Vacation book 2! Jumping back into the Throne of Glass series. I‘m wanting to finish the series by the end of the year. That might be a stretch with my Halloween and Winter TBR, but we‘ll see how I do.

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 2 Ch.55-56/review: what a bombshell - Celaena is the long lost princess and heir to Terrasen. I think we all knew that, right? I wonder if Chaol will be able to keep her secret. Do we think the King suspects? Doubtful. He never would have sent her to Wendlyn if he did. I was sad for Chaol saying goodbye to Celaena - he loves her and knows he has lost his life with her. ⬇️

StayCurious What will he do about the wyrdkeys? He‘s a good man…but too damn loyal to his king and his hard won profession. And to Dorian - even though he never tells him things haha. Will he be forced to go back to his home at some point? How long can he hold his father off? I found this book does a good job of stirring things up and making you want to continue the story. Overall I liked this story. It‘s definitely a bridge to future events. It had good ⬇️ 1mo
StayCurious World-building and some great action scenes and revelations that brought us further attachment to these characters. I found Celaena is harder in this book but still a sympathetic and strong character. 1mo

mcctrish I‘m sad SJM killed off Nehemiah but we have 3 leaders ( if Chaol goes home) now that can come together in a new world. It really did set up more stories 1mo
Laughterhp Wow! I actually finished at the same time, even though my timing has been all over the place. I really liked this book. It was action packed, I liked the world building and all the characters. I can‘t wait to read the next one. 1mo
BarkingMadRead Ugh this was so good, I can‘t wait to start the next one! 1mo
5feet.of.fury This had way more going on than book 1 and I found the character development to be more cohesive. I could have done without Nehemia seemingly sacrificing herself for celaena‘s development. Archer‘s meddling was dramatic enough. But this was a very exciting installment, with the 3 separated I have no idea how the next book will unfold 1mo
LiseWorks Ok, to the next installment. I was sad for all of them. I still love Dorian, and I have so many questions. 1mo

5⭐️ I know not everybody‘s going to agree with me on this, and that‘s OK. The first time I read this book I rated it four stars. Reading it again reminded me how much I loved it, and if I can still love it the second time around, and want to read it again, it‘s a five star. This was us on my February‘s #DoubleSpin for #BooksSpinBingo. So a big thank you too @StayCurious for creating this group and helping me reach this reading goal.

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 2 Ch.52-54: Well if we weren‘t sure of Chaol‘s feelings for Celaena before, we know now. He loves her and understands that he can never be with her but he is willing to do anything to protect her. Even send her away and give up his life in the guard. But of course he can‘t talk to Dorian and explain so those two will be at odds. Sigh. I worry about them each being on their own.

StayCurious At least we know for sure now that Celaena remembers who she is. I thought she might‘ve blocked some of her past due to trauma. We‘ll finish tomorrow. 1mo
mcctrish Keeping boys alive ✔️ I‘m glad we learn Celaena is who we thought she might be and it isn‘t dragged out further, despite the 3 of them not confiding in each other much I feel like they are better together than apart 1mo

BarkingMadRead Omg it‘s so hard to put down 1mo
LiseWorks I'm not sure Choel sending her away is the right choice. And him going back home? Dorian, well, he is just confused. Wait until the king finds out. 1mo
Roary47 I wish they would stay together. Chaol is not the greatest at making decisions. I mean he‘s one of my favorites because he‘s the human (I liked Mike in the Twilight series 😅), but dude… decisions are not his thing! 🤣 1mo
Littlewolf1 Poor Dorian… he so lost right now and feels like he is loosing his two best friends. I am happy that Chaol made the decision to put Celaena first this time, despite the way he went about it. 1mo

It‘s fun reading the less popular Maas series because I haven‘t been constantly inundated with spoilers 😂 really increases the intrigue. For all Chaol‘s screw ups, I‘m still not sold on Dorian, he‘s kind of a dork. Thanks for hosting us @StayCurious

I'm just having the most fun with this series. #LittensloveSJM Thank you @StayCurious for leading us.

I change my baby's name on my current favorite book character. It is just a thing I do to aggravate my friends and family. Her nickname is currently Ruhn Dannon, a Maas character. I haven't found a character yet that I adore as much as Nesta ACOTAR or Ruhn CC, but knowing Maas, one will come.

5✨ Now the kings champion she must do his biding, which is taking out his enemies. As we progress in this book we grow stronger relationships with her friends, learn more about the past, and find out there is a more pressing adventure that needs to be accomplished. By the end we find out a huge truth. I was confused for a long time, but to tie it all up into a nice story to continue is really exciting! #LittensLoveSJM I know I just couldn‘t stop!

