Let It Snow
Let It Snow: Three Holiday Stories | John Green, Maureen Johnson, Lauren Myracle
Three interconnected stories from three bestselling authors: John Green (Paper Towns, The Fault in our Stars), Maureen Johnson (The Name of the Star), and Lauren Myracle (The Internet Girls series.)Major motion picture in the works!A Christmas Eve snowstorm transforms one small town into a romantic haven, the kind you see only in movies. Well, kinda. After all, a cold and wet hike from a stranded train through the middle of nowhere would not normally end with a delicious kiss from a charming stranger. And no one would think that a trip to the Waffle House through four feet of snow would lead to love with an old friend. Or that the way back to true love begins with a painfully early morning shift at Starbucks. Thanks to three of todays bestselling teen authorsJohn Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myraclethe magic of the holidays shines on these hilarious and charming interconnected tales of love, romance, and breathtaking kisses.A New York Times Bestseller! "Tender without being mushy, these carefully crafted stories of believable teen love will leave readers warm inside for the holidays."School Library Journal "Contemporary culture, humorous romantic developments and strong characters enhance this collaborative effort."Kirkus ReviewsFrom the Trade Paperback edition.

A collection of 3 interrelated romance stories featuring high school students. The first story by Maureen Johnson was my favorite. It had a lot of humor and Stuart was a perfect character. The second story, by John Green, was my least favorite. The third story by Lauren Myracle started slow then got better. The ending brought together the couples from all three stories and left me feeling warm and fuzzy. This is a good book if you like YA fiction.

I just finished Let It Snow. It‘s a very wintery read, about teens‘ love lives during a snowstorm. It has 3 stories by 3 authors. I forgot to write down the titles. The first one centers around Jubilee & is the best. The 2nd one is by John Green. I usually love his books but found this & the 3rd story pretty boring. #wintergames #thefilthyanimals @rather_be_reading

Finished this on audio today, and this is a weak pick.

I loved the first story “Jubilee Express” by Maureen Johnson and the Norwegian narrator Kikki Stormo. I will absolutely listen to her again.

The two others “A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle” by John Green and “The Patron Saint of Pigs” by Lauren Myracle we‘re just OK.

But I don‘t think I was the intended reader for any of these stories.

Catsandbooks @Scochrane26 👍🏼 I thought the girl in the last story was kind of annoying, but maybe that was just me. 2w
Scochrane26 @Catsandbooks Usually I love ya, but in the last 2, I got annoyed with the teen decisions. Why are they out driving in that huge snow? And the last girl was very self-involved/dramatic. I love John Green but that story isn‘t his best. 2w
Catsandbooks @Scochrane26 I totally agree!! I kept thinking why are you out in a blizzard?! Maybe it's just me getting older and questioning the decision of these kids 🤷🏼‍♀️ 2w

1. Tagged on audio and starting The Great Pretender
2. Not sure yet, it depends on how much time I have. Might do a short one like The House on Mango Street.
3. I joined a book club for the first time through my library. And I‘ve read and liked all the books the librarian has picked out, even the ones I was hesitant about. #weekendreads @rachelsbrittain

Okay, Lauren Myracle, speaking as someone sitting in North Carolina (where the book is set) a few days before Christmas, sunrise is most definitely not at 6:30. Today sunrise was at 7:25. 🤦‍♀️

Suet624 Oops! 4w
twohectobooks When does morning twilight start, though? 4w
Caterina @twohectobooks Dawn is 6:57 today. At 6:30 it's still pitch dark, no sign of light! 4w
twohectobooks Huh, that‘s interesting, I guess northern latitudes still have longer twilight times in the winter - maybe that should have been obvious. Where I live (Canadian prairies), sunrise is at 9:13 today but civil twilight begins at 8:30. This is kind of a weird pet interest of mine haha. 4w
Caterina @twohectobooks That's so interesting! Thank you for the northern perspective, I've never lived in a much higher latitude than NC, so I hadn't realized that was the case! 4w

Got some good reading in on the porch today thanks to our fire keeping us warm! #Pippin enjoyed some serious lap snuggles. ? Book was okay - very authentically teenagery, cute Christmas/winter vibes and cliché teen love, fun fluff for the week before Christmas/week after finals. ? Saw the movie earlier this week and it's more "loosely inspired by" than "based on" the book, but also cutely cliché. #dogsoflitsy

Three short stories set in the same town, with overlapping characters. The first one by Maureen Johnson was the strongest; I‘m surprised I liked John Green‘s the least.

Someone explain something to me. In the first short story, the main character is travelling by train from Richmond, VA to FL when the train gets stuck in a small town.

In the 2nd story, this same town is geographically placed in the mountains of western NC.

There is no reason for a train travelling the I95 corridor to go through the mountains of western NC. It doesn‘t make any sense.

This is REALLY bothering me!

Bookwormjillk Maybe they were going to the Florida panhandle? But I agree dumb, and maybe the meant Roanoke VA not Richmond 1mo
Addison_Reads Oh, that would bother me too. 😬 1mo
4thhouseontheleft @Bookwormjillk except the neighbor in the first story is a high-powered lawyer that works in DC. It seems the different authors missed something in their communication with each other! 1mo
See All 8 Comments
4thhouseontheleft @Addison_Reads glad I‘m not the only one! 1mo
Bookwormjillk @4thhouseontheleft the neighbor commutes from Richmond to DC? That alone would do it for me. 1mo
4thhouseontheleft @Bookwormjillk well, I kind of interpreted it as he goes to DC for big cases. Not a daily commute. But that could just be me trying to rationalize wonky geography 1mo
LibrarianRyan Thank goodness I didn't read this book and only cheeted and watched the movie. Lovely Bk by the way. 1mo
IndoorDame I hate discrepancies like that! Totally takes you out of the story. And it always seems like it should have been an easy catch for the editor 1mo

As a whole, I found this to be underwhelming. I had such high hopes but it didn‘t quite reach them. This book was originally published in 2008 and I felt like this was a very typical YA book from that time. There was nothing that really drew me in and made me fall in love with it. I also didn‘t feel any sort of attachment to the characters.

I haven‘t read this or seen the Netflix special but I did get this as a holiday gift for someone. And I requested a copy for myself through my library. But I thought I‘d ask...
For any book...
❄️ Do you prefer the original book cover or the cover linked to the film?
❄️Do you compare the book to movie religiously or do you love and accept both?
❄️Do you read/watch holiday related books/movies during the holiday or all year long?

StayCurious I love when books I like are made into movies or tv shows! If I like the movie adaptation I tend to like the movie tie in cover. I love sappy holiday movies - this year I‘m binging hallmark movies😛 2mo
Moonprismpower @StayCurious my favorite super cheesy tv holiday movies:Eve‘s Christmas (on amazon prime) and Ebbie (starring Susan Lucci) and A Diva‘s Christmas Carol (Vanessa Williams). But my most favorite Christmas movie of all time is Scrooged. 2mo
