Third reread. Still my favourite book. The one that got me out of a decade long reading slump, before I'd read any other Discworld books. Having now read all of them, and reread all the City Watch books, I'm overjoyed that it lives up to my memory. Vimes remains a character who you regularly see thoughtfully consider the challenge to his own assumptions and then do better as a result. Pratchett's writing in his voice is fully developed. 1/?
Having just survived the latest at work, I am in thundering agreement. 😫
I picked this up (finally) yesterday, and it gave me so much serotonin while also hitting me with the most profound sorrow.
"Tact was a thing that people did to make their words behave. Tact kept other people from feeling bad because of the things you said."
Enjoying some reading and music between loads of laundry.
I've had this on my TBR for a really long time so I'm glad to finally have read it!
I always liked the movie but felt like there was something missing from it and so I was hoping that the book would give me something more but oddly enough the book read even choppier, if you can believe it.
Dialogue felt stilted at different moments, scenes were awkward in a way that weren't in the film but all in all a solid read that reminded me of why I love it
1. I‘m rereading THE WITNESS FOR THE DEAD, and it‘s exactly what I need in this moment.
2. It‘s one of my opera books (love an opera book), and I always read this particular opera as a reference to the one in THE RELUCTANT HEIRESS by Eva Ibbotson—with the key difference that this opera, while divisive, WORKS, and the one in TRH is… not good.
3. Yessss to opera that seeks to do new and different things!
This was an adorable fantasy novella. A cosy fantasy written well before it became a trend. T. Kingfisher really never disappoints. 5⭐️
#doublespin pick done!
I absolutely adored this magical book following two indentured young men as they try to find clever ways to circumnavigate their magically fueled contracts of indenture. Between the shady Untermarkt where supernatural beings buy and sell things like luck, dreams, and destiny, the delightful characters, the bells, LGBTQIA+ rep, the twisty plot, and vivid descriptions, I don‘t know what I loved most! This might be my top 2024 book. #Magic #LGBTQIA
What a great fantasy novel, cool graphics and awesome characters!
