Pickpick

I am so glad I finally picked up this one. The final #Manawake novel offers a fascinating dive into #Canadian history and introduces a bunch of fantastic characters. We all need a Christie, Jules, Ella and Pique in our lives and a Morag of course. Narrator of this great book and what a woman! She is tough and authentic and a real literary heroine if you ask me.

BarbaraBB @TrishB All her books are great I think! 2y
squirrelbrain Love the pic! I‘ve only read one by this author and I should really read more! 2y
batsy Great review! Your last sentence—I absolutely agree. Morag's a tough, prickly character and I first read this about 20 years ago and I've never forgotten her. 2y
vivastory Fantastic review. The read through of Laurence's books remains one of my favorite buddy reads. I loved seeing all of the connections from previous books in this one. 2y
LeahBergen Wonderful review! And just what @vivastory said: this was such a great series to read together. 🥰 2y
Librarybelle Great review! 2y
Leftcoastzen Love the photo , I need to read her ! But I say that about so many authors. 2y

Taylor Jenkins Reid can form a compelling sentence and string them together to keep you reading. This is only the second book of hers I‘ve read and once I started I did want to go along on the journey. It was a pleasant read while keeping an eye on the Super Bowl.

Mehso-so

It‘s an apocalyptic ‘groundhog day‘ meets ‘endless sunshine of the spotless mind‘ that focuses on a friendship between 30-somethings Kate and Bertie. As a world ravaged by climate disaster and terrorism surrounds them, they take a trip to Paris before Kate leaves their hometown for a new job. As tensions arise, the time-loopy stuff commences, and things definitely take a turn. A great premise and writing, but that ending, took a pick to a so-so!

Mehso-so

The first two books were the best. The third had pacing issues which became catastrophic in this one. It was going along just fine, and then it was just…over. The final 20 pages should have been about 50. The clowns were less creepy than I expected (good, I loathe clowns) and the Smiling Man was too (not good, he‘s the villain!). #52Books #meanttoreadlastyear

Librarybelle Somehow I missed that Katherine Arden was writing thriller stories! 2y
ravenlee @Librarybelle maybe it slipped under your radar because it‘s middle grade? I found the first accidentally, not realizing it was going to be a series. Then I had to wait for each one, then reread because I‘d forgotten everything! Luckily they‘re short. 2y
Bluebird Eek! The cover is terrifying! 2y

This books was SOO slow. And frustrating. And annoying. I can say without a doubt, I will never revisit this series again. But I am glad to have some semblance of a resolution.

And thank god for Gallowglass. He‘s the only character I could tolerate by the end.

Amiable I couldn‘t even make it past the first book. 😖 3y
