Heir of Fire
Heir of Fire | Sarah J. Maas
Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien's only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan's Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King's Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan's biggest threat and his own toughest enemy. While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love? This third novel in the Throne of Glass sequence, from New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas, is packed with more heart-stopping action, devastating drama and swoonsome romance, and introduces some fierce new heroines to love and hate. Perfect for fans of The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones.

The ending of this book! Oh my! I really wish I could go into the book and kill the king for the antics he pulled. This installment really offered up so much information on Celeana's past and also added some great characters to the mix. I am so excited to go ahead and start the next book! As soon as I started reading this book, I could not believe how much I missed reading about these characters.

Now on to Queen of Shadows!

TheSpineView I just started this one. I am loving the series! 1d

#UnpopularOpinion But this was a bad book, people. 😒 It was like a B-Movie. It took forever to finish it despite the fact that I listened on audiobook. Overuse of disgusting words like carrion, husk, rotting, vomit etc. A bunch of very unlikeable new characters + an extremely boring storyline that‘s going nowhere= a recipe for disaster 😖 If the next book is anything like this one, then I‘ll be in danger of not finishing this series.

HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain I think I‘m hate-reading this series just like you did 😫 I CANNOT with how utterly terrible this book was. It‘s the worst book I‘ve read all year and almost put me in a reading slump!! Seriously if the 4th book is even remotely like this then I can‘t do it anymore 😫 lol (edited) 2mo
sprainedbrain Checking my notes, the first 3 were all so-so or pan for me, but 4th book I marked as a pick. It‘s been a while, though, so I can‘t tell you if it was actually better or if I was just finally numb to all of the stupid stuff. 😬 As much as I liked the ACOTAR series, I don‘t think Maas will ever be a favorite author of mine because of this series. I just never liked the main character, and the story is ridiculously drawn out. 2mo
sprainedbrain Honestly, I would have stopped after 2 books if I hadn‘t already owned the first 6 books on Audible. I accumulated them all during sales back in the day and then I just had to listen to them. 😂 2mo
See All 12 Comments
sprainedbrain I will say, the last 2 were my favorites... but again, I never really liked our hero. That makes it hard! 2mo
HOTPock3tt I don‘t like her either!!! Isn‘t the main character supposed to be appealing in some way? I can‘t even root for her because she‘s so obnoxious. You know how much I ADORE ACOTAR, but I agree: this series makes it impossible for me to consider Maas as one of my fave authors. @sprainedbrain (edited) 2mo
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain I wonder if by the time a person gets to the 4th book: Your brain is probably about to ooze through your ears from all the stupidity that by then, anything she writes that is marginally better would look good! 🤣🤣🤣 (edited) 2mo
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain I wonder if that is the secret to the popularity of this series: it‘s so bad at times that you just have to discuss it and how you survived it kind of like a battle scar 🤔 2mo
HOTPock3tt @sprainedbrain I‘m joking, but do you think that may be be some of it? 🤔 any press good or bad is still press... maybe ppl continuously talking about it (good or bad) brings it so much attention that people check it out due to curiosity 🤔 2mo
sprainedbrain I think you may be right, though... I know the reviews on GRs for these books made me wonder if some of them even read them, or just blindly adore the series since they‘ve invested the time. 😂 2mo
sprainedbrain I just cannot get over how much I dislike the MC though. The ones I ended up liking in the end were not who I would have expected. It also annoys me how Maas always wants to pair everyone off like she does. I mean, what are the odds that everyone is going to find their freaking soulmate in a relatively small group of characters? Ok. I‘m done ranting for the morning. 😂 2mo
HOTPock3tt Everything you said is true though! I wondered the same thing about the GR‘s reviews. I think when some people like an author they just rate everything they ever write with 4 or 5 stars... without evaluating the quality of the actual work... @sprainedbrain 2mo
HOTPock3tt I was actually unnerved by how much I can‘t stand the MC. She is obnoxious+ arrogant and cocky for NO REASON while she gets beat up 🙄I usually LOVE characters who are arrogant and cocky but they have to be appealing at the same time. In the famous words of @Eggbeater “I have to LIKE that I don‘t like them” and I can‘t stand her 😖 @sprainedbrain also I know what you mean about the pairing off. For example 6 ppl and they all end up together 🙄 (edited) 2mo