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 2 Ch 49-51: Man, Chaol certainly saw some things…will he be able to keep all this from the King. This is just my opinion but he‘s pretty useless at everything so here‘s hoping he can at least keep a secret. Celaena is Fae - not just magical - but Fae. She‘s also very strong - when her magic isn‘t contained by whatever the King has done in her realm. Also, thank God they didn‘t kill the dog. ⬇️

StayCurious Do we think Archer deserved to die? Does it show Celaena as strong or as someone without any mercy? 1mo
mcctrish Archer was a loose canon, just like the king, he deserves to be dead 1mo

BarkingMadRead Chaol is a hot mess, this may break him 🤣 and Archer can leave right out, no problem 1mo
LiseWorks Oh, I am so glad she got rid of Archer. Oh, and the dog! I was so worried about fleetfoot. Thank God for Dorian. 1mo
5feet.of.fury Yep, so glad she didn‘t let Archer go. Screw him 1mo
5feet.of.fury Chaol‘s double take was hilarious. & agreeeeee so happy Fleetfoot made it! 1mo
Roary47 I‘m glad Archer showed his true colors at his end so he won‘t be a problem. “No, I‘m not… but Nehemia was”. You go C! Okay, Chaol is officially the only human in their trio, and he went after Fleetfoot in the scary portal. We got to give him that right? Chaol has seen a lot, poor ordinary human man. 😔 1mo
Butterfinger @Roary47 I was thinking the same. He went after the dog. "Poor ordinary man" hahaha. He is evidently scared of C's Faeness. After brutally killing Grave, I knew she wouldn't let Archer go. In my head while she was walking away, I was screaming, "what are you doing?" I don't know if she planned to put him off guard or if it was his arrogance to explain the death thrust. 1mo
Littlewolf1 @Butterfinger good, I am glad that she killed him. For a minute I actually thought she was gonna let him go and he didn‘t deserve it. Again, my contentment for Choal grows every time he‘s in the chapter. Is he really looking at her with disgust because she‘s not human? 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 2 Ch.46-48: we are finally getting somewhere with the riddles in the tomb and Mort is actually helpful for once. Chances are the King already has two of the keys - too bad he‘s clever and steps ahead of Celaena. Then Celaena decides to do something reckless - open a portal to speak to Nehemia. Yeah, that‘s a great idea. ⬇️

StayCurious We already know creatures like the ridderak can come through from other realms and that‘s dangerous for everyone. I understand she‘s grieving but seriously this is such a bad plan. So bad that Dorian is actually warned by an ancient king in his dreams to stop her. He takes the time to grab Chaol and this means they arrive too late - the portal is open and something has arrived. ⬇️ 1mo
StayCurious Also, Celaena discovers the truth about Archer - he was behind Nehemia‘s death. I‘m surprised because I honestly thought the king was behind it. I guess he just benefited from it. 1mo

Butterfinger So close to the end. Will the next book be Assassin's Blade, based on publication, or Heir of Fire? 1mo
StayCurious @Butterfinger we are going with the Romantic or emotional reading order and that means Heir of Fire will be next and then the Assassin‘s Blade. 1mo
Laughterhp Omg! I‘m finally caught up! Phew! So much has happened. I can‘t believe she decided to open a portal. Yeah, I was surprised by Archer as well. 1mo
Roary47 I‘m glad she got to see N even though this was a huge mistake. Archer is bad news! That creature description reminded me of something between Slinder Man and a Wendigo. 😱I hope this means they can all be friends again when they deal with this situation. 1mo
Littlewolf1 Same, I knew I didn‘t like archer for some reason. I honestly forgot that he was a total jerk, is a nicer way to put it. And we just got rid of a monster now we got a new one. 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 2 Ch.43-45: another intense scene underneath the library with the creature who lurks there. I really wonder who he used to be. Is it someone we‘re supposed to know? I felt kind of bad for the thing. I‘m glad Dorian and Celaena are talking and now know some of each others‘ secrets. Not all of course because that would be too easy. Everyone is afraid of telling Dorian “Dude, your dad is literally the worst!” ⬇️

