I listened to this one on audio. I enjoyed the story while I was in it, but I was not thrilled with the ending. It just did not seem as clever as the rest of the story. I was disappointed.

This was a fun read but a little too surface-level to be anything more. The characters are interesting but not as clearly delineated as they might have been, and there are some red-herring-y bits (characters and events) that kind of irritate me. The plot is fun, though, I love that it's set in DC, and the commentary about psychopathy is interesting if unsubtle. This was a decent diversion that I suspect I'll forget quickly.

A bit of a long drag for a thriller, but a fascinating glimpse into psychopathy and emotive expression.

A weakish sideways thumb from me. It was entertaining but too drawn out for me, given its thriller-like premise. A DC university has a special program for psychopaths, to help them assimilate better and control their impulses. What could possibly go wrong?

#SummerEndReadathon #RushAThon

My pick for September‘s #TitlesAndTunes #DramaQueen
I quite enjoyed this book—it was fast-paced & entertaining with lots of twists & turns. A psychopath going after psychopath is students in a secret college program was a fun premise. I did figure out the whodunnit, but it still kept me guessing. Yes, Chloe, the MC is a psychopath (& a drama queen) but you can‘t help rooting for her (or maybe that‘s just me🤪)!!

#IdiomInsight #LookB4ULeap

#LookBeforeYouLeap is a proverb that means one should consider all the consequences or all the dangers involved in a course of action before one acts or commits to something.

In my current read for #TitlesAndTunes Chloe is diagnosed as a psychopath which also means she has lack of impulse control—I‘m about a third of the way into the book & several times already she hasn‘t looked before she leaped! 👀

I struggled for a #TitlesAndTunes pick for September‘s #DramaQueen prompt but finally settled on this one where the MC is described as:

“It would be easy to underestimate Chloe Sevre… She‘s a freshman honor student, a legging-wearing hot girl next door, who also happens to be a psychopath. She spends her time on yogalates, frat parties and plotting to kill Will Bachman, a childhood friend who grievously wronged her.”

I figure a psychopath ⬇️

DebinHawaii …needs to act like they have feelings & they bring their own drama. OK, this book has been on my Kindle TBR for a while now & I want to read it, so just go with me here! 🤷🏻‍♀️ For the song to pairing I had to go with the catchy Sweet But Psycho by Ava Max. (edited) 8mo
BarbaraBB Sounds like a book perfectly fitting the prompt! I don‘t know the song but it‘s title is great 👍🏽 8mo

This was a fun new adult thriller about a group of psychopaths in a university study. Each one of our main characters has a secret, and then the murder begin. They hesitantly team up to solve the mystery. Though not perfect, there are definitely some loose threads at the end, it was still a fun quick read. 3.5⭐️

Bk1 of August is done! I started this during the #20in4 #readathon but put it down till today. I enjoyed this debut thriller, the plot was very smart but sometimes the writing was a bit meh. I mean, there‘s more adjectives than yell, scream etc! It reminded me a bit of They Never Learn by Layne Fargo but that book had tighter writing & more suspense. Still, not a bad first effort. #BookspinBingo #Pageathon #CloakDaggerChal

This is 3 out of 4 Sweet Reads books that have just been meh to me. I loved the premise. A group of students diagnosed as psychopaths, taking part in a study in lieu of tuition, and told from the POV of some of those psychopaths. And while some of the psychopaths ‘charmed‘ me, it was overall a group of unlikeable characters, with a dragged out storyline, to a lacklustre ‘twist‘. I‘m needing a good thriller! 😭

Never Saw Me Coming ticks a lot of my niche interest boxes- campus novels, crime novels, psychopaths, unreliable narrators. It‘s real strength is the use of psychopathic characters not just as a narrator, but also as vessels who supply the already unreliable narrator with all the information in this story. Literally nothing can be trusted in this mystery. It makes for really compelling reading.

Here‘s my #lastfirst, @BookNAround !

I thought I could squeeze in another vintage children‘s book before midnight so I opted for Primrose Day, a 1942 story of a little British girl sent to America during WW2. Thank you to @rubyslippersreads for this lovely gift!

My first book of the year will be the tagged title: a thriller about a college-aged group of psychopaths, recruited to take part in a psychological experiment. Because… why not? 😆

So this was fun!
The story centers around college students who are subjects in a study of psychopaths. The main character is there seeking revenge of her own when strange murders start occurring, and it becomes evident that someone is killing students in the study. Who would want to target a group of psychopaths? …well, a few people have solid motives… including others in the study. Even as they become closer, it‘s unclear who can be trusted.

I don‘t think I‘ve read a thriller before that was centered around a group of psychopaths - especially not when they‘re the prey in the story. (Of course, some are also predators themselves!) The author‘s background in psychology gave this credibility, but the writing felt a bit YA. Although I had hoped for more from this, the original plot and interesting characters made it a fun read. 🎧

Chloe has been recruited to attend her college to be part of a study about psychopaths. And, she just happens to be plotting to kill someone. Because of this somewhat absurd premise, I struggled to get into this initially, but what I liked about it is that when things start getting hairy, Chloe responds in true psychopath fashion, which was fun. A soft pick for me.

LeahBergen I bought this one recently to read with a friend. 😊 2y

3¾⭐
Probably not the most logical premise in a book...but it was compelling. It was sort of an unconventional psychological thriller with some morally gray (heavy on the gray) characters who I found intriguing and I even ended up liking them...in a curiously evil way. It was a little slow at times because it delves into the thought processes of a psychopath quite a bit...so if you‘re looking for lots of action, you're not going to find it here.

My #girlybookclub book for October - not one I‘d have picked up on my own and while it was fine, the cast of characters goes beyond unlikeable and I found it to be a little too much of a reach.

Got through most of this during #OutstandingOctober but not quite all so I ended with 3.9/4 books finished.

I‘ve been reading a lot of mystery/thrillers lately (it has overtaken historical fiction as my current favourite genre), but many of them blend together a while after I finished. What I liked about this one is it‘s a bit different with multiple psychopaths running around. Cont in comments...

LibraryCin The main viewpoint is Chloe‘s, but Andre‘s POV is followed, as well as a few others as the story goes on. I didn‘t quite believe that someone would be able to fake their way in to the program with someone who has studied psychopaths for decades, but I put that aside to “enjoy” the story. 2y

The premise of this book sounded so interesting & I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. By the time I had finished chapter one, I knew it wasn't for me.
I am torn between really disliking the book but being invested in the story. And I'm conflicted about rating it. I think I give it three stars, though I am not entirely sure why.

The build up was great but the payoff was mediocre to me. We had lots of twist and turns and I did have a hard time guessing who the culprit was. I can‘t explain without a bunch of spoilers.

On the bright side another bingo square has been completed. Just had a minor freak out because it‘s the 21st and there‘s no way I‘d finish as many books as I have left but then I remembered I don‘t have to black out the board. 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️😂🤣😂

A group of diagnosed psychopaths are selected to participate in a study of their disorder with their college tuition as compensation. Each should not know who the others are, but do psychopaths follow the rules? When murders on campus appear to be targeting them, they begin to rely on each other to find the culprit and stay alive. Can psychopaths really trust each other? Great premise!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a very dark and twisted tale. The plot was fairly slow but built steadily once I got into the story. The ending was well done and tied the story off. I had figured out who was behind the killings but I liked that little twist as pointed out by Chloe to the cop at the end. The writing is detailed if a little graphic at times. Her plan to kill Will does get lost a little in the course of the other murders though. #Netgalley 4*
