Read this while on a couple train rides. One to Dover and back; one to Oxford and back. I really enjoy this series and the characters.

This was another fine book by this author. I sure hope there is another because there kind of was a cliffhanger. There is nothing like a female badass! Book 2 of this series. #SeriesLove23 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView with great liberty,
I found 2 more bingos spots on #ISpyBingoJune @Clwojick @TheAromaofBooks
Another amazing book! I liked this one more than the first one, I felt that the pacing was better.

This year I discovered how much I love Rebecca Roanhorse's writing. I read these three books plus four of her short stories and adored them all. Looking forward to reading more from her.
I liked this! Not quite as much as Trail of Lightning, because the pacing was much rougher for me with this one. I still enjoyed revisiting the setting and the characters. Now, where‘s book three?
Yesterday was a LONG day but I did manage to read Storm of Locusts which was just as good as Trail of Lightning!
Another solid book by Rebecca Roanhorse. I really enjoyed this one, I think I even liked it more than the first book. I especially loved the dynamic between the main character and the other two women. The last chapter sets up what the next book in the series will be about. Now I'm just sitting here waiting for that to be announced.
I don‘t think this is quite as good as Trail of Lightning, but it comes pretty close. I think Roanhorse needs to work on her timing and pacing a little, but she‘s great at weaving together complex actions scenes and dynamic characters. 8/100, 5⭐ Loved this sequel! I think I liked it even more than the first one. There were even more interesting and entertaining characters, a great plot line and such believable events. This author is now an instant buy for me. I read both books on Kindle using my library app but I will be buying copies of my own to keep forever. And the ending set up the next book which now I will be very impatiently waiting for!
Had to start this sequel after finishing the first one this morning. 40% done already. Enjoying some outside time now that the temperature is warmer. (Warmer meaning 50°F instead of 28°F 😅)
Maggie is back, on a search for a super-creepy locust man who has kidnapped (?) Kai. Cults and gods and brings with clan powers combine for a rollicking adventure I couldn't put down. Plus, it all happens around "Keshmish." Yes, please with the alternate holidays!
Bk1 of #WinterGames2020 is done! It‘s also a #ProgressItDecember #CrushTheRush #ClearUrShit #ChristmasSpiritReadathon #TisTheSeasonathon #CYOHolidayAdventure #MerryBookmas #TRFReads #BookishBingo #ReadYourWay #readathons It‘s a #TBRread so that makes 896pts for Team #MerryReaders I highly recommend this series about Native American monster hunters living in a post-apocalyptic America.
And so it begins! It‘s now 12.45am 1st December here in Sydney which means the #WinterGames2020 have arrived. I‘ve gotten a good start on my #bujospread but there‘s a lot more to do tomorrow. I‘m kicking off proceedings with a #ProgressItDecember read, the tagged book is the 2nd in the Sixth World Series about a Dinè monster hunter in a world populated with gods & monsters after the apocalypse. Let‘s go Team #MerryReaders?1pt
Listening while getting some cookies done this morning. Snickerdoodles and spiced molasses done and now frosted, time to relax.
I really, really loved book 1 and don‘t know why I waited to jump into book 2 for so long. I‘ve had it since it came out 🤦🏼♀️ So good, Maggie is just my fave anti-hero, I adore her so much and the bizarre mix of characters she picks up around her. Just the best.
Usually, the second book isn't that good as the first one. Not here. Everything I criticized about volume one is done right here 👍
The characters have depth, the story is told with the right speed and there's so much more atmosphere. Roanhorse must've put a lot of work into her writing and she fully succeeded.
I'm happy to have continued reading and hope that the next book will be as good as this one ❤️
Bk11 of my #MarchBookHaul & #BirthdayBookHaul is the 2nd book in the Sixth World Series. The continuing adventures of Dinè monster hunter Maggie Hoskie has reviews calling it better than the 1st novel which won & was nominated for several awards. I‘m trying to avoid blurbs etc as I haven‘t started the series yet, but I have high hopes for this.
These books are such quick reads, and I usually really appreciate that in a book, but I really love these characters and want to swim around in this world with them so much more. My hopeless romantic fanfic shipper heart wants so much more romance between my sweet OTP, but while I think they'll continue to be together, I don't think Roanhorse will give me the level and amount of sweet romance I so desire, and that's okay, I guess. :)
"'I've experienced their hospitality,' I admit. 'Didn't care for it, either.'
He stares at me at a minute, eyes narrow, before he barks a harsh laugh. 'Hospitality,' he sneers.
'I mean, they didn't bake me a pie or anything. But I got out in one piece.'
Something ugly crosses his face. 'One piece? Are you in one piece?' He lays a heavy hand across my knee. 'One need not dismember a woman to break her into pieces. I think you know that.'"
If they tell us we can't go outside at all anymore, my mental health will be a serious struggle. But for now, the not-quite-dried-up creek and the trees with their rustling leaves and the birds with their songs have not been changed by coronavirus, and they still have my back. As do library books (checked out before the APL closure) and Thai Fresh. ❤
You had me at the dedication, Roanhorse. 🏞
Loved this. Maggie is my favorite badass lady action hero.
I would have like to spend a little more time with the cult, gotten a little more insight into it's members. But really I just want more in general because I enjoyed this so much.
Can't wait for the next installment!
“I just mean that when something is part of your identity for so long, even if it‘s not a good thing, it‘s hard to let it go. Even if maybe you should.”
Even better than her first book! Maggie is a badass and proud to be referred to as “the crazy one in the girl gang.” These three fierce women take on a man who intends to create a new apocalypse for Dinetah. Can‘t wait to see where Roanhorse takes this series next.