StayCurious He‘s going to have to accept it soon. So will Chaol. I‘m surprised he didn‘t know the library catacombs were there. Imagine if he actually explored the castle he‘s meant to protect!? 1mo
Butterfinger Your last comment reminded me of Celaena's jab to Chaol after killing Grave. Apparently, I am doing your job or something to that effect. The last bit was so sad to me. The king is doing magic to experiment on people. And, I am lead to believe it's allies that are easily tricked like Kaltain. 1mo

mcctrish What does Chaol actually do? 😆😆😆 1mo
Roary47 I‘m just speculating here, but in the first book are not the different champion potentials missing organs? Could that be the organs that Celeana was finding in the creature? We know that the king has something to do with those deaths with Cain‘s help. I assumed that the creature they had in the first book was eating them, but maybe not. I‘m so glad that D and C are able to talk about stuff. D especially needed a friend to know about his magic. (edited) 1mo
5feet.of.fury @Roary47 I was thinking of the other contestants too! Or the fae? I don‘t know I have a lot of theories 😂 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 2 Ch.40-42: yikes! That witch sure was scary! Here‘s hoping members of her clan don‘t seek revenge #knowthatisgonnahappen — I feel that she probably did sell Dorian‘s secrets - probably to Roland. That‘s gonna be dangerous later. Finally we got some answers as to how the King grew so powerful so quickly. I‘m sure he has a wyrdkey - but does he have the riddle and does he know what it means? ⬇️

StayCurious Is one of the keys locked in that place in the library that Celaena found earlier? Or are they spread around further apart? 1mo
Butterfinger It's starting to remind me of Crescent City with the multiverse. I know the group hasn't read it yet, so I won't spoil it. It's just giving similar vibes. I hate Chaol grieving. He's beginning to see that he's misplaced his loyalty. 1mo

Roary47 This was a big eye opening chapter for Chaol, and I am finally accepting I‘m not on #TeamChaol anymore at least not with Celeana. I love that there is an adventure of the search for the Wyrd keys. 🤩 1mo
BarkingMadRead Omg that witch chapter was insane! 😳😳 1mo
mcctrish I read the first 4 of these ages ago and the witch is the first thing I have remembered - I still like Chaol @Roary47 but as an old 👵🏻 they all need to chill and focus on the tasks 😆 1mo
Littlewolf1 I will say again that I‘m glad that she‘s no longer with Chaol. He consistently shows that his loyalty is inconsistent. I‘m so glad we finally getting some Witch chapters, and I‘m excited for Celaena to start looking into the ward keys 1mo
Littlewolf1 @Butterfinger remember that SJM made a post that for a book 6 of ACOTAR, you should have all books in all three series read. 1mo
Butterfinger @Littlewolf1 I did not know that. I knew it was called MaasVerse for a reason. 1mo
LiseWorks Yep, that witch was intense.. 1mo
5feet.of.fury I‘m kind of irked that she‘s still protective of and friendly with Dorian but cut off Chaol. But I agree with @mcctrish they‘ve got to stop focusing on their relationships and start being truthful & figuring out what‘s really going on. 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 2 Ch.37-39: it‘s sad to see Celaena grieving and also feeling angry that Nehemia lied to her. But I think she‘s slowly coming out of the fog. She will need to find purpose and perhaps solving the riddle is what she needs to focus on. How do we feel about Chaol finding out her true identity? Will he feel compelled to tell the King? ⬇️

StayCurious It‘s interesting that she was all about Dorian, then Chaol (so she pushed Dorian away) and now she‘s angry with Chaol so she‘s back to Dorian for company. Those boys are going to have to work hard to keep their friendship. 1mo
BarkingMadRead She‘s definitely acting fickle, but i think she still really cares about Chaol! So many things to stress about 1mo
See All 9 Comments
Butterfinger It's so frustrating to me as a reader. I hate when the protagonist has to learn on their own. Just tell them and us. I'm mad at Nehemia and Elena, too. I can hold a grudge as long as Nesta can. 1mo
mcctrish @Butterfinger me too!!! 1mo
Roary47 I‘m concerned that since Chaol doesn‘t have a relationship with her he will look to his “duty” again. I also don‘t like that she is flip flopping on the guys, but I think I finally am not holding out hope that her and Chaol will get back together. He also knows he messed up. I hope he will make it right by figuring out he is serving a bad ruler. 1mo
Littlewolf1 Here‘s more evidence that Nehemia was manipulating Celaena from the very beginning. Did she ever even considered Celaena a friend, or it was just an attempt to control her. Would she have done the same thing if Dorian was easier to manipulate? What do you think that Chaol weill do with the information that he‘s discovered. Lastly, super glad Dorian and Celaena are talking again. Don‘t think they should be a couple, but I love them as friends. 1mo
LiseWorks See, I'm on team Dorian. But I wish these two would be more open. Dorian is seeking out why he has powers. She is seeking out who she truly is. She has powers because no one can fight like she does without powers. So please trust each other. They would be a match if she is a princess from a high house. 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 2 Ch.34-36: Although it was Grave that killed the princess, I don‘t know if I believe that it was really that minister behind it all. I feel like the King is manipulating everything. Celaena needs to remain on her guard - she is being used. And if Chaol‘s father knew about his relationship with Celaena, you can guarantee the King knew. Things are deadly in that glass castle and Celaena is all alone.

