This book is still so good. I haven't read it in years, but I remember devouring it the first time. This time I was struck by how much there actually is to it, and I took my time. It's interesting seeing which parts of our narrator I still identify with and which parts I don't, as well as which parts of the story are still suspenseful and which parts aren't. Glad I revisited this one.

A very unexpected #VintageBook #BookHaul — Rebecca (pub 1946) and Jamaica Inn (pub 1966) — I really like both of these interesting and unusual covers. Sadly the copy of Rebecca has few loose pages but none are missing. The lady who gave them to me said they had been sitting on her bookshelf for over 50 years!

Rushed through the ending because this was due back in minutes. I wasn‘t able to wrap the ending up neatly. Am I dense? Too rushed? I think I‘ll watch the movie.

I take @ljuliel ‘s advice and bail on this. For the second time. 😟 Feels a bit bad – which is rubbish.

You know, I so much wanted to read and to like it but I was bored by it immediately. I think I‘m so impatient because I saw the film first and therefore know the plot. So I couldn‘t stop thinking: “Get going, c‘mon!”

Maybe gothic novels aren‘t for me. Years ago, I also was bored by “Jane Eyre” that I needed to read with my tutor student. 🙄

Uhm, I started this one and I really like this beautiful edition. But I don‘t like the style the story is told. It‘s so dragging.

And I don‘t like Mr De Winter. Seems like Du Maurier copied Mr Rochester one on one – and Mr. Rochester I didn‘t like either (“I‘m so vulnerable but I don‘t talk but, oh, I‘m so vulnerable!”)

I‘m reluctant to bail on it. It‘s a classic‼️ So … But bailing is okay, isn‘t it❓

I think if this were newly written today, it would be put into the “psychological thriller” category (which would do it an injustice).

I took a load of books in to my local secondhand bookshop and couldn‘t resist this cover.

It may be time for a reread of this old favourite! 💖💖

It‘s so sad, but in a way I see it coming again, that I still don‘t have the patience and the calmness to start this today.

I would love to, but … Do you also know this❓🤔 Shortly after you‘ve gone back to work after some days off your mind at home is still unconsciously busy with office things so that you don‘t find the ease of mind to start what you consider a “demanding” read.

I found an edition of this classic where the line spacing seems less narrow. And of course I will give this classic another try.

(I know I have seen the film when I was in my late teen-years but not sure how much I remember.)

I am the luckiest girl in the world! Today has been filled with such delightful bookish mail! 💕📚 A dear friend from my hometown sent me this spooky bookish mug! It has creepy books on it, and changes color when hot! So cool! 😍 The tagged book is my favorite one depicted on the mug!

Friends! I put this book on hold on January 30, and now it's mine 🎉🎉🎉🎉 (for 21 days, at least). I think library holds may be the only part of my life in which I have any patience at all.

This is a reread- read over winter break of my freshman year of high school (shizz, almost 30 years ago now)- the beginning of falling in love with some of the classics 💗

This is one of my favorite books of all time! And no, not because we share a name! 😁💕 I love everything about this book: the creepy atmosphere, the intriguing characters, the mysterious backstory, and of course it has one of the best opening lines EVER! 😍 It's sheer perfection!

Reading Rebecca and our young heroine literally fleeing into another part of the house and contemplating escaping out a window when guests arrived unexpectedly early is honestly SUCH a mood.

Not as intimidating as I thought it would be nor as "scary" as I had hoped, I liked it very much minus the epilogue. For some reason it reminds me of Downtown Abbey with all the descriptions of food and changing clothes and "going through." Sorry it is so so late. I don‘t understand the hype. Read about 1/3 of the book and was bored out of my mind. No one had done anything remotely sinister or even interesting.

I‘m finally reading this #classic novel of romantic suspense. It‘s so good! Also though, I haven‘t read a mass market paperback in awhile and the print is too tiny. My poor 👀.

Last I dreamed I went to Manderlay again.

Having fun imagining Met Gala outfits as book covers! Rebecca was one of my first loves so this counts as very high praise!

1) My sister's Twentieth Century Classics edition of Rebecca. The cover has lost its gleam, the spine is tattered, but it's one of the first books that made me want to write and made me understand what reading can do and whenever I look at the yellowed pages I'm transported back to the time when I read it for the first time.

How has it taken me this ling to read this book?!?!?! This is so amazing, and if you haven‘t read it yet, what are you waiting for? Go! Get started! I love the duality that DuMaurier built into the relationship between the narrator & Rebecca even though never the twain shall meet. Mrs. Danvers is just the right amount of scary & twisted. I also enjoyed the afterward in this edition; it has given me a lot of thoughts to bring to my next reading.
