ravenlee @AlaSkaat Dolphins have passed the mirror test, a standard test for self-awareness, and demonstrate long-term learning strategies. Without being able to communicate with them about their intellectual lives, that might be as close as we can get to saying they have consciousness. 2d

ravenlee @GingerAntics I like that the author is using philosophy to make the science more accessible, and the science to make the philosophy more accessible. Tying together two intimidating specialties in a way that both become less off-putting. 2d

I saw the movie first, then wanted to read the book, hoping for clarity on the ending. If anything, I have more questions now. Both the book and (so fittingly) the movie feel as though they end abruptly, as if, in the end, none of it matters. If anything, this is a commentary on the absolute lack of sex education by the church. Surely that would have given this poor family a clue that something was amiss.

Butterfinger Okay, I agree with all you said, but Jack is also considered a brother. My off-the-wall theory is panchek somehow got jack released by telling the same Sage of Jack and Xaden. Garrick was weakening because he did his distance power so many times. He may have turned in order to save more people, like Imogen. Wasn't Dain also considered missing? Have we been told what Bodhi's second signet is? 2w

Xaden said that the marked ones had second signets often enough that Kaori can‘t have accurate records, but not so often that anyone questions why he “doesn‘t” have a second one. Bodhi hints that he “doesn‘t have one” just like Xaden. We never hear what it is, unless it‘s in the last 11% of the book. I‘ll keep an eye out. 2w

ravenlee @AlaSkaat I think (part of) what James is saying is that it‘s lazy scholarship/philosophy/science to say “wow, this ability/adaptation just appeared out of nowhere! That‘s so weird!” It‘s our responsibility to look from different angles to find the precursor(s) to less-obvious phenomena. 2d

I have had this thought since I was a kid, and was told by my Catholic grandmother that it was quite an uncharitable thought to have. 🙄 Apparently people genuinely believe it is wrong to believe the world shouldn‘t need charity, but since it does, it is our duty to do what we can. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Go figure.

I don‘t see that happening w/o Xaden, unless Sygeal‘s link to Tairn is somehow part of his link to Vi, so if Sygeal breaks the bond like Andarna did, Vi‘s feels lose intensity and then she falls for Aetos. 3w

julesG Reminds me of that time I had to be on a heart monitor all day (in hospital) for my first time on new medication and I read an exciting book. Since my HR spiked instead of dropping the nurses were just amusing themselves and asked how spicy it got. 4w

Chrissyreadit I was supposed to go to LA- i had tickets for an event Rebecca Yarros was speaking at- but we had a crisis here and i spent friday in court with my daughter getting orders of protection- so missed my flight and decided i needed to stay home to make sure everyone is safe.