BarkingMadRead So much intrigue in this book! I don‘t trust anyone anymore! 1mo
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead we absolutely can only trust Fleetfoot 1mo
See All 11 Comments
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish grateful for Fleetfoot!! 1mo
Roary47 @mcctrish Agreed! There was a lot going on, but I agree I don‘t think we have the whole picture. I still don‘t quite understand how Chaol is at fault. He knew N needed protected, but he also was kidnapped himself at that time. Was he there when the singer was beheaded? Does he know how short fused the king is? I still want to believe in him, but I think I always pick the wrong guy. 😭 1mo
Littlewolf1 Wow that is a-lot to unpack. I still feel bad for Choal, especially after meeting his dad. Celaena proves again that she is bot someone you want to piss off, at all. And i agree with @mcctrish the only one we could trust is Fleetfoot. 1mo
Butterfinger I know this - Do not get on that girl's bad side. She flips in a heartbeat. Grave had it coming, but goodness me. 1mo
LiseWorks I think Celaena better be careful here with the king. And why is Roland agreeing with everything Dorian is doing or asking in those council meetings. 1mo
mcctrish @Roary47 the internal threat to N was glossed over, the beheading of the singer was never mentioned again, none of the original 4; D, C, N, C have talked/explained things to each other altho‘ C did tell them she wasn‘t killing the King‘s targets. She tried to let them in - they all condemned her choice but offered no truths of their own 1mo
mcctrish @LiseWorks C definitely has to be careful with the King. She needs to get over herself and talk to Chaol and Dorian, not for sexy times, but information. She needs to know who‘s mad at who and who‘s scheming ( Roland) and what is up with those rings ( N would have been so helpful I don‘t understand why she got killed off so fast) 1mo
5feet.of.fury Archer has a lot of these deaths on his head too (the people who helped kidnap Chaol, he‘s the whole reason Chaol & Celaena weren‘t there when Nehemia died) and I feel like he got off easy. I was surprised when she didn‘t got straight after the king. I think the guy taken to the dungeons is taking the fall. 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 2 Ch.31-33: Poor Celaena - to have those final words spoken between her and Nehemia playing over and over again must be heartbreaking. At least the King didn‘t make her stay in the dungeon - he must still think she‘ll be useful. Also, I call absolute BS that the King wasn‘t behind the killings. He knew about it - he ordered it. ⬇️

StayCurious My guess - the person Celaena saw lurking outside the library. Perhaps he is the King‘s real “champion” who does his bidding. 1mo
BarkingMadRead Ohhhhh I can‘t wait to find out about the mystery guy! 1mo

mcctrish Absolutely the creepy lurker is behind the killing! The sound of wings could it be their summoning ? 1mo
Roary47 I was glad she got to be with her puppy again. Chaol made a mistake in not telling her, but for some reason he is oblivious that the king is a bad dude and still works for him. Kaltain having to marry so she can get out of prison kinda sucks. I guess it‘s better but that dude put her there in the first place. 😓 1mo
Laughterhp I‘m only on chapter 10. I‘m hoping to catch up on my flight tomorrow! 1mo
Butterfinger I keep going back to chapter 25. It just seems like Elena told/ordered her to die, and N was willing to sacrifice herself????? They wanted C to break. Does C have magic like Dorian??? Wow! I did not get that it was Dorian who stopped her from killing Chaol. I'm sort of hoping Nehemia staged it, but that would be so manipulative. 1mo
Butterfinger You are missing some action @Laughterhp 1mo
StayCurious @Butterfinger I thought that in Ch.25 the queen was telling Nehemia to kidnap Chaol to manipulate Celaena. But you might be right - perhaps she did know she would die if she stayed there that night. Knowing it would motivate Celaena and the masses to rise up. 1mo
Littlewolf1 @Butterfinger this is what I got from it. She willingly gave up her life to manipulate Celaena to her cause. Is it the right cause, yes absolutely. By the way, it was done or wrong. And though I don‘t think Chaol was the right choice for her, and I‘m glad he‘s recognized that he has lost her because of his own betrayal, she did irrefutably damage that relationship. 1mo
5feet.of.fury @Butterfinger @Littlewolf1 that‘s what I thought too, but then she was in on the kidnapping so I wasn‘t sure 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 2 Ch.28-30: A lot to sort through in these quick and brutal chapters. I will say that I was expecting the death of Nehemia - that poor brave girl was crossing all the lines. The King is a despot and suspected her and he wouldn‘t let that go. She is now an example of what happens to people - even royals - who stand up to him. I was sad that she seemed to be using Celaena for her cause. For the greater good and all that. ⬇️

