Really enjoying getting back into this historical romance series about Civil War spies.
Really enjoying getting back into this historical romance series about Civil War spies.
Marlie created a #laboratory where she concocts various herbal remedies. She spends as much time there as possible, because her sister-in-law is a horrible person and turns their home into a base for the Home Guard. Meanwhile, she‘s also harboring a Union spy…

Very good romance: history was from a unique angle, feel like I learned several new strains of American history. Romance was hot! And nuanced. A few places it felt too modern or the POV felt muddled but overall excellently edited. Very enjoyable!
It‘s 1863 in western North Carolina. Marlie, a mixed-race scientist, uses #flowers and other plants to make medicine for injured slaves and escaping prisoners, while a Union intelligence officer hides in her lab and her nasty sister-in-law entertains the head of the local Home Guard. I‘m about halfway through this and really enjoy it so far. It‘s not as steamy (yet) as An Extraordinary Union, but it‘s very interesting.

4/5
This is a great sequel with characters just as great as the ones in the first book. I continue to enjoy all of Alyssa Cole's books.
This was a page turner!! I am not a huge historical fiction reader but this kept me riveted.

Dramatic, inspiring love story set in the mountains of North Carolina in the Civil War. The biracial heroine hides a Union intelligence officer from her white family, practices medicine and pharmacy/healing arts, spies for the Loyal League, and defies the Home Guard. Recommend!
I LOVE THIS BOOK. I‘m super new to the romance genre and my first forays into #romantsy began last year, which was generally kind of eye-rolly for me. But this year I‘ve found some great ones and this book right here?! Checks all my romance boxes: characters you can root for, actual plot, well-researched history, strong writing, and steamy sexy times 😍

A strong follow-up to the first in this series, if you enjoyed An Extraordinary Union you'll want to pick this up too (though it also stands on it's own if you haven't read it). Same solid character development and heartfelt emotion, but also not repetitive which was great. I love Cole's ability to deliver believable chemistry and timely observations in an otherwise tumultuous setting, and with interracial couples to boot. #romantsy
Ughhh I‘m trying to get back into ebooks. I‘ve been off them for probably a year. I just found it difficult to concentrate and get into them. However, I‘m trying to use Libby to get back into them. Just got this message... FIRST TIME EVER! Too many things on hold. (All the Harry Potter books on Audio)
Time to try hoopla😆
I find it easiest to read romance novels on ebooks than any other genre..
This wasn't as good as the first one, but good none the less. I'm enjoying this series with a different view of the civil war than what is taught in school.
Not the Hippopotamus
To many to remember!
Both!
Depends on the time of year!

Man, I don‘t get to see my name as a character often. Idk that I have since the Nest. So I am bummed I share a name with the awful racist Confederate supporting woman. At least the book is great.
I liked this second installment of the Alyssa Cole series. The main characters were sweet and compelling but the story didn‘t move along as well as her first. Definitely better than so-so but I‘m not quite sure it‘s s pick.
This was a really good book that mixed the history of the Civil War time period with a growing romance between two unlikely partners. I really wish that the ending was a little more developed, but maybe that‘s just because I wanted to live longer in the story. I would recommend!!
#currentread while headed to Houston for a tournament. Don‘t worry, I‘m a passenger 😄
Liked this, although I hippie there ous another one, because I want more of this story.
A Hope Divided is the second book in Alyssa Cole‘s Loyal League trilogy, and I absolutely adored it! Very smart and informative, and at its core is a romance that is built on breaking down assumptions and building trust.
I didn‘t love this book, but it was still a good historical romance set during the Civil War. Alyssa Cole obviously did her research and the stakes are higher in this one than An Extraordinary Union. I really liked Marlie, but found Ewan difficult. Overall 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 1/2. #romantsy
Enjoyed this follow up to An Extraordinary Union. Marlie and Ewan got to know each other first through books and letters and really grew their friendship. I really liked how this book stood on its own and had a strong story to tell. Looking forward to the next installment of the Loyal League series.
I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first, but it was still an excellent book. Well researched and a strong heroine, just not as action packed as the first book. #readharder2018 #readingblackout
I really loved Ewan character more than our heroine but there chemistry and banter was good. I liked that this story showed not all southern were for the war and each did they on type of resistance. I do wish we could of saw the reunion with Ewan and his brother but I guess there might be another book for that. I definitely like the first book more but this is a good solid read.
Enjoying Alyssa Cole this morning. One my new favorite authors. I love historical romance ❤️
The first book in this series is more thrilling, so I was a little surprised by the more subdued story in this book. I wasn't even captivated by their weak connection. It's a fine read for a lazy weekend. #24in48
Finding one of the few quiet moments to be had this busy weekend to sneak in a little reading and start this new book! This weekend doesn‘t work for me to do the #tbcreadathon2018 but this is my tiny bit of participation!
1. I need time organize my book shelves

A remarkable romance between a free black woman who is a self-taught doctor/conjurer and a union soldier/escaped prisoner set against the backdrop of the Civil War‘s messy backwoods fighting and complex viewpoints. A really awesome book! 💕💕💕
Read most of this last night, finished it after running errands today.
Overall: engaging and a good level of suspense for a war romance. I appreciate war books that don't make combat seem easy, or pretend a region was a monolith of support and sentiment, or that defecting was easy.
That said: I used to live very close to where this is set, so there were some TINY localisms that seemed weird to me. But I don't know--they may be period-accurate.
Friday's night hockey game are Pens vs Sabres in Buffalo. Almost done with Hope Divided. 15% to go. It is so good. #readingandwatchinghockey
My November accomplishments! Plus a cute fox, because you always need one of those!
I'm passed the half way mark of A Hope Divided. It's really, really good. The game tonight is Matthews vs McDavid. Late game I will probably fall 💤 listening. #readingandlisteningtohockey
Late hockey game, Leafs are on their western Canada annual trip. First stop Calgary and the 🔥 #readingandlisteningtohockey
Best way to start a long day and a trek downtown to the National Library. It's 6 am and I have to leave in about 5 m to bear the trafic, get a parking space at the subway station and get into the city. The meeting is at 10. I'll have about 90 to spare and read the new Alyssa Cole. 😍 #emojinov
My last 5⭐️ book will be out later this month. I haven‘t read the first book in this series but will be correcting that because this #romantsy was spectacular. The scientist daughter of a freed slave hides an escaped Yankee prisoner in her Carolina home when the Confederate Home Guard makes it their base. This book has everything- a smart heroine, lots of tension, a well developed romance and I could go on. #7777giveaway
Congrats @Booksandcooks
The photo challenge this month is going to be fabulous. 📸🏆💋
Nov📚🔜 is Alyssa Cole's book 2 in her civil war series. Coming November 28th.
