Phew, this one is a doozy that shows some of the worst of social media. TW: miscarriage, infant death, suicide

There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this book. It's just a terrible book. Most of it was incredibly boring then when you actually got to the "thriller" parts... I would not say thrilling, I would say, extremely disgusting. Nothing about brutal infant death is thrilling to me at all. It's just disturbing. Also, the writing was just absolutely terrible. This book is just terrible people doing terrible things. I wish I could give 0 stars.

alecia3dixie *I did not put a spoiler warning on this because I think it is important to let people know that this book contains infant death before you read it* 6mo

This book was a slow read for me, I struggled to get through this one.
The ending was very shocking and could be triggering for some people.

So I‘m reading this ebook on Libby , I just started it and the reader is being introduced to the “reality “ of the Instagram Influencer. So the Instagram Mom is organizing a gigantic event- her daughter Coco‘s fourth birthday 🎂- meanwhile I‘m taking a break scrolling through Instagram - and there‘s a post about a real life Coco‘s fourth birthday party. Coincidence? Or is Coco a more common name than I thought?

CSeydel Whoa 1y
Dragon Thanks 🙏 @CSeydel it was such a weird coincidence 1y
LiteraryinPA Weird!! At least in my region that‘s not a common name at all. 1y

I was disappointed by this one. I found it to be a boring and predictable read. Although, it was interesting to see the behind the scenes of someone who makes a living through social media.

One of these days I‘ll read about a fictional Instagram influencer with millions of unknown followers and freebies because she‘s beautiful, flawed, hardworking, as well as genuinely kind and honest. This isn‘t it, the MC is nether kind nor honest, but it is a wild ride of an insta-mom cautionary tale.

An interesting story that will make you think about influencers on social media. It was unique and a very quick read. Not the best but it was okay.

I wasn‘t a fan of this book; there weren‘t any redeeming characters (except the children, poor kids) and I didn‘t really connect to the social media story line. I know this had been a past #botm choice but it just wasn‘t my kind of thriller I suppose.

Admittedly when I started this book I thought, “hmm don‘t know how original this is” but toward the end it was SO much darker than I expected. It left me feeling very creeped out. Kudos to the author.

I really wanted to like this but it was extremely boring. The first 200 pages were repetitive and the buildup was completely weak. The plot made zero sense and the characters did not pull you in. It took me weeks to get through this, and I wish I had never wasted my time. Pass on this one...

Not a life-changer, but an entertaining, easy read which has something to say about influencer culture. The “Instagram mommy” phenomenon is something I‘ve encountered over the years as I became a mother and looked to the platform for guidance, mostly style. This is an obvious exaggeration of the lifestyle but I can see how sharing too much online can have incredible consequences.

4/5. I enjoyed this one well enough, but for some reason, I had a harder time really settling into a good rhythm with the writing. Ultimately, this was a creepy insight into our social media lives that had me guessing and WTFing until the very end. The story is told through multi-POVs which really helps round out the whole plot. #botm

Was this book perfect...not really. The writing isn‘t the best. The characters are sort of awful. Yet it was so compelling, I couldn‘t stop listening...even the accents didn‘t hold me back. The depths that this book goes to expose all the things that could go wrong if you‘re a social media influencer is jaw-dropping and had me seriously hooked.

As a cautionary tale this is effective & disturbing. As a thriller it had me flipping pages to discover what would happen. All well & good but I couldn't stand the MC. I thought at least I liked the husband but he was disappointing at the end. As an aside, my Instagram is private (does that REALLY mean anything though?) & I know all my 64 (yes that's all) followers personally but this book has me thinking about deleting my online presence. 🤔😬

3/100, Oh my goodness I liked this one much more than I thought I would! The characters were not super likeable and I liked that about them. They were very human in my opinion, full of flaws and awful thoughts. And the villain of the story was pretty believable, at moments I felt sorry for them. Some of the scenes depicted were so deliciously creepy. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Traci1 I liked this one a lot too. 4y

In need of sleep but decided to stay up and finish! This book was infuriating to read - many of the characters unlikeable. Yet, I breezed through the chapters.