StayCurious I was also not surprised that Archer was more than he was letting on. I don‘t know how Celaena can ever work with him though - not after this. And she‘ll never be able to trust those closest to her again - she will be alone again and that is very sad. Although Chaol didn‘t know the King‘s full intentions he knew something that he didn‘t share. He‘s willing to run away and marry Celaena but he still keeps things to himself. 1mo
StayCurious Ugh so many emotions to unpack! But the main one remains : poor Celaena. 1mo
See All 11 Comments
mcctrish Even Chaol‘s reaction to Celaena fighting and killing all the people in the warehouse rings false. He trained her but he doesn‘t expect her to use the training? How is he a guard? He makes me mad 1mo
Roary47 😭😭 I knew it wouldn‘t be all sunshine and rainbows, but these chapters were brutal. If Celaena wasn‘t pulled away to save Chaol could she have been there for Nehemia? How does someone who loses so many people around them keep going with having friends. I‘m hoping the next chapter Fleetfoot can do some good puppy therapy for her. 💔 1mo
LiseWorks I was in shock with these chapters. 1mo
5feet.of.fury Chaol & Dorian not knowing what was happening right under their noses ticks me off. Archer too, implicating Chaol when Archer himself knew about what would happen to Nehemia & is the reason Celaena wasn‘t at the castle. 1mo
BarkingMadRead Nehemia was devastating, and Calaena‘s reaction broke my heart. I knew Asher was an ass, but not that much of one! 1mo
Littlewolf1 The fact that Nehemia was basically resigned to her fate in order to push Celaena the way she wanted to go has never sat well with me. The fact that Chaol takes the blame for it as well, despite the fact that Nehemia and Asher are basically the ones that orchestrated it, is also crap. The king wanted her dead, but they knew it and allowed it to happen to manipulate Celaena to their cause, is BS. It was important, and sad, but still betrayal. 1mo
Butterfinger I was mad at her yesterday, but I didn't want THAT to happen. Am I wrong? That very short chapter said queen- I assumed it was Elena. 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 2:Ch 25-27: based on chapter 25, am I right in thinking it‘s Nehemia in charge of these rebels and behind Chaol‘s abduction? If so, that‘s cold. I get that she‘s in a very tough position, but to try to get Celaena to Hulk out by kidnapping Chaol is cruel manipulation. Especially after what happened with Sam. But the rebels would think this is war and difficult decisions need to be made. ⬇️

StayCurious Also, I‘m sure the king is suspicious of Chaol. He‘s probably suspicious of everyone: how will they explain his daylong absence if he survives? 1mo

StayCurious @mcctrish I could definitely be wrong but the way the conversation went in the tomb had me considering 1mo
mcctrish You aren‘t wrong, Nehemia wants to force Celaena‘s hand for sure but I don‘t think N knows what the king is holding over C #cuztheydonttalkabouttherightstuff 1mo
BarkingMadRead So much drama, Nehemiah is a sneaky one! This should get interesting 1mo
mcctrish Also I too love that Celaena knows her worth 1mo
Butterfinger @mcctrish @StayCurious why would Elena be talking to Nehemiah? I agree with you that it was N. This means that the tomb was not new to her. Another 'friend' that breaks Celaena's trust. mcctrish @Butterfinger if Nehemiah is going to be mad she needs to start explaining shit ( and I‘m not saying her fight isn‘t worth fighting, but she needs to be a bit more forthcoming ) 1mo
Butterfinger @mcctrish I know. She has been lying like a rug. 1mo
LiseWorks I think Nehemiah was hoping Celaena would act on her own, they had a fight, and now drastic measures have to take place. It's either her or the prince, which I think Dorian is really falling behind in that department. Again, I see Nehemiah pushing someone into taking action. And no one is taking the bait. 1mo
Littlewolf1 Man, those were the shortest chapters we‘ve had so far. This time it was really hard to stop at three, as I‘m starting to feel the heaviness of the story. The kidnappers are totally, correct, though. Chaol was very easy to capture, which has a big part to do with his current distraction. 1mo
Roary47 I wasn‘t even thinking Nehemia. However, it makes sense. Chaol has a lot of faith in Celeana. I think it‘s sweet that the damsel is the guy. It‘s a nice switch. Like Chaol said the people that trapped him were cowards to capture him that way. 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 2 Ch 22-24: some big happenings in these chapters. Celaena and Chaol‘s relationship seems to be flourishing- although it must remain secret. But they‘ve basically agreed to run away together! Poor Dorian when he finds out. And Celaena and Nehemia fought about their views on what must be done - Nehemia wants her to stand and fight and Celaena doesn‘t want to risk herself and those she loves. ⬇️

