#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.19-21: interesting about Aedion. I was pleasantly surprised that he‘s been playing the King for years. Although how did he pull off not wearing the real ring? Does the king suspect? He‘s playing a dangerous game. And now we know that some wearing the rings don‘t realize they‘re in a club. They are being controlled. ⬇️

StayCurious If anyone is shipping Celaena and Rowan at this early stage - yuck. He‘s such a prick. How did SJM write a heartthrob like Rhysand and also a jerk like Rowan? Even when Rhysand was seemingly the villain I loved him. Sigh. 14h
BarkingMadRead I‘m totally rethinking Aedion now, I didn‘t see that coming. Rowan is such a prick, I cannot see myself ever liking him! 14h
See All 7 Comments
mcctrish All of a sudden Chaol has slightly redeemed himself for noticing the rings and paying attention to details. And yes @BarkingMadRead Aedion is not a total waste of space but @StayCurious Rowan and Rhysand are 2 very different villains, I agree 🖤I loved Rhysand from the start cuz he had banter!!!! 14h
Laughterhp Oh is Rowan supposed to be a love interest for her? I don‘t see it at all… 13h
LiseWorks For some reason, Aedion didn't seem so bad to me. I kind of liked him and knew he was up to something with the disappearing act at parties 13h
Butterfinger I'm with you, @StayCurious I do not like Rowan. I think he should stay a bird. But, on the other hand, Maas writes her characters with unlikeable and honorable traits, so who knows. I like Aedion, but not when he felt jealous over Chaol. Hopefully, I misinterpreted that part. I am wondering, traditionally, healers were/are witches. Could Sorscha be a Cochran? Just one more person to hide Dorian's secret. 8h

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.16-18: The witches take to the skies! It‘s interesting that even amongst each other the ironteeth clans can‘t get along and are already planning to seize power from each other. They really should be worrying about the King. You think he‘s going to let them saunter off with his wyverns after his war, to live as they please? That‘s a hard no. ⬇️

StayCurious Infighting is never a good thing. But I wouldn‘t want to work with the yellowlegs either 😒 do we think Dorian can trust Sorscha with his secret? Who is this friend she writes to outside of the palace? What‘s she hiding? 1d
BarkingMadRead So glad we got a peek at the witches again! Caelena needs to stop pushing people away! And Sorscha and Dorian as a pair make me happy, and she didn‘t tell his secret, so that‘s a plus! 1d
See All 9 Comments
LiseWorks So far, I trust Sorchia, and exactly what made Dorian react like that. And I agree that infighting is not a good thing. 1d
Butterfinger I'm glad we got to see the witches with the wyverns. I agree with @BarkingMadRead C needs friends, but I understand why she is aloof. She loses those she loves OR always seems to be betrayed. I want to pass her parts right now. Hurry and erupt, C. 1d
mcctrish I am here for the witches- they need to assume they will be killed by the king , I trust Sorscha - I hate her superior. How is Chaol not dead yet? 22h
5feet.of.fury I‘m coming around to Sorscha she seems to have good intentions. The witches chapters are the best but I can‘t wait to see what Chaol got himself into. 20h
StayCurious @mcctrish he‘s pretty useless, this is true 15h
Laughterhp I like Sorcha so far. The witches are interesting! You would think they‘d get along, but it seems that will never happen. Oh Chaol.. so unaware. 14h

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.13-15: First - Rowan is kind of a d*ck. I get that trainers are often tough - and he wants Celaena to grow to her full potential (for Maeve, not Celaena) but man. He‘s rough. Second - that creature reminded me of the Bogge in ACOTAR. I wonder if it‘s similar or related in some way. Chaol is playing with fire by putting off his dad. He‘d better watch his step. And just what is Aedion up to?

