Lately I've been listening to celebrity memoirs while I'm at work 1. I don't care if I'm not fully paying attention 2. They're usually pretty funny... I'd love some recommendations of your favorites!!!! 😊

melbeautyandbooks This was an amazing book and listening to him tell his story on audio was fabulous! 8y
beccaeve I liked "Where I Am Now" by Mara Wilson, "Bossypants" by Tina Fey, "The Art of Asking" by Amanda Palmer, both of Mindy Kaling's books, "You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost)' by Felicia Day, "Yes, Please" by Amy Poehler, "Born Standing Up" by Steve Martin and "I Feel Bad About My Neck" and "I Remember Nothing" by Nora Ephron 8y

Is anyone else listening to this on A U D I O and thinking of bailing? I'm having a hard time following... mostly just concerned I'm missing key info! Thoughts?!

Chelsea.Poole I'm also listening...so far I'm just really trying to pay attention to who's POV is who's. Kind of a lot to keep track of but I'm keeping at it! 8y
swishandflick The POVS are tricky in print too! Probably not one for multitasking while listening. Haha 8y
melbeautyandbooks I read it in print and it was challenging. There are so many characters and POVs. I had trouble keeping them all straight. I saw an interview with Paula Hawkins today and she has already sold the movie rights for this book. 8y

keelymorgan I'm feeling super meh about it but I'm going to keep plugging away. I don't care about any of the characters. At least in Girl On The Train I was curious about Rachel! @melbeautyandbooks @swishandflick @Chelsea.Poole 8y
Gissy Currently reading and I like it but I have the physical book. The story goes to present and past all the time. Maybe this is not well capture in the audiobook 8y

Only OK. Some of the cheesiest thriller descriptions I've read in awhile. The main character C O N S T A N T L Y "gets the feeling she's being watched" or "has the feeling that she shouldn't be here" which is very annoying. The plot wasn't predictable to me as it was in All The Missing Girls... but still not my favorite.

Decided to pick this up after reading This Is Where I Leave You.... and I have to say, this one was not my favorite. I didn't like Silver's character and not just because he is "unlikeable". The whole concept of this story was exhausting. But there is no denying Jonathan Trooper is an amazing writer!

JennaRoot Happy with Playster so far? One trick I figured out was to download the book I was listening to on my phone. It makes listening Go much smoother, before that I had trouble getting them to start playing sometimes 8y
keelymorgan @JennaRoot yes! Great so far (other then some streaming issues)! And I learned that the hard way (I've been downloading them before listening now)... the app is mediocre but worth it for the amount of audiobooks I listen to. I was scraping the bottom of the barrel for available audiobooks from my library. 8y

Thank you Audible for a 🙌🏼 deal of the day! Gay is amazing! I was not a huge fan of hearing her book reviews (however I am interested in her opinions and recommendations) - I just felt that I would have rather read that in a blog vs her essays. I wanted to hear more personal stories and her opinions. Nonetheless, I thought it was great! Not my cup 'o tea. The characters were original and unique (loved the count and Sofia), the writing was amazing (for some parts) but the story was a pan.... I was bored, there was minimal plot, and I listened to it on audio. Was this my mistake? I get mixed responses to that. Either way, this is a unique read. I understand why some of you loved it. Unfortunately, it's not for me! On to the next one....

I have had to become less picky with my audiobooks because I've maxed out my holds at the library. The short chapters annoyed me on audio for some reason. I NEED HELP: What are some amazing audiobooks? I need something amazing after a few so-so's ?

Ncostell I love Anne Tyler and enjoyed this book but it was not one of my favorites from her. I happened to read this one rather than listen to it and just didn't fully connect with the characters or story as I have with some of her other books. 8y
megnews Hmmmm. This has been on my tbr for awhile. 8y
Curiouser_and_curiouser I've just read this & as I'm coming up to the age of 50 I could relate to many of the characters & situations in this book. It's my 3rd Anne Tyler so I can see her style. I find her books easy to read, interesting, relatable & observant of small everyday feelings you might never have put words to. To me they don't need a plot or surprise ending, I just love the feel of home when I read her stories. Looking forward to reading many more this year! 5y

Having a hard time getting into this one.... has anyone else listened to the audiobook?