Well summer ended for me on Friday so here‘s one last summery book thought: I saw a teen reading Heir of Fire in an elevator on our vacation two weeks ago. I told her that the next book was my favorite and she looked at me like I was a crazy person. By the end of the week, I ran into her again and she was halfway through Queen of Shadows. She may still believe I‘m just an elevator weirdo, but I applaud her summer reading nonetheless.

So...I went from rereading the first TOG because my husband was reading it...to a full series reread 😂 I‘ve read ACOTAR three times, so I guess it was only a matter of time before I tackled this one again. I love having a familiar world and familiar characters to come back to in between reading new books. And now that I know the ending, I can pay more attention to all the details 😄

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5/5)

It took me several months to finish this bad boy, but it was worth it in the end. This book was just as or even more heart-wrenching than the previous books in the series, and the tides have definitely turned by the end of this novel. We also are introduced to new badass characters that I‘m sure will play a major part in the series down the road. On to the next one!

This was all about character growth and I loved it! All our main people face new decisions and face parts of their past that they are forced to overcome throughout the entire book which was absolutely wonderful! We were also introduced to my two current favs, Aedion and Rowan. The expansion on the magic in this book is probably my favorite thing by far.

This book dragged but overall I like where the story is headed. I enjoyed the addition of Manon and Abraxos, and, to a lesser degree, Rowan. I also liked the ending. However, for a book of over 600 pages, not much happens. It‘s a lot of character development and set up. The writing isn‘t good enough to get away with this length and so little action. I‘m hopeful that the next book in the series is more exciting. #dogsoflitsy #loki #petsoflitsy

She's my hero! 🖤💙💚💪🤩
I really am just so lost within this series. I love these books so very much. I am so grateful Throne of Glass was put in my hands. Made a difficult situation bearable. 🖤 I've been slowing down and reading other books so it's not over so soon. 😂 I wonder... Is ACOTAR just as good?

Bookgirl I‘m reading this series after ACOTAR series and trying to understand why this one is so popular! It‘s good, but ACOTAR is amazing. 8mo
SmartSassery @Bookgirl I haven't read ACOTAR yet. I was introduced to the author by the DC Icon series. I liked her so I started on her older series first. I love it because I don't typically love the main character in books. So the characters I love aren't usually in the majority of the story. This one is! I've been so excited (except with Tower of Dawn - Different main characters.) 8mo
Bookgirl @SmartSassery ACOTAR series has several main or semi-main characters and they are all amazing! So far I‘m not nearly as invested in the TOG characters 8mo
SmartSassery @Bookgirl Well ACOTAR is on my list too. Let's just hope I love it just as much. Hopefully you'll end up loving TOG too. 😉 🖤 I hear mixed reviews for both. I love listening to everyone about the two series and the characters. Hehehe. 8mo

Significantly better than the first two! Action immediately! This was character development was significantly deeper & more enjoyable to read. Yes, Celaena was quite angsty, but it isn't anything new if you are familiar with YA lit.

I do enjoy drawing the parallels between Celaena and Feyre from ACOTAR. Their character development is quite similar, even if Celaena's is much more drawn out

So I tend to really enjoy Maas‘s stories once I‘ve gotten into them, but man can her writing drive me crazy! How can the water taste new and ancient? Also I‘m sure ancient water tastes bad, not good. It just makes me think of stale water. And why doesn‘t her editor pick up some of this stuff? Do they just go “yeah this sounds pretty” and that‘s that? Love the stories, don‘t love the nonsensical descriptions.

Nessavamusic She is a young writer. I‘d blame the editor on that one. 13mo
