It‘s been super hot here: high 80‘s but today it‘s windy. Dinner is grilled veggies, salad, bbq chicken, corn and quinoa😋
pickTotally worth the hours I spent reading this southern novel about family, race, loyalty, honesty responsibility and accountability. This book contained layers upon layers of secrets and betrayals. So well done. Highly recommended.
This book is requiring A LOT of time, concentration and patience BUT.....wowza!!!!! Part II just ended with a MAJOR PLOT TWIST!!! I‘m amazed at how tightly woven all the threads are, this novel is quite a piece of art.
I‘m loving this book but I hardly had time to pick it up in the last 2 days. I‘ve been knee deep in laundry, house cleaning and food shopping.

5. Twelve Mile Straight is hard to describe. It starts with an innocent man brutally murdered by a mob and then the secrets leading up to the killing untold.

Just starting this one. I've been wanting to read it for a while.
pickA book about race and class and family names and honor in Georgia in the 1930s. Two babies are born, of different races, but into one family.
pickThis book was nothing short of amazing. It was well written the characters were all fullbodied and near historical. The way the individuals lives and stories wove together like tapestry. And an ending that I (who can usually figure a plot out rather quickly) was rather shocked about. This story is on my list of favorites. Definitely a recommended read. ❤❤❤
bailedI‘m trying to fight through this awful cold with reading. But this book is totally not doing it for me. I left it, came back to it, I gave it 150 pages. But it‘s just not keeping my attention. It seems well written but very detailed, unnecessarily so. Also- does anyone else struggle with #BookGuilt when you rate a book badly? I feel badly when I say all these negative things. . . but I also feel the need to be honest. 🤷🏻♀️

I really liked the interplay of different Southern “castes” in this book.

pickWOW! I finished this late last night. This story starts with the birth of two babies and a lynching and is filled with secrets, tragedy and heartbreak. This book is raw and feels like picking a scab...Often painful, but so satisfying all at the same time. My book group will be reading because I really want to discuss this one! One of the best of 2017 in my opinion, that unfortunately, isn't getting a lot of buzz.

bailedAm putting this aside for now......it has heavy subject matter that my senses can‘t handle at the moment. It is an interesting book that I look forward to getting into later....
......and my currently reading list keeps growing.....am in the second week of my 2 week staycation and have been reading quite a bit 😉. I know this book is going to devastate me but I feel the need to read it......

so-so3/5⭐️. Opening was good. And dragged and dragged and dragged.........til almost the end. The end was unsatisfying. Meh.

so-soI could of used 200 fewer pages and would have found it more appealing. The story is good it just gets a little boggy trying to squeeze all the southern slights into the mix. This was an ARC from Book Browse for an honest review.
