a modern woman will inhabit forty rooms in her lifetime.For our protagonist, the much-loved child of a late marriage,the first rooms she is aware of as she nears the age of five are those that make up her family‘s Moscow apartment. We follow her as she leaves home to study in America, and slowly discovers sexual happiness and love. But her hunger for adventure and her longing to be a great poet conspire to kill the affair.

These are the best 8 books I've read this year - though not all are from 2018. I can't say for sure which was my top pick... all we're excellent reads!!!

Lovely, well-written, relatable, and poignant. This book is very much like many of the dialogues I have with myself as a woman and as an artist. Quietly beautiful and masterfully crafted - this is easily one of the best books I've read this year.

I'd take this over a tropical beach any day. Loving this book!!!

Power‘s out so I am going old school with an actual paper book today

I exaggerate - my tablet still works fine and I have LTE and the power is estimated to be back on in another 2 hours but the kids are all excited and have their torch lights ready and have been badgering me to get the candles out

Beef rendang, stirfried garlicky spinach and some panko pork chops accompany this absolute beauty of a book .

Reading a passage like this makes me sigh, sit back, and just luxuriate in the absolute joy of reading a book.

I‘m about halfway through and this book is amazing. It‘s really bringing home so much of the melancholy I‘ve been feeling of late. I don‘t have words to express myself really... I‘m going to need to own a copy. I‘ve had so much time to myself to read lately and it‘s been lovely but it doesn‘t satiate the desire to keep reading and to stay detached from my own wold... #seatosea @BookishTrish @FantasyChick @Andrea4

It was a crazy busy day of errands and running around, but I did pick up a couple of little things for myself. I‘ve been looking for a pouch for my daytimer and pens to go in my purse, and I couldn‘t resist the chocolate or a new ‘gratitude blend‘ for my diffuser. Now it‘s time to curl up and enjoy. 😌

Happy 2018 Littens!!! Finally found time for my #decemberwrapup. Not bad considering what a busy month December was. 10 books read: 3ARCs (which I'm way behind on), something from my TBR I've been meaning to read for a long time and the #LMPBC #seatosea pick. Not sure what my top pick would be, either the tagged book or Breaking Free. Now time to get some well needed cleaning done 😊

Well ladies, after reading the first couple chapters I really didn't think I'd like this book...but it's brilliant! I did feel a little depressed when I finished though. @BookishTrish how about you? Im not going to put much into a review here because I don't want to give anything away, but it's really a thinker! Can't wait to hear everyone's thoughts.

I'm not one to make a #TBR because I never follow it. It seems like work to plan a book an I enjoy it less. However, The tagged book is my #LMPBC #seatosea book for the month. The other two, I'm hoping I'll try and read this month, plus the next ACOTAR book and a couple #ARCS.

(She starts) #BackintheUSSR This book is about a woman who was raised in Moscow and comes to the U.S. in hopes of becoming a poet. What happens is not quite what she expects. Every decision she makes is a compromise of herself. The author, Olga, is a poet and takes several artistic liberties in this book. There are paragraphs that are run-on sentences and some events that happen have you questioning what's real. I loved it. #readslikeadream.

So, my book club is meeting and its one of my very favorite things. BUT . . . I haven't read the book. It's reasonably common that someone doesn't finish, but it's very rare that anyone comes without reading at all. Should I stay or should I go?!

Of course, I'll probably abandon this by the end of the day! 😝 Reading these will check off a library book, non-fiction read, book club selection, reading down my netgalley pile and an audiobook.

August ended up being something of a breakthrough in terms of getting back into a good reading rhythm. It was also one of those months where I seemed to find myself in everything I read. I learned so, so much... #somethingforsept #septphotochallenge

Thanks to #Dundurn for sending the book bag, I've filled it to bring to book club tonight!

From my library trip to grab books for book club on Thursday I grabbed this little stack. I can't remember exactly the article I read where the suggestion for Forty Rooms came from, but it sounded pretty interesting! We'll see which one the group picks this month!

I read this for book club. I like the premise of the forty rooms, the various spaces a person will inhabit in their lifetime physically and spiritually, but as the book went along I liked the main character less and less. She didn't know who she was, ever, so I didn't either.

Wow. It took me a few chapters to get into this, but once I did, it just got better and better. This book should end up on some award short lists. I love books that are unusual (but not weird) in structure. You might need to be over 35 or 40--and maybe a parent or caregiver?--to relate. Wow.
