⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fun little book about a possession of a friend in suburbia.

This was a gift from my daughter. It was a good chick lit read. One of those books that good to read between heavier more serious books.
One book down for #JoyousJanuary.

Fun! But by the cover I was expecting a zombie? 😂
Think your classic suburban moms meets Hendrix‘s My Best Friends Exorcism 😂

It‘s been a really sucky two weeks snd I didn‘t really get to post. I sent out my #FFFS swap and received mine. I forgot to take pics so here‘s one of Hades. His face says how I feel.
Suburban Hell by Maureen Kilmer was not at all what I was expecting and in the very best way. I thought this was going to be a fluffy brain candy read that would quickly be forgotten. Instead, I found a page turning, unputdonwnable, in one sitting read. The characters were well rounded, believable and relatable and the story creepy and intriguing. Currently tied for first place in my favorite reads so far this year.
This was good enough. I needed a pallet cleanser, and it did the job. I think I set it up for failure when I expected Grady Hendrix Southern Book Club‘s Guide level humor, and that wasn‘t here. But that‘s awfully high expectations, so maybe that‘s not to be found in a non-Grady book. And that‘s ok. ⭐️⭐️⭐️PS: I‘ll never look at my Roomba the same 😂
Funny, gruesome, and remarkably accessible. A perfect summer read.
Most of this is a fun, silly, horror-lite story of a dark force arising in a suburb, which I enjoyed. But I was really bothered by the insidious thread through the book of judging women‘s bodies and choices. It‘s layered in there as though this is a perfectly normal and acceptable way to look at women, and that‘s so bad. I just can‘t give this book a pick for that reason.
Summer in the suburbs can be hell, especially when a member of your #MomSquad is possessed by a demon. This book was really fun, audio was fab- thanks @Bookzombie for putting this on my #ReadersRadar
Four suburban moms unknowingly release an evil presence while attempting to build a she-shed in one of their backyards. Even though I thought this was pretty predictable I enjoyed it and it probably would have been even better on audio. I laughed a good bit. It‘s definitely horror-lite. It would probably make a fun movie. #booked2023 #featuringneighbors
Wow, that was just as much fun as I hoped it would be. My Best Friend's Exorcism meets The Southern Bookclub's Guide to Slaying Vampires, with the slogan: moms get s*** done! A great exploration of female friendship and modern motherhood.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
The moment u realize your library hold, that was SEVERAL WEEKS OUT, is somehow available NOW!!! 🎉
This book was super cute. I really enjoyed the slight thriller/friendship. It reminded me heavily of my best friends exorcism but better and with adults. 4/5
This book was so much fun! Slightly dissatisfied suburban moms try building a she shed in one of their backyards and unwittingly release evil. While I loved the tongue-and-cheek humor and comic look at suburban life I especially enjoyed the honest friendships between the main women and the relatable issues each of them are going through in their personal lives. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 #scarathlon2022 #teamslaughter
This was a hoot! A group of bored housewives christen their backyard shack and unleash an evil entity. They soon find the true meaning of 'suburban hell' as Buffy meets Desperate Housewives in this horror comedy.
The plot was pretty straight forward lite horror but bonus points for the tongue in cheek humor, esp with the character Jess.
Such a fun read! I loved reading this book, it was such a taste of fresh air. A great book to calm down to, even if you don't like horror - you'll like the author's quick wit and usual change of scenery. Trigger warning for light gore, violence, and gaslighting. As you may have gathered, this story doesn‘t take itself too seriously, although it does touch upon some serious things. I really liked the focus on friendship and the importance of connection, as well as Amy‘s backstory pertaining to her sister, who‘d been possessed by a different kind of demon. Amy‘s past properly explained her devotion to this current danger, even more so than her dedication to her friendship with Liz.
