There were lots of points here where I had a tough time suspending disbelief and got pulled out of the story, but I liked the characters the premise and especially the art enough to ignore that and still read this in one sitting. #lmpbc

So my first send off for round 14 is living up to my book choice‘s name (Awkward). 🤦🏻♀️ It‘s packaged up along with Stargazing and ready to put in the post tomorrow to @IndoorDame (Sorry to double book you!) 😬 Great books so far! I‘m betting many middleschool students at my school would love both of them too. Hope you all are doing well!

Book was absolutely PHENOMENAL one of my all time books for sure. Definitely would recommend if you like graphic novels, Svetlana chmakova did a great job on this book it runs through almost every emotion and was just a super good red!
This was a cute middle-grade graphic novel about how hard it can be to just be human. Sometimes good people make bad decisions. Sometimes people are under immense pressure to succeed. Disliking someone for arbitrary reasons only leads to disaster. We can work together, even if we disagree. Every single one of us just wants a place to belong and feel safe. No matter what form it takes, bullying is wrong. I liked this, so Zoey‘s reading it now.
I've still got 15 minutes before my 2020 starts but I'm going to ring it in with the tagged book (for 5 minutes...'cause I'm tired.)
Hopefully I can finish it tomorrow and take care of number 6 on the #Booked2020 list.
I thought this was a great story and super illustrations throughout the book. At first I thought the girl was annoyingly awkward (ha ha get it from the title?) but after that it got so much better! She got out of her awkwardness and really shined through. Definitely a great read for teens on how to deal with bullying and friendship while in middle or high school.
3 stars
#LiteraryLuck Day 18: This is perfect for #AwkwardReads - there is a refreshingly multiethnic cast, varied family issues represented, themes on bullying and fitting in are likewise apparent. I enjoyed how the author seems to be challenging conventions and expectations and showed how the blurring of boundaries (science and art or even among cliques/groups) may actually be the best thing that can happen to #Awkward tweeners. https://wp.me/pDlzr-am6
Update: Hooray! It‘s coming!
First time ever I haven‘t gotten a swap box or heard from my match that it would be late. Kind of a bummer but I know that life happens. Must be Karma that my box didn‘t get to my match before they left on vacation. 🤭
Just wanted to update you on why I haven‘t posted @EH2018 ! Thanks for organizing the #MerryandBrightSwap, I had tons of fun searching for neat stuff for my match.
Loved this book! Totally captures the roller coaster that is middle school
This was great! I loved her sense of humor and the characters came to life; can‘t wait to read Brave, the next in the series
I'm so on love with this science teacher! And the art and story so far is excellent and I'm completely rooting for the ever so awkward Penelope and her Art Club! Which I wanna be part of! I was so boring in high school....
#QuotsyMay18 ~ May 14|Awkward ~ I‘ve heard nothing but great things about this middle grade book! Definitely hoping to get to it soon.
Love this book. We just did it with our middle grade bookclub (ages 8-12) and they loved it too. Trust me when I say it‘s awesome!
Oh my goodness. If you work with children, especially in the middle grade age range, you need this book. Checked out this book from the library and totally adding it to the “to buy” list. The way the author approaches diversity and bullying in the subject matter is enough to win me over but the prose was great too! You‘re missing out if you haven‘t read it! I haven‘t read Brave but my 8 y.o. says Awkward is more about being brave than Brave is!
Oh man, so much middle school angst these days. Peppi Torres is at a new school & knows to survive, she needs to follow two rules— #1: don‘t draw the attention of the mean kids. #2: find groups with similar interests & join them. The first day of school Peppi breaks #1 spectacularly but she does successfully manage #2. It‘s downhill from there, however, & soon the art & science clubs are at war. Good story, lively art, lots of laughs. Fun read.
Another graphic novel I‘ve heard great things about—both this one and its sequel Brave.
Somehow I missed these books but they come highly recommended and better late than never. With a teen and a tween and, generally speaking, a family that really likes graphic novels, I feel pretty good about this book fair book haul. So much great reading for the entire family.
adorable little middle grade graphic novel about the rivalry between a middle school art club and science club. it ends with a great message for the young audience it's aimed at. I love the muted color palette in the illustrations, and the characters have such cute, expressive faces! so fun!
This was the first title I thought of when I saw the prompt. It's a really sweet middle grade graphic novel. I'm so glad the author is writing sequels. #Awkward #FallIntoBooks @RealLifeReading
Well this is a new one...I posted a one star review of a book (not the one above, the title just fits how I feel) on Goodreads and the author commented on it! He only corrected a quote I got wrong but now I feel bad lol. Has this happened to anyone else?? I've had authors like good reviews I post of their books and once an author did comment on a positive review. Must be difficult to read the bad ones!
🌟🌟🌟🌟
Already requested the second book in the series from the library and am so glad there'll be a third 😊
.
This was *such* a cute little middle grade graphic novel with beautiful, diverse characters and it made the themes of friendship, bullying, community, and teamwork tremendously accessible to younger readers.
.
Bonus points to phenomenal moms that lovingly defend and support their kiddos AND to totally rad teachers!
I caught my son (10), reading this under the covers, past his bedtime, after reading hour. So... I'm guessing it's pretty good. 🐳🐣🦁🐬💕🐸
My niece and nephew selected these books as my required reading for this visit. I've finished half of them. Solid choices all around. 😃
So cute! And so spot on to exactly how it is being super awkward in school. #graphicnovel #middlegrade #yenpress #diversebooks
This! This is the book I went looking for at Target! Remembered later in the day.
I loved this sweet and hilarious battle between art students and science students. And the science teacher's coffee mug, of course, which I need RIGHT NOW. #booktober #setinaschool
(Note: Apologies for the picture quality...I didn't plan very well for today and snagged the photo off Google Images.😕)
I read this on Thursday (so, before EL DEAFO), but I kept forgetting to snap a photo! Loved this--super sweet story about kindness, friendship, and shared interests. Loved Ms. T! She looked like an awesome science teacher to have--scarily intense but supportive and caring. Love this book!
Our cat Mia guards our @24in48 stack -- he 💜💚💜 books!
This is turning out to be really cute, sweet, and relatable. Great middle grade graphic novel!
Great middle school graphic novel. Female main character stumbling her way through school. Addresses common teen issues and could be a great conversation starter.
Neat graphic novel that tells a worthwhile story. Great for any middle schooler into the graphic novel genre.
Fun graphic novel about 2 middle school clubs learning that art and science are better together. 🎨⚗
