This beautifully written novel entranced me from page one. Mason writes such a unique novel, focusing on a body of land and its inhabitants over centuries. Telling the story through various mediums - prose, diary, poem, letter, song - really made this so riveting and lyrical. The tie in with everyone too, the little nuggets thrown in over the years, just added perfectly to the story. I am so glad I read this! #52BookClub24 #AtLeastFourDifferentPOV

Hooked_on_books I was put off by the hype for this one and didn‘t immediately read it when it came out. Then I did and I‘m so glad I did! It‘s so good! 3w
Librarybelle @Hooked_on_books I agree about the hype and not necessarily wanting to read something that everyone else is buzzing about - I‘ve yet to read Where the Crawdads Sing! 3w

This was a fun romance with layers of humor & danger, not to mention some heavy topics. I liked Cohen‘s weaving of Austen novels into the story. There were times Vicky drove me a little crazy, but given the situation she faced from her family - having to #BiteTheBullet and marry - I‘ll give her a little leeway. Very charming. Thanks for hosting, @StayCurious ! #PemberLittens #JaneAdjacent

Light pick. Lee‘s YA novel about a girl, her mom, and their special ability to make potions of sorts to help with love has the feel of teen emotions, including the complicated mother-daughter relationship, and of course love. I was really invested in the elixir creations and the “heart notes” Mim and her mom could detect for emotions. So fascinating - a smell for everything, from worry to happiness. #SundayBuddyRead

Finished this a little early for #PemberLittens #JaneAdjacent so I could return it to the library today…

A 21st century woman is transported somehow into a 19th century woman‘s body. As a self-proclaimed lover of Jane Austen novels, you‘d think she‘d get some things right - decorum, social mores. Nope. Courtney/Jane is whiny and seems so clueless on some things it baffled me. Actions have consequences, and yet she doesn‘t quite grasp that. ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Librarybelle ⬆️⬆️⬆️ I really did not like Courtney; I did have sympathy in the beginning - of course it would be disorienting to time travel! - but it‘s like she never really learned any lesson. The ending was rushed. I did appreciate Courtney‘s stance on leeches! Thanks for leading us through this one, @StayCurious !! Your daily posts helped a lot!!! 4mo
Librarybelle In her own way, Courtney married the #BestOfBothWorlds to adapt to life in the 19th century. I‘ll take that as a win to cover a prompt for #BBRC ! #YeahBaby @LibrarianRyan 4mo

Mehso-so

Wow…just wow. Dumpster fire, meet banana pants crazy! Without assessing blame or even guessing at psychotic diagnoses, this account is just one hot mess. There are decisions made that I would not make…I lost any naivety of humanity a really long time ago.

There is a part of me that feels sympathy for the author, but my cold, sarcastic heart isn‘t quite as sympathetic.

What a wild ride, and I am eager for the #SundayBuddyRead discussion!

CaramelLunacy I tried to feel sympathy, but the whole thing felt disingenuous. She didn't get caught up because she was just so good natured, she got caught up being greedy for the VIP life. Totally understandable, but she didn't acknowledge that so I was left largely unmoved. 5mo
Librarybelle @CaramelLunacy Really good analysis! 5mo

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I feel like she should have seen the red flags at the very beginning! This was nuts! 5mo
kspenmoll Agree with you. @CaramelLunacy! Both characters were a mess, greedy, vile will do anything for the VIP life as you said! If not for #sundaybuddyread I would have stopped reading it!!! (edited) 5mo

I am so glad I discovered these through #PemberLittens ! Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney are once again thrust into a murder mystery, with acquaintances suspected of murder. They‘ll have to clear names, #OffTheHook , and examine their own feelings towards each other. This has been a fun way to look at Austen‘s characters and new characters in Austen‘s works, and I‘m looking forward to book 3 next year! #JaneAdjacent #BBRC #YeahBaby

LibrarianRyan Yeahhh 6mo
CaramelLunacy I just read The Murder of Mr Wickham and loved Miss Tilney and young Darcy. I was disappointed in the characterization of the Wentworths in that one, but not so much to put me off another venture into this Austenland. Must see if available at the library! 6mo
Librarybelle @CaramelLunacy I read that one last month - I was not in complete agreement with the characterization of Fanny Bertram. In this second book, the Ferrars and Dashwoods are in the novel, and I had no issue with how they were portrayed. 6mo

This final in the Midsomer Murders series is the longest and the most slow burning, character developing novel. When a death occurs, it looks like a simple accident. And yet…

I‘m so glad I found this series on audio! #BBRC #YeahBaby #ADevilInTheDetails

LibrarianRyan Is that the same Midsomer murders they made the show of? 9mo
Librarybelle @LibrarianRyan Yes! The show is a bit different from the books, and obviously not every show is based on the books (isn‘t there over 100 episodes now???). I loved exploring the origins to the show. 9mo

This is a quiet novel, a novel about love and longing and what it means to be a family. It took me some time to get into the writing style, but once I did, I loved the scenic descriptions. Winman has a way of documenting emotions…very stark but yet also layered. It‘s melancholic but yet also hopeful in a way. Lots to think about with this one. #BBRC #YeahBaby #FriendOfDorothy

How to rate a book like this??? It‘s like rating Rickman‘s experiences and thoughts about life. The diary format was clunky for me - pro tip, don‘t try to power through, take breaks - but his insights got me to see the man behind Colonel Brandon. At times super positive, and other times a bit catty, Rickman describes working on films and plays, as well as his constant health battles. I was exhausted just reading about his jet setting ways!

Bluebird Great actor. So many wonderful roles. My favs: Colonel Brandon, Hans Gruber and Snape. Think I need to read his book. Stacked! 14mo
Librarybelle @rmaclean4 @Bluebird I felt a little invasive reading his diaries, but it was also a nice sneak peek into some of his movies and the interactions on set! 14mo
Bluebird 🤔 do you know if he authorized the publication of the diaries? I don‘t think I‘d want to read it if he didn‘t. 14mo
Cinfhen Excellent review! I was going to use this book for the same prompts but I‘m not really a fan and I wonder if I‘ll “enjoy” or appreciate this one?? I might look for another option. 14mo
Cinfhen @Bluebird good point!!! 14mo
Librarybelle @Bluebird @Cinfhen There is not a specific statement anywhere that he authorized this…his wife worked with a collaborator to put this out. So, I‘m not sure. 14mo
Cinfhen Thanks, Jess 💜 14mo
Bluebird Thanks! Hopefully he and his wife discussed this before his death. 14mo
LibrarianRyan I have heard such good things about this. 14mo