mcctrish Where. Are. The. Witches? 3d
StayCurious @mcctrish agreed - more Manon! 3d
See All 9 Comments
Butterfinger The training reminds me of Chaol's training, except he was not as abusive. The level of arrogance is the same. I need some action. 3d
BarkingMadRead @mcctrish I am 💯 here for the witches! Rowan is a dick. I wonder if he‘ll grow on me. Probably not 🤷🏻‍♀️ 3d
mcctrish @BarkingMadRead @StayCurious Rowan is a dick, but I‘m also over Celeana‘s shit, she‘d rather get the shit kicked out of her or thrown off a cliff than try 🙄 I wonder if 2 months is enough for Chaol to figure out what is up with Aedion ( he‘s toxic) (edited) 2d
mcctrish @Butterfinger but Celeana is in better shape now than when she came out of prison but it‘s still the same story again 2d
Littlewolf1 Celeana having to relive her trauma is harsh. I wouldn‘t wish that on anybody. She‘s grieving, she feels alone and she‘s been hiding herself for so long that she can‘t trust herself. Rowan is it much help, but I don‘t think he knows how to respond to the situation either. I didn‘t post on the last two day chapters, so I just wanna add that I too really enjoy the chapters with the witches Manon has always been my favorite character. 2d
5feet.of.fury @mcctrish agreeeeee I know she has trauma but she‘s waffling back and forth between snarky badass and a cowering ball of self loathing and picking fights when she could be DOING something 2d

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.10-12: we learn more about the community of Demi-fae where Celaena has been taken to train. Maeve is known to “collect” gifted fae and Demi-fae. What she does with them is a mystery. Maeve will swallow Celaena up once she sees what she can do with her gifts. We also find ourselves back with the witches - all together now. Their numbers have dwindled recently and their magic is limited. ⬇️

StayCurious Will they be able to control these wyvern creatures for the king? I wouldn‘t trust his majesty at all. Hopefully Manon is smart enough to keep an eye out. 4d
BarkingMadRead I don‘t trust any of this! Those wyverns seem terrifying! But Caelena is clean and fed, so that‘s good! And Chaol better watch out! 4d

LiseWorks Those creatures seem to have a mind of their own. 4d
Butterfinger I'm wondering about the duke and the two prisoners. I'm assuming it's Perrington. I really like the 2 cooks. 4d
mcctrish So the witches are where those rings are from, Manon is the sharpest knife in the drawer - and this is the first time I‘m feeling like I remember I read these books before, I know I loved the witches - otherwise I am liking how we got a Chaol chapter, a Celeana chapter and a witch chapter 4d

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.7-9: Celaena is brought before Maeve, her long lost aunt and Fae queen. Considering that Celaena‘s parents were so against Maeve seeing Celaena, I worry this queen is trouble. Rowan has been ordered to train her - he‘s thrilled by the way - and I wonder to what end. Does Maeve want to use Celaena‘s power for her own gains? ⬇️

StayCurious And then we go to the witches who may align themselves with the King of Adarlan - I guess they don‘t care that he‘s evil since it‘ll get them back in the skies. And they‘re not good themselves. Do they realize he‘s the cause of their magic to decline? 5d

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3 Ch.4-6: We meet a couple more new characters in the scary and badass Manon, and the shy healer Sorscha. We also get a look at how Aedion is when it‘s just him and Dorian (he‘s kind of a d*ck). Chaol is keeping his distance from Dorian for his own good- but Dorian feels a bit betrayed and alone. I know it‘s dangerous but I feel like these two need to find a way to talk and work together. ⬇️

StayCurious The king is up to his usual dark tricks so they need to stand together. Celaena is in fairie territory and they seem to know who she really is. It‘s safe to assume Rowan does as well. 6d
BarkingMadRead Omg that with was something else, total scary badass 🤣 6d

LiseWorks The witch sounds like a character to be feared 😨. I feel bad for Dorian. I hope he can trust someone soon 6d
StayCurious @BarkingMadRead @LiseWorks it‘s the iron teeth that get me 😳 6d
BarkingMadRead So creepy, those teeth! 6d
Laughterhp @LiseWorks the witch was so creepy! Just looking to kill everyone! 6d
5feet.of.fury I like Manon, idk about Sorcha 6d
mcctrish On the one hand the witches seem to do the usual healing work that witches have done for centuries but the iron teeth 😬 6d
Littlewolf1 @5feet.of.fury see, I feel like you get me. The first time I read this chapter, I was like, Manon is my girl. And I gotta say, it has not changed one bit. 5d
Butterfinger Manon is scary. She wants to kill the Chrochan??? witches. I can't remember why. Which tribe is evil? Lol. 5d
StayCurious @Butterfinger if I‘m remembering correctly with Baba yellowlegs, I think the iron teeth witches are mortal enemies of the Crochan witches and are trying to wipe them out. Not sure what started the feud. 5d
Roary47 I like that Dorian acknowledged Sorcha as the one that keeps healing him and his friends. I agree the witch was intense. So my thought is Celeana killed a witch not too long ago. Does a witch need to be in the kings employ. Did I miss that explanation while I‘m trying to catch up? 23h

