Finishing up this #readyourkindle pick and I might describe it as Medieval Nun Assassins? I loved the history and mythology in this world and our FMC Ismene is questioning all she‘s been taught and falling in love. Lots of real historical figures mixed in the story which makes the betrayals all the more horrible! Will definitely read the next in the series. #serieslove2024 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2

This book as been sitting on my shelf for years so I decided to throw it out there for my book club to read this month. I am glad I did. All of us enjoyed it and several of us (myself included) have already binged our way through the rest of the original trilogy.

❐ Overall Rating 4½⭐ | Narration 😀 = Good(ish)
This series has been billed as having assassin nuns...but nuns is not the right term for these girls...handmaidens is much more befitting. Death‘s handmaidens is even more accurate. A kickass medieval story with strong women who actually support other women with a side of romance. ⬇ ⬇

AudiobookingWithLeah Poisonings, political intrigue, and broken betrothals are just some of what you‘ll get with this story...set in Brittany before it was conquered by France...or something like that. 4y

4/5 for this one. This was such great YA fantasy historical fiction. There was so much going on with assassins from a convent and some espionage and a little romance! Ismae is a kick butt character and I loved her! I can‘t wait to read the next book.

I decided to re-read this one on a whim, and I must say that I enjoyed it even more this time. I have only read “Grave Mercy” one other time, but the fast pace of the plot and the well-rounded characters had me finishing this thick book in a matter of days. I can‘t wait to continue this series and explore its world and characters.

I immediately picked this up because of the gorgeous cover. I loved the concept of historical fiction meets fantasy in 15th century Brittany. I definitely enjoyed the book, but I really felt it could have been taken to the next level and been more epic like the Nevernight series which is in a similar vein.

#20Series20Days - #Top20Series - Day 6 (a little behind)

I absolutely loved this trilogy! I loved the first 2 more than the 3rd one but it could have been a timing thing. This is a YA series, but doesn‘t really feel like one.

They are the daughters of death and trained as assassins in a convent. Set in the 15th century Brittany. They go to court and do Mortain‘s bidding. The first 2 books are sooo good!

Lesanne I loved this one too! 4y
Jas16 I really preferred the first two as well. 4y

Femme assassins trained to get back at men for all the terrible sexist things they do? Oh, and they work for Death? Oh, and they also have magical powers? What‘s not to love? A great high fantasy read. Long, but worth it.

I really liked this! A fast, fun historical fiction with court intrigue, a little romance, a touch of magic, and NUN ASSASSINS. Solid writing, an interesting story, appealing characters, and good narration.

Thanks to the always fabulous reviews of @Ashley_Nicoletto for putting this series on my radar.

Book 1 of #24in48 was finished over breakfast bowls and coffee this morning. 😍

I picked this one up off a fellow Littens recommendation that I read this series before Courting Darkness. It does not disappoint. Assassins. Dukedoms. Duchesses. Poison. The daughter of death. I plan to continue on with this series.

4/5 stars!

Beautifully rich and wonderful! The romance was gradual and was not the main driving force of the story, which I really appreciate. The Middle Ages is not typically written about in YA literature, so it was so interesting to see it come to life! There were a few slow parts, but I am so happy I finally decided to pick this one off of my TBR pile!

Killer nuns.

Assassin. Nuns.
To elaborate:
These are nuns. In a convent. Training in hand to hand combat, weaponry and poisons. To kill people. In the name of Death.
This is very YA-historical-fantasy-romanceish. Has moments where it drags and some dialogue is fairly dry, but I liked it. It was an entertaining read.
Besides.....Assassin Nuns! I'll probably continue the series, but not in a hurry.

An assassin trained in a convent dedicated to the god of death… what‘s not to like? I like the figurative chess match between characters. The romantic storyline is a bit predictable. Overall, it‘s not the best book ever but it is an OK read. Better than so-so though. (His Fair Assassin Book 1).

I liked that Ismae started thinking for herself rather than blindly following orders. Really liked how she met father, Death, on the battlefield and learned a new way to serve him. Not bad, and I can see checking out the next book.
