I didn't read much nonfiction in 2024, and what I did read want the sort of thing you'd say "reads like a novel." But Leah Orr's study of turn-of-18th-C. fiction affects how I think about many of the other books I've read. "Novel Ventures" is easily one of my most thought-provoking reads of 2024, so it's my pick for September #12Booksof2024

2024 was a challenge year. Most of my readings were after March. Reading was a real tool used to manage and cope with my reality. It was so therapeutic that maybe that‘s it is why I am so motivated to read more books this year🙌But I establish realistic reading goals, 52 books to finish by the end of the year, at least one book per week. If I can read more, fine, but it‘s a realistic goal to me. 📚😌❤️❤️❤️

DogMomIrene Way to go in 2024! And great goal for the year ahead! 3w
Avanders 🥳🥳 Congrats!! And I‘m the same both in terms of how I sometimes use reading and in terms of setting goals! For me, I thought 3 per month was realistic… if I am blowing it out of the water mid-year, I may reconsider. 😏 3w
Gissy @Avanders Yes, sometimes how many books we read depends on our life style and duties, we plan, life can change our plans. I don‘t know how you manage it, with your jobs position and a child, it have to be quite a challenge and yes, it would be a therapeutic time for yourself when you can do it. It feels so good😃 3w

I achieved my goal today on Goodreads for 2024. I think I'll go for 112 for 2025. I seem to like those Chunksters. Lol, I don't have a particular book I am looking forward to as I'm a mood reader. Right now, I'm getting tired of the Christmas books. So, I'll have to go to my beloved series I've started. Lol, it will be a surprise what I pick next. @TheSpineView #TwoforTuesday

TheSpineView I agree on the Christmas books! Thanks for playing and Happy New Year! 3w

repost for @TheAromaofBooks:

Hey friends!! So I've been looking at my life and my upcoming schedule, and I am going to pause #RandomClassics definitely for January, and maybe longer, kind of depending. I still have a huge list of classics I would like to read, and I have really enjoyed reading these with you all, but for now I need to skip a month!! I'll let everyone know when I am ready to pick back up again!!

TheAromaofBooks Thank you for reposting!! 1mo

Pickpick

(2017) Author Orr (UL-Lafayette) read some 500 books published 1690-1720, and reports that Restoration readers read a wider variety of texts than you might think, and with different purposes and expectations than 21st century readers. This was a rewarding read for me: Orr's discussions of the economics of early-18th-C. publishing, and of contemporary literary tastes, provide valuable context for my own reading from the era.

A Modern Library Giant. A book I couldn‘t resist at Goodwill even though I have too many books! My bone to pick is in the subtitle , by the “men “ who made it. No women here , expected in the time frame. I‘m sure I will still like it 😁
