Great quote I just saw again
I‘m at work today so I am only able to focus on that so I‘ll borrow my favorite title “Nichole & the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day”. I love my job but the public can wear me down if I‘m not prepared.
Tagged book is an example of the woman of God I‘d like to respond like in ALL situations … Corrie Ten Boom
@Ash.on.the.line Want to play? @Eggs I was going to pass but I‘ll expose myself with honesty.
#ReadAway2024 #NonFiction2024 MAUS is the fiction prompt and this is my nonfiction selection. #TBRTarot Choose a book whose author‘s name begins with C. This is a heartbreaking yet joyful book about the experiences of one of the leaders of the Dutch Underground during WWII.
This is the memoir of Corrie Ten Boom, a Dutch Christian woman who hid Jews during World War II with the help of her family. The Nazis ultimately discovered what they were doing and sent them and their father to concentration camps. She was an amazing woman who survived and went on to devote her life to philanthropic work and Holocaust education after the war. She also forgave those who betrayed, imprisoned, and tormented her. Powerful story!
PART 1: 2020 was a tumultuous year in a lot of ways, but it included some great books. I always exclude rereads from my favorites list, though there were many excellent comfort reads I returned to this year.
Here are my top ten favorites, in no particular order:
- The Hiding Place
- Heroes & Mythos
- Anxious People
- Clap When You Land
- The Searcher
.... continued.
Our Pandemic Pages virtual book club read this recently and we all felt a little floored that we hadn‘t read it until now. Such a powerful story of strength and faith during even the hardest of trials. The bravery of Corrie and her family is astounding but the wisdom shared about trusting in God despite what we face is what will stick with me.
Catching up after getting back from vacation this week. So many great books last month!
I can‘t overstate the power of this book. It‘s the true story of a woman who hid Jews in her Holland home during WWII. Despite the danger that meant for her family, she defied the Nazi rulers & stood for what was right. Her unbelievable bravery in the midst of persecution was so humbling. I couldn‘t put it down. I loved how honest she was about her moments of doubt and frustration. I was blown away by the risks she was willing to take for others.
“Worry does not empty tomorrow if it‘s sorrow, but empties today of it‘s strength.”
This book is amazing but really sad I would highly recommend it
Not going on my list for this genre. I think it was more the narrator than the story. Corrie and her family were some of the brave people in Holland to help and hide Jews and other “undesirables”. She survived Ravensbrück.
I would have liked to know more about her post war. It also felt less like Corrie‘s story and more about her sister‘s visions and unfaltering faith.

Started this today. So far there has only been 1 gut punch moment that made my eyes sweat. I‘m sure there will be more, there always is with books of this subject.
The current book for my f2f bookclub.

This book details the incredible efforts of the ten Boom family in hiding Jews in Holland during WWII. I am astounded at the courage and faith this family exhibited. Although the content could be hard to read at times, God's love and grace shown through it all. It has brought new perspective and has encouraged me greatly in my own walk with the Lord.
#letstravelaugust This is one of my favorite books—in it, the ten Boom family gives #shelter to those needing to hide from the Nazi regime!
This true story about a family preserving in love and faith during the occupation in Holland during World War II is one of my favorites yet! I often paused while reading this book to reflect on the horrors, the goodness, the joy, the fear and the experiences of all of the characters and am amazed at the work of my awesome God in such a deep darkness.
5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So my word for this year is “Fearless”. Fear is something I‘ve struggled with forever, so I‘m reading/listening to books of Fearless characters and man was this a good one to start with! I have always had a fascination with the Nazi regime and concentration camps, but I didn‘t know anything about Holland during that time! Truly a Fearless story if I‘ve ever read one!
Thank you so much @CBee That was such a wonderful and thoughtful gift! Such an important part of our collective history that we need to encourage people to read and remember, so that hopefully history will not forget and repeat itself.

"How should a Christian act when evil was in power?"
So relevant to me in this age in which I live. When the people I love embrace wrongdoing; am I the only one who sees the difference between right and wrong?

Small haul from a library book sale over the weekend.
Excellent book. Very sad story and somewhat hard to read bc of the sadness, but wonderful!!! So encouraging & inspiring!!! This lady is my hero!
An emotionally inspiring true to life story from Ten Boom sisters. I wish to visit their house in the future which is now operating as a museum.

“Perhaps only when human effort had done it's best and failed, would God's power alone be free to work.”
I'm trying to read down my physical tbr list to make room for others. As I finish they get donated to my favorite thrift store that gives away free books. Unless it becomes a favorite which I will keep. I am enjoying this one so far.
A quote from the autobiography of Corrie ten Boom, a very active member of the Dutch Resistance during World War II. She and her family hid Jews in their home. She was arrested and eventually sent to Ravensbruck concentration camp along with her sister, Betsie. Betsie has an incredible amount of faith in the Bible and it was helpful for me to read how she applied it and how it sustained her during such a dark time. A must read. #resist
Listening to this book while this little hot water bottle sleeps on me. She‘s not very interested in lying on a bed. The value of holding a big warm bundle of innocence while listening to this true story of resistance against evil can not be overstated.
Still holds true today!
It‘s finally cooled off so I can do a little bit of reading outside on the porch! Starting this for my IRL Bookclub #FriendsWithBooks

“Perhaps only when human effort had done its best and failed, would God‘s power alone be free to work.” Corrie Ten Boom, The Hiding Place 📚
Been so many years since I‘ve read this but picked by book club this month. If memory serves me it was a good read?
Found another WWII/Holocaust read. Has anyone else read this? HAPPY FRIDAY! 😃😃😃
I read this in Junior High, and still remember the most powerful scene of #forgiveness that I could imagine, when one of her Nazi captors/guards shows up at an event where she was speaking. #MagicalMarch @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @vkois88
“My little hobby. Book collecting. And yet, old friend, books do not age as you and I do. They will speak still when we are gone, to generations we will never see. Yes, the books must survive.”
Finally got to read some more of The Hiding Place while my little man had a minor procedure done this morning! All went well, and were on our way home. & oh my goodness how I love this book so much already! Can‘t wait to get home and read some more! #hidingplace #corrietenboom
Another unknown-to-me title for #novemberbythenumbers. Book by corrie #ten Boom
Corrie was a Dutch watchmaker who became a heroine of the Resistance, a survivor of Hitler's concentration camps, and one of the most remarkable evangelists of the twentieth century. she and her family risked their lives to help Jews and underground workers escape from the Nazis. Only Corrie survived to tell the story of how faith triumphs over evil - from back cover