StayCurious And who can blame her - we‘ve seen what the king does to those who stand up to him. Not everyone is strong enough to be a martyr. Dorian seeks answers from the crone at the carnival. She wasn‘t very helpful imo. Just creepy. 1mo
mcctrish Chaol and Celeana might want to take the shenanigans down a notch if they want it to stay a secret #justsaying (edited) 1mo

BarkingMadRead I love that they‘re together but I worry for her anyway. He‘s such a rule follower and him knowing she‘s not actually killing people could bite her in the ass! 1mo
5feet.of.fury Chaol took Celaenas confession pretty well 😅 1mo
5feet.of.fury Is Celaena really Aelin (don‘t answer me lol) 1mo
mcctrish @5feet.of.fury I‘ve been wondering 1mo
5feet.of.fury @mcctrish the clues are adding up! 1mo
Butterfinger I am glad someone said it @5feet.of.fury @mcctrish I think that is why she is so scared to fight openly against the kng. I liked both boys. I didn't really have a favorite so now I am waiting for the #youaremymate moment. I am not getting Archer's part. He sent her to Davis. And, now he has an indirect part in families escaping. What is happening? 1mo
LiseWorks And I was rooting for Dorian! And I am scared for him as he discovers some truth. 1mo
StayCurious @Butterfinger SJM is tricky - I still don‘t believe Chaol is “the one” since the series is so long 1mo
mcctrish @Butterfinger #youaremymate 😆😆😆 @StayCurious I better not have to live through another Tamlin letdown 1mo
mcctrish Also @Butterfinger maybe Archer is the mastermind ? 1mo
Roary47 @mcctrish I like Choal so I‘m also hoping it‘s not another Tamlin situation. I think it‘s a good match. That may change as they do, but Dorian needs to figure out his new magic stuff. 1mo
mcctrish @Roary47 imagine if all 4 of them ( Dorian, Chaol, Nehemia and Celaena) talked to each other about all their things I bet they could solve this faster 😆😆 1mo
Roary47 @mcctrish 🤣 That would be too easy! We still have like 4-5 books. 😬🤣 1mo
Littlewolf1 I‘m loving hearing all the theories. I wish I could read this for the first time again, but I am enjoying the second round. This fight between Celeana and Nehemia is intense. I can understand where both girls are coming from. And Chaol and Celeana‘s rendezvous‘s are cute. 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG book 2 Ch 19-21: I feel so bad for Celaena. Not only does she have to contend with the year she spent in Endovier, but also the death of her parents and all the atrocities she saw during that time. And let‘s not forget losing Sam in such a terrible way. She is really strong to be able to cope (and yes - cake helps). I wonder if Chaol or Dorian can ever really understand her. ⬇️

StayCurious Not even Nehemia for that matter has been through what she has. It must make it difficult to make lasting connections. 1mo
mcctrish Chaol gave up his family to be where he is and is slowly ( maybe) realizing it‘s all for naught, Nehemia has had atrocities rained down upon her people but personal loss and torture, nobody has Celeana beat 1mo
See All 8 Comments
5feet.of.fury The cake thing is very cute. I feel like their circumstances will doom this relationship but Celaena deserves some fun times with Chaol after all that trauma 1mo
Butterfinger I think the men truly want to help. There's lust, but they back away when asked. Chaol knows she needs a friend, knows there isn't anything he can do. It's awful she has to bear it alone. The witch - that was a gruesome description. Plus, Maas didn't want us to forget the violence that Celaena can give. 1mo
Read4life @Butterfinger I agree. I think both of the guys care and are at a loss as to how to behave. Not only do they care about her but they also are aware that they need to be careful how others see their relationship with her. Caring too deeply can put an even bigger target on her. 1mo
Littlewolf1 Sometimes I forget that she is 18 years old. We judge her rash decisions because she‘s supposed to be this great assassin and she supposed to be so tough, but she is still just a kid. It breaks my heart for her, knowing what she had to endure just to survive. 1mo
Roary47 I‘m a little behind, but I really felt for her in these chapters. 🥺 1mo

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 2 Ch.16-18: Poor Dorian! What is happening to him? Is he being used by his father, Perrington & their newest club member Roland? Or is he coming into powers he had buried deep? That‘s dangerous in Adarlan! I do think Archer is up to something and is not giving Celaena good intel. I also think Celaena was probably right in thinking the eye riddle has something to do with her amulet. She needs to trust her instincts.

