(2018) It's a web comic about a college hockey team. It's cute, humorous, and sometimes affecting. Also a target of book bans because gay characters exist; or maybe because they sometimes say the F-word. So, trigger warning for potty mouth I guess but if you can get over that it's great fun.

Read #BannedBooks !

This was lovely, I enjoyed it far more than I expected to enjoy a webcomic (no I didn't know what that was either, Google it) about college ice hockey. The characters are very likeable, and the friendships between them are very sweet.

Former figure skater turned college hockey player, Bitty vlogs and tweets his way through college life as a gay, pie baking fiend and life with his hockey bros. I thought this was a good story of college life and athletes. Another popular book in the challenged books saga.

Everything ran so smoothly I didn‘t actually have time to read 😉

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Leftcoastzen, the Australian government has decided I‘m too young to get the only vaccine they bothered to buy... so it‘s probably a long wait for me (late 2021/early 2022). My grandparents are getting it next week - which is excellent. 4y
CarolynM I can't believe how incompetent the Feds have been re the vaccine (no, actually I can... grrr! 😡) but at least we only have limited exposure to the virus while we wait. 4y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @CarolynM, it‘s a low bar at this point but they do seem to be struggling 😡 hopefully we stay with only limited exposure, another long lockdown would be devastating. 4y

Has a Canadian, where hockey's our cult, I saw myself laughing at every single one of the hockey references. I've spent my childhood at the arena and it was so fun to see that in a story. The romance was adorable but, my favorite parts were the explanation of hockey terminology because they are 100% true!

Loved this comic - so much so I went and read the webcomic to finish the story and I have added it to things I will treat myself to when I have spare money! This volume is the first two years of uni told from the point of view of Bitty - a gay, baking loving, ice-hockey player, history major. It‘s about growing up - finding yourself, your friends and your way. A warm and cosy hug of a book.

This was really cute and fun. I like how the author differentiated all the guys on the hockey team. Loved the main character Bitty, a short player on the team who also loves baking and social media. The fact that he is gay is not a central part of the book but his teammates are all cool when he comes out to them, which is awesome. I‘ll have to read the hard copy some day so I can appreciate the illustrations at their full size. Will def read #2!

After grandpa died in 2018, this little graphic novel about a baking hockey player helped me escape the real world for just a little while.

1. We Didn't Start the Fire by Billy Joel - enjoy the throwback video. https://youtu.be/eFTLKWw542g

2. Audiobooks since I'm reluctantly back in the office full time. I got used to reading more at home.

Such a fun comic about hockey bros, being accepted for who you are, growing up, and learning to let others in. The cast of characters is so fun and often surprising and it's fantastic to see an LBGTQ main character where that is clearly displayed as a piece of his identity but the only piece of who he is. Now to find out if book 2 is out yet! :)

Hits close to home, while coming out was easy for me other times it‘s not. Every time I mention my fiancé, it‘s always assume I‘m talking about a man. Sometimes I don‘t correct people for fear that they are anti homosexuality, while this may be wrong I have been treated unfairly in the past . The world is a lot more open now it is still scary to show your true self. Im trying to read more #lgbt books this year and try to stand up for my truth

Panic70 Im glad you felt comfortable enough to share here on Litsy. Being vulnerable builds relationships and community. I‘m not a huge fan of the romance genre, but if you would recommend some books I‘d like to give them a try. I would like to read more #ownvoices books. 5y
MissAimz_55 If you like graphic novels this is a great one and the Romance is very minimal. I‘m actually increasing my lgbt reading this year so I‘ll keep you updated. Thank you. I‘ll post a few books below that I‘ve heard great things about but haven‘t yet read and also thank you! 5y

This was a super cute comic about a vlogger, figure skater turned hockey player named Eric and his first couple of years at college. He happens to be gay and loves to bake. Super adorable. You get the camaraderie, the house life, the parties, the bro-life, the fights, the hockey. Good for cleansing the palette. Thanks again @quietjenn for the book!!!

Well. I can't believe I read a comic book about hockey (and pies, and boys in love), but here we are. It was cute. It was funny. It was occasionally kinda heartbreaking too. The way the story was told made it slightly hard to follow, many major events were only told afterwards. But I will be continuing with this story, whenever the next book comes out. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ngozi Ukazu (above) initially created a webcomic about Bitty, a former figure skater who plays on a college hockey team. He‘s also gay, a vlogger, has a passion for baking pies, & says goodness gracious rather than swearing. His teammates‘ language is more along the lines of getting “bitch-ass shitfaced.” And yet. There‘s true teamwork, on & off the ice. I love the relationships & the uplifting mix of realism & idealism. #LGBTQ #graphicnovel

bookishkai I adore Check Please and I‘m beyond thrilled to see it getting love outside the web. When I first read it, she‘d only written two years of it, and I don‘t know what I expected except all my Glee fandom peeps were like, “read this comic even if you don‘t like hockey”. So I did. And wound up crying into my iPad at midnight. 6y
