If watching a 1970‘s film that uses saturated Kodachrome and Panovision and not quite A list stars is your thing, then this bit of nostalgic Sci-Fi is for you. This is not steampunk, this is digital museum stuff- full of whirring computers, teletypes and radio waves. I‘m still glad I read it, especially since it won‘t be too long before it is sucked down into the swamp of forgettable books.
I read this for #NSR221 Reads, it is not my favorite genre at all. Too technical and I am not very good at understanding science. I do like books that deal with the world ending though. @Nessavamusic This is a Hard Sci-fi.
I expected this to be way better. It was slow, with little to no action, and read more like a technical manual than a suspense/thriller. Maybe it was good for it‘s time (1969)? I‘m willing to forgive things for being out dated, ohh boy the computers were, but there were still no characters to root for or even care about. And the ending… well… it felt like the author just wanted the book done too🧫🧬🥼

Friend recommend me to read Michael Crichton, got to say it was pretty enjoyable and a really fast read! Definitely a page turner once it starts going. Little unsatisfied with the ending but appreciated the science it was pretty cool. Overall I would recommend it since it was such a quick read and the science seems pretty solid.
[granite] “This is alive. It is living, breathing, walking, and talking. Only we cannot see it, because it is happening too slowly. Rock has a lifespan of three billion years. We have a lifespan of sixty or seventy years. We cannot see what is happening to this rock for the same reason that we cannot make out the time on a record being played at the rate of one revolution every century.” -
It was good but not his best, very dry with a lackluster ending. Still kept my interest but wasn‘t that enjoyable
Sibling book club pick for February is another Michael Crichton book! I loved the last of his I read and have a feeling I‘ll love this one too 👽
I may never finish these engine updates but I did finish this book!! Crichton writes such gripping sci-fi. The science is good without being overly technical. The fiction is astoundingly realistic and engaging. A great book to give you some alien heebie-jeebies. 👽👽👽👽👽
Running some engine updates to cover for a colleague this morning. Update 1/8 has been running for an hour already. Looks like I get time with my books and coffee this morning! I feel like I‘m beginning to get my reading groove back. 🙌🏻
Finished my second book of the year. Loved the story overall but the ending has me less then pleased. All of that for ...nothing!?!

First read Andromeda Strain many moons ago, after I'd read Jurassic Park in ninth grade and fallen in love with Crichton's writing. At the time, I wasn't as enamoured of Andromeda. It's coming up on three decades, and I have a greater appreciation for it now. It's one of Crichton's earliest works. Fascinating to see the growth of a writer from early works to becoming well-established. As a writer, and more seasoned reader, I can appreciate this!
🎧 do you remember the 1971 movie!? I loved that movie & would watch it whenever it came on tv late at night. The movie follows the book pretty closely. It‘s a short book at about 8 hours & the narration is good. It‘s pretty sciencey/medically for 1971. This author also wrote Jurassic Park! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I was somewhat disappointed with this. I listened to the audiobook, and thought several times that it sounded like a documentary. There was a lot of explaining the science and very little action. And the ending was abrupt and anticlimactic. On the positive side, the science of the story was interesting and, I imagine, quite radical for a 1969 audience. #audiobook #audible #scifi
Started listening to this today. #audiobook #audible #scifi
Though I enjoyed this book, I felt like it had an abrupt ending. Perhaps I spaced out listening to the audiobook...
#SongsOfSummer The Andromeda Strain was published in the #SummerOf69

In #Contagion TNG epi 3.11 we learn Picard is an archeologist, Iconians could cross light-years as easily as we cross a room, computer viruses are bad, and Starfleet doesn‘t practice network prophylactics. Also featuring Toronto‘s City Hall.
As such, the only Michael Crichton book I like is The Andromeda Strain. Again, as with all his books, the film is better (the 1st film, 1971; the 2008 film is baaaaaaad).