BarkingMadRead Omg I hope Dorian has magic, so epic 2mo

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 2 Ch. 13-15: Well, in case we didn‘t know how horrible the King is, his actions with the singer proved it. How terrible! I was intrigued with what Celaena found in the library. So many places to explore in this castle - as it should be. As for Dorian, I worry that they might start to try to control him as they were doing with Kaltain. He had a headache and he was surrounded by frost. What does that mean? Interest piqued.

mcctrish I wonder how long before anyone knows what happened to Rena Goldsmith? And I think Dorian is being influenced - will he tell anyone ? 2mo
BarkingMadRead Dorian better watch out, if his dad thinks he‘s dangerous, this could be the end for him! Poor Rena, but she was so brave! 2mo

LiseWorks I was shocked that the king actually beheaded her. Oh, now I'm worried about Dorian 2mo
Butterfinger Oh goodness, what a chapter. I really felt for Dorian. I think that "look" between Chaol and Caelena is from trust. She could not fully trust Dorian because he is the son of the brutal king. Will Rena's death propel more rebellion? Will Nemehiah feel it? I loved the image of the lighted grooves that was part of the art on the walls. That was cool. 2mo
Littlewolf1 So when people ask me how I can read multiple books at one time, I always refer to the series. I remembered why, but I felt why today rereading these chapters. I love the series. It‘s still one of my all-time favorites and my favorite by SJM, but it gets pretty dark. I really hate that though singer died, but i‘m glad she had the strength to stand up to tyranny. I‘m also glad Dorian‘s ready to let Selena go, because he truly deserves happiness. 2mo
Roary47 @Littlewolf1 I agree this is my favorite SJM series. I don‘t remember much of what happened when I first read it so I‘m falling in love with this series all over again. I‘m worried for Dorian, and Rena was so brave! I‘m not really surprised that the king had her beheaded, but I‘m glad there is a group of people out there looking to bring someone in for the people instead of self interest. 2mo

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 2 Ch 10-12: has Celaena lost her edge? I feel like she should be better than getting poisoned by a mark/she should anticipate these types of things. Now the question is- did Archer set her up? Or is he innocent in the whole thing? And why did his client have that book? Too bad she couldn‘t have brought it to Nehemia to translate. Thank heavens Celaena made it to Chaol - one of the only people she could trust to help her.

BarkingMadRead That was so stressful, and really not good for an assassin to get caught like that! 2mo
mcctrish I wondered about Archer too 2mo
See All 8 Comments
Butterfinger It was hard to get through the trafficking part. And, how many names does that girl have? 2mo
Littlewolf1 She always tends to be reckless, and seems to have an “ I can‘t be touched” mentality. But that has gotten her into trouble in the past, and the reason why she lost Sam. While I don‘t like the fact that she got hurt, I think she needed a reminder that she is human and needs to be more careful, because she‘s not the only one at risk if she gets caught. 2mo
5feet.of.fury Agree about Archer, that seemed like really convenient timing. Celaena def got too cocky. 2mo
Roary47 Is Archer really still her friend? There is something deeper here, but maybe someone else recognized her with him. So glad she made it to Choal. 😥 2mo

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 2 Ch.7-9: Celaena has decided to look into what the King‘s up to. Just because she finds out his plans doesn‘t mean she has to be the one to stop him. Right? Haha, she‘s funny because she‘s trying so hard to stay out of the intrigue. But the intrigue keeps finding her. I felt bad for Kaltain - she has been used and abused by Perrington and - although she may have had bad intentions, ⬇️

StayCurious I can‘t help but feel bad that she‘s rotting away in that prison. I‘m intrigued about what Celaena will say to Archer when she sees him. How to warn him and also gain info? He probably won‘t trust her since she works for the king. 2mo
LiseWorks Yeah, I feel bad for Kaltain, too! She is an addict who lost her way, and now Perrington is abusing her even in prison. 2mo
See All 9 Comments
5feet.of.fury It really shows Celaenas good nature that she feels empathy towards Kaltain. 2mo
BarkingMadRead I can‘t wait to see how it goes with Archer 2mo
Roary47 Poor Kaltain. 💔 Also excited to see what comes next. 2mo
Littlewolf1 I still feel really bad for Dorian. He feels absolutely betrayed, and Celaena has never been really good at accountability, she‘s working on it, but she‘s not there yet. It‘s hard for me to discuss Kaitlyn though because this is a reread for me as I loved the series and I wanted to go through it again. But I will say she‘s going through it right now, and no one should have to live that life. 2mo
mcctrish @Littlewolf1 it‘s a reread for me too but I can‘t remember anything much. I want to say Perrington is still going to visit Kaltain to exert magical influence over her and keep her befuddled ( not sexually exploit her which it kind of reads like) @LiseWorks I feel like her addiction is in reaction the the pressure of the magic on her and I vaguely remember the king and Peri talking about further uses for K somehow 2mo
Butterfinger I know Kaltain was a brat, but I can't stand to see her so broken. I hope she is rescued before those headaches kill her. Before, the reader could tell she was being manipulated by Perrington. Now, they are being maliciously secretive with drugs or magic to keep her under their thumb. 2mo

