#20Series20Days Day 12: Junie B Jones

Junie B Jones was my son's favorite series when he was in elementary school. He loved how she said the quiet things out loud and did the things he knew he shouldn't do himself but wondered what would happen if he might. Well, that's why I loved her anyway. In any case reading these together with him gave me memories no author can write, for which the series will always be a favorite.

Reading this RF novel gave me so much nostalgia because I used to read the series! It‘s about a Junie B. Jones, a kindergartner who doesn‘t want to ride the school bus the first day! This book should be used for IR. One UDL and EL strategy is 3.1, activate or supply background knowledge, and 16, integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities. The link for extension activities is here: www.juniebjones.com/activities #UCFLAE3414SP20

SequoiaC123 Before they read, I would activate prior knowledge by having them share their first day of school stories along with the emotions they felt to help them make the connection to the text. 4y
carolinem My favorite series of books ever! 4y
hadassajl Junie B. Jones is a classic! Love your picture. 4y
DrSpalding More detail needed regarding your website resource. Junie B is a fantastic character to have students study and learn more about the narrative element of characterization. She is smart, precocious, loud, outspoken… This series can be an independent read or you may choose to read them aloud after lunch or specials. I did this with first graders and they loved it!❤️📚 4y

Hello I‘m Freddie and I am reading Junie B Jones “and the stupid smelly Bus” My favorite color is purple and excited to be in the book club

LibrarianRyan I love this book, and have actually been on the Stupid Smelly buss. It made a stop at the bookstore across the street from my apartment. It was cool (even if at the time I had no idea what it was (and I thought the bookstore was off track betting). 4y
CodyFordPEDS Hi Freddie! You definitely got me interested in reading this book. I definitely want to know why the bus is smelly and I‘m excited you are in book club as well! @NCHPedsReads #FebPedsReads 4y

I would use this book in my future classroom because children would engage with the sassy character that is their own age, and going through struggles that they may relate to also.

This book was a great Realistic Fiction for younger ages. This is because it portrays real-life events of today's children such as traveling on the bus, first days of school, and SASS. Also, the book helps children enlarge their personal points of view by characters in the book guiding Junie B to reason.

Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus is a RF novel written by Barbara Park and illustrated by Denise Brunkus. This novel is the first of the Junie B. Jones series and it tells the story about a kindergarten girl who is terrified to take the school bus to and from school. Junie B. does everything to avoid taking the bus, but eventually she learns to keep an open mind about it. This book would be perfect for a LC or PR, (cont.) #ucflae3414su19

Macker11 I never got into Junie B Jones! I really would like to read it, so if my students like it I can relate. 5y
MeganKlein especially for the beginning of the school year! UDL strategy 8.3 and EL strategy 2 align perfectly with this text and the resource provided. http://juniebjones.com/media/printables/teachers/JBJ_Rebrand_SmellyBus_EG_WEB.pd... This lesson plan promotes student interaction and building a positive classroom community. Whether it‘s kindergarten students or just a whole new class at the beginning of the school year, students will definitely be (cont.) 5y
MeganKlein able to connect to a lot of the feelings and experiences Junie B. goes through in this book. 5y
MeganKlein @Macker11 You should definitely try reading them! They‘re super quick reads and they‘re kind of funny lol! My little sister used to love this series when she was in first grade, so I would definitely give them a try to see why students love these books :) 5y
galacticbees I ready every single one of these when I was in elementary school. This series is a great way to introduce kids to reading as it really gets them excited for every new book they get to experience. This one is specifically great because it is related to school! 5y

Junie B. Jones is written but Barbara Park and illustrated by Denis Brunei‘s. Junie B. Jones has just started kindergarten and to say she doesn‘t like the bus would be an understatement. This book is an RF chapter book. I think this book would be a good choice for students grades 1-3 in a LC setting . #Lae3414sp19

LaGasseSam1996 https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/junie-b-jones-.... Scholastic has a lesson plan where students have to compare and contrast their behavior against Junie B.‘s. With that lesson plan in mind I think UDL 7.1 is perfect because it makes students look at their behavior compared to this sassy kindergartener. 5y

I‘ve only read 54 out of my goal of 80 “grownup” books this year, but I‘m incredibly proud that I‘ve read over 20 chapter books with my four year old since June. We‘ve enjoyed Roald Dahl and My Father‘s Dragon, but the family favorite this far is the Junie B. Jones series.

A 90s version of Ramona, Junie B. is starting kindergarten and is scared to ride the bus. She tries to avoid it at all costs. I found this book much less endearing than the Ramona books and the children meaner than necessary. Meh. Won‘t be continuing with this series.

MelissaSue81 Junie B is definitely no ramona, but both my girls adored this series. My youngest read and reread some of the books. She thought they were hilarious. She‘s a lot like Junie B. 6y

Junie B Jones by Barbara Park is a realistic fiction series about a young girl (Junie) going through different stages in her life that you get to be a part of. The challenges and strides that this character experiences make for a great coming of age series to young readers. This series has won the New York Times best seller award and would be best used for independent readings in a classroom or literature circles.

NicoleCumbo A UDL strategy that would work well with this book is 7.2 (optimize relevance, value, and authenticity) and a EL strategy to go along with this novel is strategy 2 (promote cooperation). Http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/lesson-plans/teaching-content/junie-b-jones-lesson-plan/ takes you to an amazing lesson plan to go along with this book for grades 1-5. #ucflae3414sp18 6y

Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus is a RF novel about her first day of kindergarten. It is a funny and light hearted book about the struggles she has throughout the day.She is nervous for her first day because she doesn‘t know anyone and doesn‘t want to take the stupid smelly bus. She rides the bus to school, but does everything she can to avoid riding home on it. Throughout the day she makes some new friends and gets into a little trouble.

This is a funny novel about Junie B Jones going to Kindergarten and is terrified to ride the stinky bus with a bunch of meanies. When it‘s time for her to go home after her first day of Kindergarten she decides not to take the bus. Being Junie B Jones, she is very mischievous. This is a book I would use as IR since it‘s an easy read and it‘s RF. UDL 3.1 activate or supply prior knowledge and EL 3 encourage positive self talk. This is good

brittanyg because she wouldn‘t have been so scared to get on the bus in the first place. https://www.superteacherworksheets.com/m/?s=junie-b-jones.html this link breaks down each chapter in the book and gives them a different task for each one. Also shows options for LC! #UCFLAE3414F17 6y

Guess what? This RF, New York Times Bestseller is great for IR or GR for grades k-5. 'Cause it's an easy read for older students and a great transitional chapter book for younger students. That's why! In Junie B.'s first adventure she hates the bus, experiences her first day of kindergarten, and causes quite a commotion at the end of the school day. Junie's outlook on life is humorous and fun for all ages!

CaseyL http://juniebjones.com/teachers/stupid-smelly-bus/ this website provides activities and pre reading discussions. UDL 7.3, minimize threats and distractions can be used in the activity on this website where the K teacher takes students on a tour of the school to ease their minds about the new environment. EL 11, place language in a meaningful context can be used to help students become familiar with new terms at school such as "media center". 7y

Sarahr875 @Frecks-Booklover4life Junie B is in kindergarten and first grade during most of the series, so even though it's harder for those little ones to read it, they are fun books to read with kids that age because "Junie B Jones gets me" haha I'd say they're more of a third grade reading level, but smaller kids will love them too. 8y