#LittensLoveSJM #ToG Book 3: Ch.1-3: We get right into things with a very downtrodden Celaena in Wendlyn. I think being alone without her friends is dangerous for her. She wallows too much. We meet an interesting new character in the Fae Rowan who is set to take her - probably to his Queen. Good. Make her snap out of her grief. ⬇️

StayCurious Then we catch up with a very stressed out Chaol and Dorian and Celaena‘s cousin, who is also part of the King‘s black ring club. If he is truly as bad as he seems, he has betrayed everything his family stood for. 7d
mcctrish Why is nobody looking into these rings ?!!!!! 7d
See All 13 Comments
StayCurious @mcctrish I know right? Does Dorian notice them? 7d
mcctrish I can‘t remember if he has and now he‘s too busy fretting about his magic - honestly these boys are useless 7d
BarkingMadRead These rings are worrisome, like he uses the rings to control everyone, while they think they‘re in some club. And yikes! How far Celaena has fallen. She needs to get her act together! 7d
Laughterhp Calaena is so depressed right now! Hopefully meeting with the fae snaps her out of it. More black rings!! How many people are in on it?! 7d
LiseWorks Yeah, the ring club is growing, Calaena was getting to me ay the beginning. 7d
Butterfinger @mcctrish the Fae men will get things done. I hope. Two new characters, but I am so glad (I agree, they're useless) that we still have Chaol and Dorian. I was afraid they would fall off the side of the earth. Do you think the rings are compelling (that may be the wrong word) or a symbol of a club? 6d
mcctrish @Butterfinger I think it‘s a control device like the king can zap them or something - Perrington had to be making what‘s her face get headaches with his ( so maybe the king gave Roland headaches with his?) 6d
Littlewolf1 Oh man, Celaena is hurting real bad. You can almost feel how lost she is as she numbs her pain and sadness. @mcctrish the rings almost remind me of the rings of power from Lord of the rings. They‘re given as a gift and it almost feels like people look at them as a symbol of their status and power. A gift that the king has bestowed upon them. Who really pays too much attention to a status symbol. 6d
Read4life Those rings are definitely bad news. Celaena is in a bad way. Hopefully she gets it together before she does something reckless with no one having her back. 6d
Roary47 Oooo @mcctrish That‘s a good thought. They rings controlling them and they get headaches because of it? Hmmm maybe. 23h

This book is so much better than the second in the series, and reminded me why I enjoy SJM. Such a rich depth of character building, from the ones we know the least right up to Celaena. Celaena really processes a lot of grief in this story, and comes to terms with who she really is — in a lot of ways, it‘s her coming of age. Meanwhile, plots and secrets churn all around, with an explosive ending that held lots of surprises. Keen to start the next!

Besides the overkill exposition and similarity in the CaIaena/Chaol and Aelin/Rowan dynamics, I liked this book better than the second book. I think the flipping between characters AND locations is what made this book more dynamic than the first two.

Overall, the story in this one‘s pretty interesting as a sort of “middle of the tale” part of the larger plot, but a touch on the inconsistent side. Also, I wish people who are 100+ years old would make decisions that reflect the weight of their lived experienced, even if they are immortal and/or young for their race.

The great problem with ebook omnibi is that you have only a rough idea how far you are into each individual book. I know I‘m past the 2/3 mark going by the number of chapters, but I‘d have to do a lot of awkward bouncing around through the text to get a sense of what percentage of the book that translates to.

Anyways: I‘m really feeling HEIR OF FIRE now. This series is uneven, but when it‘s on, it‘s on. There‘ve been tears over here and all.

I almost always enjoy Maas‘s books, but I never enjoy them unreservedly, and one of my big issues with her stuff is all the ideas she recycles across series. (Yes, I know, multiverse, but she keeps her pet concepts too similar from book to book. I prefer authors to switch it up more between worlds.) I‘m especially tired of her whole mates obsession. Ditto “females” and “males” for non-human women and men. Calling women “females” is CREEPY, people.

Awesome, awesome book! A lot happens on this one: A lot of character development, history, plot build up for what is to come on the next book. I‘m scared for what will go down but yet excited. TOG is such a magnificent story, and I cannot help but look up to the main character, draw parallels between her challenges and mines, and use her bravery as encouragement to keep going and NOT BE AFRAID.