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 2 Ch.4-6: I liked in these chapters how we got glimpses into Celaena‘s past - we learn a bit more about Sam, and a few other characters from the underworld Celaena was a part of. Poor thing is so against being a part of something bigger - she revolts at the thought of fate. That she could be something bigger than herself. She just wants to get her freedom and hide out for the rest of her life. ⬇️

StayCurious And who can blame her after what she went through. But life has other plans and deep down she knows it. Are we sad that she‘s pushing Dorian away? Are we worried about the trouble Roland will bring? Do we like Chaol for her? I‘m torn. 2mo
LiseWorks I'm sad she is pushing Dorian away. Roland is trouble. 2mo
See All 11 Comments
mcctrish Realistically Chaol is a better partner and could maybe help her in her quest, Roland is bad news. The triangle grates on me but truthfully they are all too young to be thinking about love matches 👵🏻😆 2mo
Read4life I honestly go back and forth between Chaol and Dorian. Roland seems like trouble. 2mo
StayCurious @mcctrish I was surprised Chaol had such an important job at 22 2mo
mcctrish And he‘s never killed anybody until Cain #notbelievable 2mo
Butterfinger I think of them as three friends who care so much for each other. Goodness, she was getting mad at that doorknob, but it reminded me that we didn't have any more positive scenes of magic since those flower petals at the opening of her tent. Other than Nemehiah was doing. 2mo
mcctrish @Butterfinger yes, on all counts. So the magic in/around the castle was worked before the ban and is stronger so still present. Those onyx rings the king and Perrington wear must be similar magic. I wonder if the hit list contains anyone who has magical inclinations ? 2mo
Littlewolf1 @LiseWorks I agree, he was always there for her and, i know she is doing it to protect herself and hime, but its leaves him so confused. 2mo
Roary47 I agree with @mcctrish I think Chaol is a better more logical partner for her and I‘ve been #TeamChaol this whole time. I noticed that she stated she did miss Dorian as a friend. @Butterfinger I laughed so hard at the doorknob. It reminded me of the doorknob in Alice in Wonderland (So I love the meme). Roland is definitely someone we should keep our eyes on 👀. (edited) 2mo

#LittensLoveSJM #TOG Book 2 Ch.1-3: Ooh Celaena is playing a dangerous game. How long can she keep sparing the King‘s targets? One of them is bound to come back from the dead at some point. But I also admire her bravery. Will she ever be able to tell Chaol and Dorian? Can she trust them? I am intrigued to learn more about this Archer character. ⬇️

StayCurious Will Celaena be able to keep her mind focused around someone she used to like and admire? I was surprised she wasn‘t completely open with Nehemia. If anyone should know what she‘s up to it should be her I‘d think. 2mo
mcctrish It‘s Dorian and Chaol are so squeamish over the deaths it‘s funny 2mo

StayCurious @mcctrish seriously - never saw a more squeamish captain of the guard 2mo
5feet.of.fury I kind of wish we weren‘t told so early that she wasn‘t killing them, it would have been neat if that was a big reveal down the line 2mo
LiseWorks I am worried that she will be found out. Do you think Chaol suspects something ? 2mo
Roary47 @5feet.of.fury I agree, I wish we wouldn‘t have known so early. I also feel relief that she isn‘t actually killing them. It helps me solidify who I feel she is after reading the first book. She is making allies that can hopefully help her if this plan goes south. (edited) 2mo
Butterfinger @5feet.of.fury @Roary47 I was sort of glad it was revealed in the 2nd chapter. I guess I am squeamish like the boys, and I just didn't like the thought of a character who I like doing something so ugly. She seems to me to be scared of being part of any rebellion. I want to know why. Is it to protect her friends or what she experienced as a child? And, I further think she is being rebellious by allowing the targets to escape. 2mo
Littlewolf1 Hope you don‘t mind, but I‘m jumping in this with you guys kind of last minute. I‘ve been meaning to do this re-read for a while and got stuck after book one, so this is perfect timing. 2mo

Phew that was quite a read! So much happened that I‘m reeling a little, especially in the back third or so. Violent, bloody, and dark with magic, this world gets more and more complex as Celaena strives for freedom. Great characterizations, with quite a few surprises, and lots of plot twists to keep us guessing. Low key the pacing was a bit off, so I found it a bit slow going until quite near the end, but the payoff was pretty good.

Now we‘re talking. Everybody seems to rave about this series, but I read book one and was underwhelmed. In book two, it really seems to hit its stride, though. The three leads get fleshed out here into richer characters, and we get to see the fierce assassin the first book promises but doesn‘t quite deliver. I won‘t say more for fear of spoilers for any other late adopters like me, but I‘m definitely looking forward to the next book! #DoubleSpin
