I moved this book up the food chain because a student in my YAL class called it “disgusting” and I had to know what in the heck she was talking about. This is an excellent coming-of-age story set in 1930. 16 year old Thea is sent to the riding camp for some offence which is revealed in fits and starts. She is a girl coming to terms with her own power and I loved spending time with her. Not YA and not disgusting in any way.

LeahBergen I liked this one and don‘t remember anything “disgusting” about it at all? 🤔 8mo

While I enjoyed the setting of this book in a riding camp/school for girls in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina during the Great Depression, I didn‘t feel a connection to the main character. Her actions were often questionable and she did not have much sympathy for those adversely affected by her decisions. At least it was my Y book for #LitsyAtoZ2019.

I loved this coming-of-age story! It takes place at the start of the Great Depression in North Carolina. Thea Atwell is banished to riding camp but why remains a mystery through much of the story. I liked the main character & waiting to see if she could grow from her mistakes. My favorite part though was the horseback riding!

This book was actually between a so-so and a pan for me. I loved the setting, as the author takes us back and forth between Florida and North Carolina, slowly revealing Thea's story. I just couldn't connect with any of the characters. I found them lacking in depth and boring.

This takes another one off my TBR list from long ago and marks off my letter Y for #LitsyAtoZ @BookishMarginalia

The Depression. Teenage Thea is sent away to boarding school after being caught in a romantic transgression. She struggles with being abandoned by her family and the shame she feels for her behavior.

This is a struggle for me to review because my feelings are mixed. I loved the setting, time period, and plot. I felt it meandered too much. I felt there was a disconnect. By the end I was skimming some paragraphs. #booked2018 #setatschool

emilyhaldi Ugh, so frustrating when a book leaves you skimming at the end 😏 6y
Cinfhen Oooh, this book was on the bargain table yesterday and I took a pass - so now I‘m feeling like I earned a $5 credit towards a new book 😜 helpful review!!! 6y
Cathythoughts I agree @emilyhaldi that is a very frustrating feeling ... after getting so far , only to skim 😡 6y

Starting a book that has been on my "should read" list for a bit. The Yonahlossee Riding Camp For Girls; I've heard good things, I've heard less than good things, and that's something I love about reading: when you get drawn in by the premise of a book you as the reader get to make up your mind about it. Differing opinions be damned. That being said, I would still love to hear your thoughts!

4🌟This book is for any woman who has navigated those treacherous waters of being sexy on the cute/pretty/sexy spectrum as a teen. Or anyone who likes horses. Or anyone who appreciates a good sex scene.

Cool aside: Anton rode on the equestrian team at Emory that my friend founded!

I'm doing pretty well reading a print book even though text is still swimming online and in print due to meds!

The narration on Perfect Little World is perfection, and the story is good too.

Rainn's book is actually a funny entry into the #ArmchairAudies #humor category, but will it win?

I do believe that the decisions we make today inform and shape our futures. This book tells that story threw the decisions Thea makes during her 15th year. Sometimes careless and selfish, sometimes loving and self sacrificing. Always dedicated to her love of riding and her horses. In several places you want to warn her not to chose that path but...the build is slow, the "crime" predictable and the outcome a bit sad.

"This iced tea was thick and syrupy, and, I had to admit, delicious. Years later I'd crave this iced tea, its cool weight on my tongue, the bitterness of the strong tea offset by the copious amounts of sugar; I'd learn that to miss the Yonahlossee sweet tea was something of a tradition among us."

I'm unsure whether or not to buy. There is not much in the Litsy archives. (Money is tight right now or else I'd definitely spring for it.) I liked but didn't love The After Party.

Megabooks @catieohjoy @MMF @LeahBergen @LitHousewife @Stephanie-Anne @rubyslippersreads @Suzze I've decided to put it off for now and see if my library will get it. Stephanie-Anne @Ebooksandcooks I was going to say that this would be a good one to borrow from the library. 😉 8y
Kaye I listened to this on audio and really enjoyed it. Very "different " type of book but it held my interest. 8y
MMFinck I bet it'll be at your library. Pretty darn sure. (I tot understand about not wanting to buy it only to have it sit on your kindle unread. I bought a whole series at the beginning of the summer. Unread still. Ugh.) :) 8y
