This is kind of like Groundhog Day meets the 4th season of Umbrella Academy. I like what Crouch is attempting here, but boy, does it get tedious at times. For a genius, Jason takes a long time to reach fairly obvious conclusions sometimes. Still, an enjoyable read overall. (I wanted to use a different picture, but Litsy didn't want to let me use any of the photos I had, just this screenshot. So, here we are.)

I enjoyed this book even though I didn't really have a sweet clue what was going on. University physics prof is abducted on his way home from a bar and thus begins a fast-paced story about life's myriad choices and the multiverse.

A fast-paced sci-fi book exploring the possibility of switching between different possible versions of your life. It was a quick read, pulling me along through the story! There were several times where something happened in the plot that felt a little too convenient. But I would say it‘s a pick just because it was creative and entertaining.

Another multiversey, quantummy fast-paced sci fi thriller from Blake Crouch.

I say "another" - this was his first, I just read Recursion first. I'd probably have loved this even more if it had been my entry into his writing.

As with Recursion, this packed a huge emotional punch. Recommended for sci fi and thriller lovers, but expect to be hit in the feels. Repeatedly.

This was my second time reading Dark Matter. It is fast paced from beginning to end. This novel is also where my fascination with the multiverse theories began. It encourages thought about the complexities of identity; What makes you, you? How would even the smallest choice set your life on an entirely different trajectory? What are you capable of, for better or worse, under the "right" circumstances?
I will probably read it again, again.

Some thought provoking moments. This type of subject has been tackled before but not a bad job. More of a love story. I wouldn‘t call it mind bending though as per the quote from Justin Cronin. His own book The ferryman also a subject done before but that one is the best I‘ve read and is indeed mind bending. I would recommend that one highly. This is not bad though. I‘ll also read the sequel of Dark Matter called Recursion.

A decent spec-fic thriller. The narration is rapid and choppy which heightens the sense of urgency, but gets repetitive when used to describe scenes. A bit heavy on tropes (smart man motivated by gorgeous wife, tempted by beautiful companion-in-crisis, etc.) but the story moved on fast enough to let things slide. The premise is wild and thought-provoking, making this an entertaining read.

Cool book with an even more interesting concept… what if you could see a world where things went different. This books gives you a story of grief and longing for what could have been. As a man searches for a way back home he knows.

Was an amazing story of humanly with a lot of physics that‘s not that hard to understand

Jason, a physics professor finds himself in one moment making his family dinner to being abducted and shoved into a parallel world that is not his own. He finds out that a version of himself has created a way to access the multiverse where he both exists and doesn‘t in trillions of different parallel worlds. This book was brilliant and the butterfly effect/Schrödinger‘s cat vibes made for an epic read!

Dark Matter is a sci-fi action-adventure flick in book form. Unfortunately, action storylines *really* aren‘t my thing, no matter what format they‘re in. My chances of liking this better as a movie would‘ve been higher, though, especially if it were a visually stunning film with a killer soundtrack. As it stands, the only appreciation I can give it is to say that the ending was well-done. It‘s just not the type of writing I want to read. 🤷‍♀️

monalyisha Suspected this might‘ve been snapped up & adapted for the screen. Confirmed that with a quick Google search. I read that Apple+ is making a series this year (2023). I‘m not great with actors but the few I do know seem to‘ve been cast well: Jennifer Connelly as Daniela, Jimmi Simpson as Ryan. I don‘t love that Charlie‘s been aged down. I will probably watch the first episode, at least, out of curiosity. 1y

I really enjoyed the combination of horror elements, physics and a love story all wrapped in one. Jason‘s Doppelgänger forcefully trades worlds, he must fight through the multiverses and multiple Jason‘s to get back to his family: the glue keeping him together. The descriptions, writing style and constant questions kept pulling me in deeper. Intense and thought provoking, worth the hype.

About 2/3 of the way through this book I thought it was running out of steam and basically over bar the wrap-up and couldn't believer how much there was left to go, but then an unexpected twist, which nevertheless perfectly cohered with what had gone before, came and the last third was just as much of an enjoyable ride as the earlier parts of the book had been.