This book has been on my TBR list for years. I finally got around to reading. I liked that it was heavy on the science... even more so than The Martian. Therefore, this book is not for everyone one. It was a bit dry and read in places like a text book. Because I found the subject fascinating I didn't mind. The whole idea that aliens might try to contact us through a virus. Very imaginative and well researched. 4 stars... but
I have been audio puzzling and listening to the tagged book. Audio coloring next!
Audible put a lot of daily deals back on sale. I grabbed thes two 🐿️

The entire book made it seem like something horrible happened when in reality, nothing ever did. Crichton is a fine writer, just not for me.
We just finished reading The Andromeda Strain together. The book gave the feel akin to being in a science class at many points, but managed to stay interesting and kept us flipping the pages in anticipation. We were a bit disappointed by the ending, but overall this book was really good. We gave three out of five stars.
Snuggled up with John reading the Andromeda Strain. Fuzzy pants, our adopted cat sleeping nearby, and snacks. The perfect night.
Reading this book together with my wonderful bf ❤️
We just got to chapter 5 and can‘t wait to see what happens. Chapter three was a little science heavy for me but still hooked so far on this novel.
Managed to finish off Skulduggery, and got through the first chapter in the 2nd book. About a third of the way through the tagged book... and that wraps up my 24 hours 😎
Finished 3 books: one audio book that I'd already started, and two print (one already started and one reread)
And now I'm going to sleep because my eyes are really tired! ❤🧡💛 #24B4Monday @TheReadingMermaid
Ps. It's 2 minutes to midnight, so perfect timing to finish up 😊
Just finished The Andromeda Strain and I loved it! I am also not ashamed to say that some parts of the book were too technical for me to understand. Especially, the medical tests and their results, don‘t be afraid to have google open while you are reading. If you have an interest in Biology, Virology, Pathology, Chemistry, Medicine, Engineering...basically everything hard-science you‘ll love this book. Finished this up in about a day.
Over halfway done my practicum! I had one call back for a job and many more to apply for. Trying to stay confident. The penguin was a gift from my daughter. Really getting into this epic sci-fi classic. When is break time?
Read this for the second time for book club. Not as good as I remember his other works being, but definitely still enjoyable.
This was a fun and fast-paced read that kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I felt like I was watching a movie the entire time I was reading, which made the book hard to put down! IS THE WORLD DOOMED OR NOT?!? 😱🤣 I highly recommend this to any Sci-fi/fantasy fans whom want a page-turning thriller to keep them occupied!

This book is a real whiplash for me. I remember like Jurassic Park, but Crichton‘s first book was just boring for me. https://youtu.be/sfp2jcy7q2A
Trying to read my book for #bookclub but someone had other plans... 😸❤️

There are two scenes in the beginning of this novel that kept me going because they were goosebump good. And I kept waiting for that intensity to come back throughout the rest of the book, and it just didn't happen. The characters are wooden, so I didn't care when anything bad happened to any of them. And the science. Oh, dear god, the science. I've never read a fiction book so full of charts, graphs, memos, equations... Ugh, no. Snooze.
I can‘t decide if I should bail on this one!The science is killing me. Sometimes the lectures go on for five or ten pages. There are even charts and graphs! I do enjoy the parts where actual plot is happening. The characters are boring. I need advice, Littens! Is it worth my time to stick it out? I should add I read Jurassic Park and Lost World MANY years ago, and I remember feeling exactly the same! But I did finish them and did not enjoy them.
I always enjoy Michael Crichton books! This was a quick and exciting read about a group of scientists studying an extraterrestrial microorganism that comes to Earth. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A lovely friend from another state cleaned out her bookshelf and sent me some of her discards. Woo hoo for new (to me) books!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Finally finished The Andromeda Strain. It was very sciencey science fiction with some really good suspenseful moments.
It took me a little while to get into this book, but now I'm really enjoying it 💚
Honestly this was one of the most engaging books I've read in a long time. Loved it, can't wait to read more!!
I'm thoroughly enjoying this book. I don't know what it is but I love a good plague story. Also I love it when books have graphics like these in them.
When you are half an hour early to work but it's all okay because you have a massive new book to read ☺️ I am still reading Raven, but it's definitely a little heavy for first thing in the morning. This is only my second Micheal Crichton, but I'm excited to see where it goes!
This one of my favourite #Scifi stories (book & film)
It seamlessly blends the what if with the what is (circa 1970)
The film script is full of diagrams, notations & extensive notes for the actors and crew. It is a work of art in itself.
Go have a look, you won' be disapointed