Emmy is an instagram mom who profits from sharing intimate details of her family life on the internet. Her role as an influencer leaves her hated by many, including a stalker. Told in alternating POVs of Emmy, her husband, and stalker, this book delves into the dark side of social media.

I found this to be an entertaining page-turner, though maybe not as "thrilling" as the genre might suggest. A well-written exploration of the dark/deceptive side of influencing, the dangers of letting a million strangers into your life, and the not-always-likeable people who desire notoriety enough to make questionable choices and do it all anyway.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #BOTM

I am so happy that I picked this book as must BOTM pick! I was enthralled from page one. Before "People Like Her" I had a rudimentary knowledge of what it means to be a social media influencer. Now, as a result of reading this, I came out learning a lot about that profession. I like that I learned something. ? My only complaint is that the main characters learned nothing from their selfish actions. Oh well. It makes it more realistic, I guess. A+

bookishcow I loved the book as well! In a way, it was an eye opener on the dark side of social media influencers. And also gave me another reason to deactivate my FB, IG & TikTok accounts. 4y
Jemgirl2014 @redlotusdesignz It really was an eye opener! I wonder how the bookstagrammers feel. I know s lot of them read it. 😬 I just have Litsy where I have my real pic as my profile. I don't have FB and my IG account is a lurker account. No profile pic and I never post anything. Still. Scary stuff. 4y
bookishcow @Jemgirl2014 totally can relate! I only kept Twitter and LinkedIn for mostly professional purposes and sharing blog posts and webcomic links. But Litsy has been a great platform in sharing book related content :) 4y

I couldn‘t put this December #BOTM down! I literally hid from our New Year‘s Eve guests to finish it! Told in three perspectives-mother, wife & Instagram influencer on the rise, Emmy, her novelist husband Dan & a shadowy third person stalking them with a vendetta. It keeps you guessing & turning pages with authentic voices (in rather unlikable characters) & a fast paced plot! A talented husband and wife writing team! Can‘t wait to see what‘s next!

Domestic thrillers aren't my favorite thing, but every now and then I'll pick one up. This one was pretty much what I expected. The characters were vile, and I was kind of rooting for them, especially Emmy, to get a comeuppance. Still, as much as I disliked almost everyone in the book, I did find it hard to put down (much like not being able to turn away from a train wreck). If you like these sorts of books, you'll probably enjoy this one.

I gave this one two stars. I don‘t think there was one character in this book that I actually liked (maybe the kid?). In my humble opinion this one just wasn‘t that suspenseful. It was more of a snapshot into the life of an ‘influencer‘. Probably my least favorite #BOTM pick in a long time.

Brrr. It's a frosty morning here in Southern Oregon.

This was my very first Book of the Month book and I really liked it!

I am normally not a thriller/suspense reader, but this story about an Instagram mom/influencer hooked me from the start.

It is told in alternating POVs between Emmy, her husband Dan, and "the bad gal."

Also interesting to learn that the book was written by a husband/wife duo.

Can't wait for my next BOTM box ?

bookishcow I love this book! Also got this from my BOTM and it didn‘t disappoint. Made me think twice about being on Instagram 😅 4y

There were a few things that ruined this experience for me. First, I'm not really sure why these people were even married to begin with. Parts of the ending also just seemed too easy or convenient and what happens in the epilogue just seems too farfetched. Lastly, there was a throw away line about periods being what makes a woman a woman and that felt transphobic. It had NOTHING to do with the plot.CW for death of a child and miscarriage

Pretty creepy bc its so relatable to our instagram world right now! Its so cool it was written by a wife and husband team. The writing was great but i felt like i got so annoyed of Emmy "Mamabare". The villain's stringing along was the best part of the book.

bookishcow I did like the message behind on social media usage. I was just really annoyed at the main character 😂 4y

I thought this book was perfection. I knew I would finish it in the bath tonight so I decided to use one of my favorite bath bombs ever to accompany it.

I thought the dual narration of Emmy and Dan was perfection. The influencer/IG angle was so expertly done that having a mystery thrown in the mix was just an added bonus. If all thrillers were written this well, I would read them nonstop. #bathandbook