Picking up not long after the events in book one, Storm of Locusts is an equally fast-paced read full of adventure, wry humor, and fantastic mythology.
My only quibble is the publisher did a poor job with editing, at least in the e-book format. So many little grammatical mistakes. It doesn't wreck the story but it's sloppy and inexcusable for a big name publisher.
I'm reading by oil lamp this evening, while everyone else sleeps around me in the livingroom. Hurricane Dorian is still wreaking its havoc outside, the power hasbeen out since mid-afternoon, and we distracted the boys with a family sleep over in the livingroom. I've had lots of time to read today, and I'm not ready to put it down yet. Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend! #WhenTheTitleSuitsTheWeather
Grabbing a little mommy time before I need to get supper ready. I've been anxiously awaiting this book to come in from the library, and the timing couldn't have been better. I wasn't sure I'd recall enough of the previous book. It dove right back into the action, and I'm all in. #SixthWorld #ThisSeriesIsSoGood
I enjoyed this book, but I suspect there are many nuances I am missing or not understanding because of lack of cultural knowledge. I highly recommend this and first book if you like dystopia, kick ass female, Native American folklore and culture, Supernatural. #bfcr3 and I‘m finally catching up with my #booked2019 Spring challenge (Native American Author) @Cinfhen @BarbaraTheBibliophage @4thhouseontheleft
Enjoyed it thoroughly! Rebecca Roanhorse has done it again with her second book! Review forthcoming! 4 1/2 stars from me!
The sequel to Trail of Lightning is a fast-paced adventure in an interesting post-apocalypse world. Roanhorse refers to her creation as “a solid bitch” and dedicates this volume “to all the women who are hard to love, and to the people who love them anyway,” and part of me was very “She‘s not that bad!” But she does remind me a bit of Nyx from Hurley‘s Bel Dame Apocalypse series... so maybe she is that bad. In a good way.
Started reading this at Silent Book Club tonight. So far, it definitely holds up to the first book!
So I like the post-apocalyptic world Rebecca Roanhorse has built and I obviously like the three emotionally stunted badass female protagonists who really drive this book but something just didn‘t sit this one firmly in the “love it” category for me. The final showdown felt incredibly rushed and I had questions that weren‘t remotely addressed but as book 2 in a series I guess I should have expected those things.
New homeowner achievement unlocked - I mowed our lawn today for the first time! I feel like I have definitely earned some quality time with this book in front of the air conditioner now 😝
The second book in the Sixth World series picks up just four weeks after the climax of Trail of Lightning and finds Kai missing, apparently under the sway of the White Locust, who is stockpiling explosives. Like the first book, this one is well-paced with good action and adds to the world-building of the world after the Big Water. Even though this just came out, I can't wait for the next one. Recommended.
I‘m a fan of this series, and number 2 didn‘t disappoint.
The big flood that destroyed most of the world also gave rise to the gods & monsters of Navajo legend, & clan powers to some. Monster hunter Maggie Hoskie has survived Black Mesa, but a new monster is on the loose in Dinétah. To find the person she loves Maggie will have to team up with friends against body harvesters & a powerful cult.
Nonstop action, magic, and danger. Several annoying editing mistakes. Great fun.
I feel odd about these books. I enjoy the use of lore and the setting, but the actual characters and story feel a bit par for the rather grim course. It's a fast read and it's great to see a set up that isn't all white people, but. Hm. I just don't love it.
This is a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ book for me😊 I loved everything thing about this sequel in the Sixth World Series. It‘s not often you get three bad ass female characters all unique and complex but Maggie, Ben and Rissa are all that and more! I can‘t wait for the next book and highly recommend this series❤️
Excellent follow up to Trail of Lightning! If you like strong complex women, trickster gods, rescue missions, and mythology, this one has it all and then some. Hopefully the wait for book three isn‘t too long. Eager to find out what‘s next! Especially after that ending.
I freaking love this cover ❤️and I really need to stop starting books at 11pm🤦🏾♀️
I don't absolutely love this world, but there's something more-ish about the books. I only meant to read a chapter or two to wind down before bed and now, oops! I've read 100 pages. I kinda wanna keep going, but sleep is smarter.
Finally got my hands on the sequel in this post apocalyptic series enriched with Navajo folklore. This time, Maggie, a Diné monster hunter, comes up against an evil that takes her beyond the Wall, where she walks with gods and legends and tries to save her home from a catastrophic flood. I have an abiding affection for well written anti-heroines, so not only did this check that but it worked for
