(2017) Author Orr (UL-Lafayette) read some 500 books published 1690-1720, and reports that Restoration readers read a wider variety of texts than you might think, and with different purposes and expectations than 21st century readers. This was a rewarding read for me: Orr's discussions of the economics of early-18th-C. publishing, and of contemporary literary tastes, provide valuable context for my own reading from the era.

A Modern Library Giant. A book I couldn‘t resist at Goodwill even though I have too many books! My bone to pick is in the subtitle , by the “men “ who made it. No women here , expected in the time frame. I‘m sure I will still like it 😁

#LitsyLoveBingo @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Read4life @julieclair @TieDyeDude My favorite reading spot is outside when its not too hot, in the shade under my gazebo and I can see my fairy garden 😀

I say this every year… but I‘m going to read my physical TBR!!! I got this idea from a friend who saw it on TikTok.. I am attempting to wrap all my books and will read them randomly by number. Hoping to also do some #bookspinbingo boards to help with this. I am truly going to make an effort not to buy ANY books until I read them all!! Not pictured… about 150 more books to wrap 😂 Wish me luck on this likely yearlong (at least) journey.

Texreader Fun!! Enjoy! 4mo

I enjoyed delving back into the world of literary criticism, reading and annotating this book, but I think my enjoyment was probably hampered by not being familiar with Smiley‘s books (which she references A LOT) and the inclusion of a sizable number of rather obscure novels. Smiley had a lot of insightful things to say about the art of novel writing & reading, but I did skim a lot in sections about books I didn‘t have personal experience with.

Well, while it‘s still snowing at home, I‘ve found a couple nice, warm, sunny spots to read while on a work trip further south in Alaska, and I am loving soaking up the vitamin D. I had a yummy mocha earlier and now sipping on a strawberry basil smash canned cocktail. Wishing I had packed sunglasses today!

This book is not present here (I made a suggestion for it...) it's Pallide Streghe d'Autunno by Nicola Lombardi. A shorter, older version of the story has been published in English.
It's quite an interesting horror short story which recalls the movie Blaire Witch Project, and it kept me hooked - something not simple, as I'm finding it so hard to get back into reading as I used to! I really enjoyed Lombardi's style too. 5/5