Emily92Bibliophile Haven't listened to the audio book, but loved reading the book. It's a difficult read concerning the subject ( the the first 10 or so chapters are very slow), but it is a wonderful book and story. 8y
heatherspoetlife I listened to it. It was pretty slow at first and I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator but I ended up enjoying it overall. 8y

cathysaid Keep going. It took me a few chapters as well, but I read it. Regardless, once the plot starts coming together, it wonderful! ❤️ 8y
britt_brooke I read it in print and loved it. I'd say give it a little more time and hopefully it'll rope you in. 😊 8y
Spiderfelt I listened to the audiobook and ultimately gave it a so-so. I finished it because I wanted to see what everyone was talking about, but not because I loved it. I'm certainly in the minority here, but I believe in truth telling, and I just didn't love it. 8y
Notafraidofwords You might want to try to read this one In print. I must say it's beautiful. 8y
Laura317 Yes, I agree with @Notafraidofwords - it IS beautiful. 8y
Suet624 I was going to say that I can't imagine listening to it. You might want to read it. Each chapter is very short and I think it's easier to follow if you're reading it. It's an amazing story. 8y
Books88 I forced myself to finish this one. I like the prose but I had a hard time getting into the story. 8y
keelymorgan @Suet624 hmm maybe I'll have to switch. I feel so committed to the audiobook but I also want to give it my best shot 8y
Lindy I listened to this one and that's the only reason I kept going. I wouldn't have put the effort in on my own with print. Overwrought prose. Felt like the author was manipulating me and so my overall impression was meh. 8y
lynneamch My vote goes with @StoredFeminism . It took awhile but I listened and enjoyed. Can't quite explain, but I think there was something about listening as opposed to reading that enhanced my connection to the girl who was blind. The Nightingale | Kristin Hannah
post image

Historically, (pun intended) I've shied away from historical novels. I would really only read fantasy and futuristic dystopian lit and I especially loved dystopian YA. This year (since quitting an awful life sucking job) I've been reading a much wider selection. I just finished The Nightingale and am starting All the Light we Cannot See. I am already looking for more WWII fiction or nonfiction. PLEASE RECOMMEND! #LITSY #WWII #HISTORICALFICTION

heatherspoetlife So not exactly what you're asking for, but IcM't recommend this one enough. It's post-WWII in that deals predominantly with PTSD from being at Auschwitz. There are many scenes that flash back to during the war but evem that isn't about the fighting, but the rounding up of victims. Its an amazing story. 8y
keelymorgan @StoredFeminism that sounds amazing! I just stacked it 😊 thank you thank you!!!! 8y
ReadingsByTheC I really enjoyed this one. It's set in London during the war and deals with a young boy who has lost his grandma right at the time when city children are being sent to the country to avoid the bombings. He's placed in a small town with a woman who's only taking him in for the money and isn't very motherly. The book is mostly about their relationship but there are also a few interesting side stories dealing with other people in the town. 8y

mom2bugnbee Start here, then read everything else by Ruta Sepetys. 8y
Christy2318 I agree with the Crooked Heart recommendation. Other recommendations - The Secret Keeper Kate Morton, Code Name Verity Elizabeth Wein (with lots of tissues), The Girl You Left Behind JoJo Moyes, The Lavender Garden Lucinda Riley. Older books - The Winds of War and War & Rembrance by Herman Wouk. I personally didn't really care for All the Light We Cannot See. 8y
britt_brooke All the Light We Cannot See has the most beautiful descriptions. I loved it. 8y
Bloomingjen Lilac Girls - I havent read but my mom says it is good and i have it tbr. The Bronze Horseman is amazing- devastating. Geez I have read a ton of ww2 fiction but can't think of many titles at the moment. 8y
