There is a lot going on here, Long Division is a unique book, and I enjoyed the uniqueness. However, I listened to the audio and I wouldn‘t recommend it. While it was narrated very well, I feel like there were times I got lost and there was no delineation when the time changed and I know I missed things. Would definitely recommend this in print form over audio.

I really liked the themes of this book—racism, black life, family, life choices. But the execution didn‘t fully work for me. It‘s split into two parts. I really liked the first part and wanted to like the second part, but I felt like it went off the rails a bit. There‘s a lot to like here, so I‘ll give it a low pick.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This book has many different elements packed into one little novel. It has time travel and racism, humor and coming-of-age. There are hysterical images I can't get out of my head. The main character is so endearing and the others are unique and memorable. It is unlike anything else I've read.

I wasn‘t planning on getting any books today, but after being verbally abused in the parking lot (some man yelled, “Fuck you, bitch” at me for the heinous crime of…getting out of my car 🤷🏼‍♀️), when I saw this one, I decided it would help me feel better! And fellow Littens, it did.

I recently finished reading Long Division & WOW. Where to even begin. It really did have a bit of everything. Humor, love, time travel...what more could you need 😛 I'm still trying to wrap my head around the ending. But in the meantime I had to do my nails so figured why not paint them to match? I'm quite pleased with how closely I was able to match the colors! 🌈 I posted this on my nail IG & the author commented & shared it, I'm so flattered 🤩

This book was just too dark for me, although it added to my theory that time travel automatically makes a book creepy. Maybe I just wasn‘t in the right headspace because I could tell that it was a good story and the novel-within-a-novel worked really well, but it just left me with a heavy feeling in my gut.

I did enjoy the characters as well as the 3 time periods in this book, but ultimately it was weird and way too confusing for me. Book 59 2⭐️

I‘m loving this book! An excellent summer read!

Next winner in my #LitsyAtoZ drawing is this gem from my TBR stack of print books. Some are ebooks; most are print books. So it's a good thing I finally finished the print book I started in early January. I have to do more of that if I want to get through my 26 books this year.

Read for @bookriot #ReadHarder Challenge to read a book about books. I don‘t know if I like this book or not. I really enjoyed parts, even cried at one, but at times I was confused to where I had to reread pages. Great story & characters, beautiful writing, there was a lot to think about. Feels like one of those classic southern writer books were the fun of the book is when you pick it apart. 3.5 stars, probably will bump it up after rereading.

Well this was SUUUPER WEIRD in the most amazing way. I️ love the voices of all the characters, the time travel tripped me out, and I️ laughed through the whole thing. Some elements were a little confusing, but I️ think reading a hard copy of the book would have cleared things up. That said, the narrator was great! 4/5 stars

I'm not really sure what I think about it. It was definitely quite weird 😅

Everyone seems to love this book but it was just okay for me. I loved the concept (time travel incorporating themes of prejudice, race relations) and I enjoyed the writing style which was smart and funny but half the time I was so confused with the plot that I had a hard time connecting with the important pieces. I liked it, I just didn't love it.

I don't think enough people know about this book. Time travel meets racism meets coming of age story. This novel moves back and forth in Mississippi between 1985, 1964, and 2013. Laymon does an exceptional job capturing small moments that tell big truths. I will be looking forward to more from this author.

4/5 stars--such an entertaining read! Time travel, social commentary, humor, well-developed characters...I definitely recommend it.

At a beach house with a pile of friends celebrating the holidays. There's a YUUUUGE bed swing on the 2nd floor balcony, and I read most of Long Division while sprawled out enjoying the warm weather. This one broke my brain in a great way. #unconventionalbeachreads

I've started teaching my class, so reading has slowed a bit, but this book is pretty special. A book within a book about race, justice, and online fame. It is difficult to explain and sometimes a bit difficult to follow as you are placed in the book without warning, but it was an incredible read and well worth your time.

This starts out really strong for the first two-thirds. Then, like out of nowhere, it gets too dull. It's as if the book needs to end but there are a hundred things to wrap up first. "So-so" rating because the beginning and middle are fantastic.

I hated when folks used the word "however" in regular conversation. You knew that the person you were talking to was so much wacker than you thought as soon as you heard that word.

This is the book I just bought, and seems like a great choice for my first Litsy post. Kiese Laymon is the author. So far I've only read the first chapter but I'm really enjoying it. Discovered this book through @kenny's Twitter.

I can't say enough about what this book meant to me. Hilarious at times, heart up the wazoo, and brilliant at all times.
