3.5/5⭐ I liked the magic aspects, and many turns in the competition had a wonderful magical feel with fantastic descriptions. However, the love triangle annoyed me, and the necessity of the competition felt forced for plot reasons. I'm curious to see how it all resolves in the sequel.

Hi all!! I‘m searching for the Danish edition of this book, that I can have shipped to the US without it costing a mortgage note. Evelyn (the author) actually noted that I was looking for these copies and generously offered to send me a spare copy of the Danish edition of the second book, but she never received copies of the first, so she is looking to find them, as well. I thought you guys might be able to help us out! @okthislooksbad Any ideas??

My two current obsessions. I'm really enjoying both of them, I haven't read any ghost stories in a long time, so I'm pleasently surprised with the Gothic Fantasy collection and I love how Crown's Game weaves Russian culture into its fantasy narrative, it's like historical fiction - with magic!

You guys...just...pain. I really enjoyed the book though.

I had heard many mixed reviews about this book, so I was hesitant to read it. But, I ended up loving it. There were a few things here and there that I didn‘t really like, but I‘m honestly glad I gave it a chance and I‘m impatiently waiting for my copy of book 2 to arrive!

I enjoyed The Crowns Game but I didn‘t love it, it felt a little confused to me, like it was trying to be too many things at once. I got a Very Night Circus meets Cinderella meets Romeo and Juliet vibe. I gave it 4 stars for the enjoyment.

Poorly executed and underdeveloped. Gave it a go hoping for the best, but it didn‘t live up to my standards.

Wow it had been a while since I‘ve been on here. College has kept me busy that‘s for sure. Hope everyone on here has had a great summer!

I absolutely loved The Crown's Game! The magic was amazing, I adored the characters and it was really unique and original. It's a must-read for every fantasy fan, and I can't wait to read the next book. Plus, I mean, they're gorgeous. What booklover doedn't have a weakness for a beautiful hardback?

Have been wanting to read this for ages - so glad I managed to pick it up

Thank goodness for audiobooks!! Unlike my plans for knitting this morning, which are shot to hell, my reading can go forth with little interruption.

I try to start Crown's Game on audio while photographing stock and my Bluetooth headphones start yelling "BATTERY LOW" three minutes in.

Then I gain a non-helping helper.

Sigh. I think it is time to take a break and go fix another cup of coffee.

This series is so magical and enchanting! The world building, character development and magical elements are all so wonderful and made me love this series!

I really enjoyed these books! 1800's Russia with a magical game to the death. Lots of fun! And I got to meet the author Evelyn Skye a few weeks ago. She was so nice and gave more insight to the story and her writing making it that much better!

I absolutely adore The Crown's Game. If you like magic, Russia, royalty, a lovely romance subplot, and detailed historical references (this book is very well researched trust me) - I highly recommend it!

And its sequel is AMAZING TOO!!!

Which pretty much sums up my feelings on the book. Nice, easy writing and an intriguing idea. But the plot felt... I don't know.. a bit uninspired? And don't get me started on the magic aspect. I'm giving the sequel a chance because I liked the characters (and I own it).

This was the book that finally got me out of my slump! I loved it! I hate that I waited so long to read it. On the upside, the sequel will be here today so I can get started on it!

Went to a wedding shower an hour away that had a tea party theme. I don't know if I was more excited about the tea or when I realized there was a Barnes and Noble across the street! 😍 This has been on my TBR list. I needed something until my preordered comes in. (A court of wings and ruin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I really enjoyed this one. Didn't love the end, but all in all I like it.

Put simply, I read this 400 page book in one sitting over about 7 hours...Couldn't put it down...Plus the physical book is so beautiful!

Omg this book made me feel! I love Nikolai so much...And I want to kill Pasha's sister and...Kinda high five Nikolai's mom. This book appeased the historical fiction lover, the former history student, romance lover and magic lover in me! 😘😘😘 Super excited for the sequel to come out!
