George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones 5-Book Boxed Set (Song of Ice and Fire Series)
George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones 5-Book Boxed Set (Song of Ice and Fire Series): A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, and and A Dance with Dragons | George R. R. Martin
For the first time, all five novels in the epic fantasy series that inspired HBOs Game of Thrones are together in one eBook bundle. An immersive entertainment experience unlike any other, A Song of Ice and Fire has earned George R. R. Martindubbed the American Tolkien by Time magazineinternational acclaim and millions of loyal readers. Now this bundle collects the entire monumental cycle in the most convenient format available: A GAME OF THRONES A CLASH OF KINGS A STORM OF SWORDS A FEAST FOR CROWS A DANCE WITH DRAGONS One of the best series in the history of fantasy.Los Angeles Times Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off Kings Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Roberts name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn; his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon; his daughters Sansa and Arya; and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worseunnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queens brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannisterthe first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms. Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothrakiwhose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys. Long live George Martin . . . a literary dervish, enthralled by complicated characters and vivid language, and bursting with the wild vision of the very best tale tellers. The New York Times

I enjoyed these for the most part but I did find that I kept forgetting what had happened to characters who hadn't had a chapter for a while, particularly for minor characters. The fact that I had watched the TV series helped a little but I still lost a lot of people's stories. I still can't remember anything about Daenerys in Yunkai or Astapor & I love her character, so I was paying attention. The narrative does jump about a bit too much.

I should be reading this weekend, but instead I‘m binge watching some GOT‘s, and wishing the books were finished so I knew what was coming. And I finally understand why my one friend refuses to read unfinished series. 😱

I‘m still rooting for Jon though...he my “know nothing”, but he‘s always willing to listen and learn and treat everyone with compassion.

“That‘s what I do. I drink and I know things.” -Tyrion Lannister

My #LitsyPartyofOne menu consists of hot wings, cheesy ranch potatoes, and a Redd‘s Apple Ale in my favorite bookish mug. I have to represent Tyrion even if I despise the rest of House Lannister. 😂

The wights aren‘t exactly zombies per se, but they‘re close enough and I think even scarier!

“You saw the wights come swarming up the Fist, a tide of living dead men with black hands and bright blue eyes.” - Jon Snow in A Feast for Crows

Happy birthday George R. R. Martin, and it‘s like Christmas for me!!! Thank you so much @jillannjohn I love my #ASOIAF package. Max loves his squeaky toy so much I could barely get it away from him for the picture. I absolutely love everything! You even included Alice. So very thoughtful. ❤️❤️❤️
@jenniferw88

jillannjohn Oh yay! I‘m so glad you got it! I hope you like everything. I love Alice too. Have you read any of the Alice like books like Splintered or Alice or Insanity? I have a whole Alice TBR going on right now. 🤣 6y
BookNerd9906 @jillannjohn I haven‘t read them, but I‘ll check them out! 6y
BookNerd9906 @jillannjohn I #stacked Splintered. Couldn‘t find the other(s). Do you know who the author is? 6y

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked these books. Each one is quite long and I was able to read through them rather quickly. I loved each character and despised each villain, allowing me to become engulfed in the lives from another world. I would definitely recommend these books to someone who doesn't mind violence, sex and dragons ♡

I love how George Martin has the ability to make you empathize with even the most dislikable characters. And how when you first meet a character in the book, you can‘t always tell if they are going to have a big impact on the story later on or not. People often complain that it takes so long for him to write his books, but when you think of all the work that goes into them, it‘s no mystery why! Every little thing is thought out in detail!

I shot straight out of A Game Of Thrones and into A Clash Of Kings without any apprehension due to the length of these novels. I didn‘t give a shit about war strategies and the politics of war until I started reading this series, and it has made me view the two more complexly even in real, present day life. I‘m certainly hooked!

Everything that makes writing effective is employed in Martin‘s books. Diverse and complex characters, beautiful imagery and descriptions, realistic and entertaining dialogue, the pacing was fantastic and even though I had watched most of the first season before reading this book I was still enthralled with it. Shoutout to Shortbread sunbathing! ❤️🐰🐇☀️

I'm currently on a Dance with Dragons in my re-read. It's amazing how many details you miss the first go-round. What's been your favorite re-read?

Librarybelle I try to re-read Pride and Prejudice at least once a year. I'm also enjoying re reading Gone with the Wind and Outlander. 7y

After reading 400 pages of the first book, I decided I needed to buy the whole set. I watch GOT on HBO. I wish I would have read the books 📚 first. Still the books are addictive! So far they seem to follow the show.

TrishB 1-3 are pretty similar to the show..... 7y

I'm thinking of treating myself and start getting a book box subscription. I'd love some recommendations for adult subscriptions. I'm just a big kid and love all little bookish things, but I want to stay with adult fiction and not YA for the actual books.

Echo Maybe Book Riot? 7y
saresmoore I'm following on this because I've actually seen a lack for what you're describing. BookRiot's is good, I think, although a bit pricey for me. 7y
mcipher I'm with you - not a huge YA person but I'd love to try a box. 7y

TheBookAddict Book of the Month!!! Their judges choose 5 books for each month and you make your selection from those books. You can choose to skip a month if you don't like their selections. I started my subscription in September and am loving it! https://www.mybotm.com/34u453t3oemcayvi 7y
Theresa I may be becoming a book box addict. I've done Book of the Month for about 4 months & I really like it. You get to choose the book(s) you want so no surprises except maybe a trinket they throw in. I also buy the Book Riot boxes occasionally. They're nice because there's no commitment, but other than a general theme you have no idea what you'll get in the box. I recently started the Quarterly Box. I've only gotten 1 of those so far (cont...) 7y
Theresa (Cont.) but I really liked it. It was by Brit Bennet & included The Mothers. They emailed info about the author & main book for the January box & it looks really good. Finally I just signed up for Indiespensable from Powell's Books. I haven't received any of those boxes yet but, based on Litsy comments, I think it's going to be good. Check out #Indiespensable & #quarterlybox for more info. (edited) 7y
Theresa One more hashtag... Try#powellsindiespensable for a post with a link to more info about that box program & how to sign up. 7y
LauraBrook Book of the Month is wonderful, and one I'd like to subscribe to again is MyBookBox. You pick two genres (i did mystery and nonfiction) and get two books a month. Can't remember price, but it was just the books. What I really liked about them was that I was always surprised by their choices and that I hadn't heard of the picks anywhere else. And, still haven't come to think of it! I've tried others &they're fun, but I'm picky about bookish extras. 7y
Smangela I agree with @TheBookAddict and if you use they're code you get a discount. I also think there is a code of Facebook to get one month for $5 to try it out. Brand new hardback book and free shipping - I rejoined with a code they sent me for 6 months for other $59.98! I like that you can skip the months too if you aren't interested in that month's selections 7y
TheBookAddict @Smangela yeah and it's not as pricey as other subscriptions. 7y
Smangela @TheBookAddict very true. I did OwlCrate for a while and I liked it but some of the items were either impractical for me or I hadn't read the book the item was in reference too. Plus you couldn't skip a box. This one definitely works better for me :) 7y

As always (well very nearly always) the books are better than the TV series. This whole series is 'high-fantasy' at its finest, by which I mean the fantasy amateur can follow along, but the fantasy enthusiast won't get bored.
