Keeping Track
Keeping Track: Success in Track and Field | Robert C. Smith
28 posts
The man veteran Notre Dame Head Track Coach Joe Piane calls "The Gentleman Coach" shares his insights into how to succeed at track and field and cross country as an athlete and as a coach. Bob Smith has experienced track as a Central High School and University of Notre Dame athlete, then as Riley High School coach and later as Notre Dame assistant coach. From sports washout to the Olympic Trials, from student to teacher and coach, his story shows the triumph of hope and perseverance. The book is more than a memoir. It covers every aspect of the sport from the tribulations of a beginning runner to the insights of a master coach. Many area track athletes and coaches are mentioned and/or pictured in the book. The appendices give statistics for years of area and regional competitions. Joe Piane, awardwinning head track coach at the University of Notre Dame for over 30 years, has written the foreword, giving his views of track as a sport and its potential to change lives, encourage growth, and prepare a person to succeed in life.

TEAR-JERKER :: That means I'm going to have to break out "Marley and Me" because I can't think of any other book on hand that will bring out the tears. That one fits the bill, right?

• Decided to include #shortstories in my #Goodreads #readingchallenge and it bumped my total right on up there. My #goal is to read a minimum of 25 short stories this year and I've knocked out 3 so far. I'll need to read at least 2 a month to make it. It makes sense to count them towards my goal if they're in the Goodreads database. Do you include short stories in your total? •

Butterfinger You and I are kindred spirits. I am doing #NWC, #ReadHarder20 #Booked2020 #ChildrensClassicRead2020 #ReadingEurope2020 #classicschallenge2020 #PopSugar20 #mandmchallenge2020 #ReadwithMrBook USReads and CenturyReads

My favorite thing to do is find several prompts of different challenges for each challenge.

Yoshi-and-a-book How do you sign up for these or find them? 3w
Readage @Yoshi-and-a-book All the challenges here are floating around on Litsy. They all have their own hashtags and can be located in the search function via hashtag. You don't have to sign up for most of these, you just find one you'd like to try and join in. Find the original post, take a screenshot and post on your profile. The only ones I "signed up" for are the #LitsyAtoZ and #NWC #NovelWatchingCrew (which I also found on Litsy and joined the group) 3w

• Surprisingly, I reached my monthly #Bookly goal; in 3 years, I've done it maybe 4 times. Seems I'm semi-serious about knocking out my #readinggoals this year 💪💪 Now the challenge lies in maintaining the momentum. Nothing like having a goal -- however small -- and reaching it •

lele1432 I have not seen this one before! Is this your own bingo card? Not that I need another reading challenge lol, but I love these prompts!! 1mo
TheAromaofBooks @lele1432 I think it's the one from bookishfirst. I've seen this one around a lot, although I have a different first that I think may be newer since it references 2020. I will tag you on the blank copy if I find it!! 1mo
Readage @lele1432 It's not mine; I've been looking for the original post on Litsy and can't find it. This is from another user's profile with one space marked out before I copied it for my use. I like the prompts as well and hope I can find the monthly bingo boards for the rest of the year!! 🤞 1mo

Each year, I set a few reading goals, but two are always the same: to read 200 books, with 100 of them being new to me. I manage the first goal fairly regularly; I have never achieved the second. I take a lot of comfort in re-reading favorites, which this year totally proved! In 2020, I'll keep striving for the elusive "New 100", and I want to read more works in translation and more authors of color. Here's to a new year of books! #yearinreview

Do you keep track when someone recommends a book, or you see a review for a book that looks good ? When you Stack it,do you make a note elsewhere about WHO was the one who mentioned the book, so you can thank them later ? And when you receive a book as a gift, do you note inside who sent it to you so you can thank them after reading it ?
The cards above are really neat. They are printable here : https://organized31.com/library-cards-printable/

Laura317 @Kaye I don‘t, but I should! I‘ll print off some of these and start today. Thanks for the link! 2y

Bookishthoughts Love it! 2y
AmyG I keep track of books on Litsy. I also have the notebook you gave me when I won a contest...and I write all the books I recieve from people. 2y
Kaye I‘m thinking I‘ll just print off some of these and stick one in the book , sorta as a reminder of where I got it and if it was recommended by someone in here. I oftentimes don‘t read a book immediately , and by the time I do read it, I can‘t remember who mentioned it in here. Maybe these will help. 2y
Kdgordon88 I do keep a list going besides stacking on Litsy. What a great idea to add the litten‘s name for future reference. 2y
BookishMe Thanks for sharing this link... Will be great to include in my bookish journal which needs to be updated ;D 2y
starlight97 Now that I think about it, looks helpful! 2y
Purrfectpages I stack things on Litsy all the time, but for TBR purposes I typically work off of Goodreads. 2y
Kaye Yea, I think different people use different ideas. I‘ve just remembered different book suggestions mentioned in here, but forgotten who originally posted them. I was trying to think of a way to make a note of it so I could tag them after I read it. @Purrfectpages 2y

My reading journal had an intense week 😂 I've started recording all the books I buy and the costs. This week was an impressive 24 new books at a total of $181.

SkeletonKey That's a really good idea. I should be doing that since I know I spend way too much. 2y
tricours @SkeletonKey I'm only 3 weeks in but I like it a lot! It's also fun to just have the statistics. 2y
