Matt Haig is a storytelling genius and I've loved everything I've read of his, but this is my new favorite. It slayed me.

I think the moral of the story is if you want to live take chances. Don‘t play it safe.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
“How to Stop Time” is a solid book that is a fairly quick read that emphasizes living in the moment instead of living in fear. I found that the historical flashbacks were interesting, however some of the story and relationship aspects could have been a bit more fleshed out (ex. Marion at the end, Camille).
This audio took me awhile to get into & was better after I sped it up to 1.25. Just a slow start to the book. Tom is a person whose body is very slow to change, so he‘s been living for hundreds of years but looks 40. Timeline jumps between present-day & different memories of his past. A good story, definitely better as you figure out the timeline. #doublespin for June 3.5⭐️
This book was interesting, but not life changing. Kind of meh.
This is my second Matt Haig book. I first was introduced to his writing with The Midnight Library, which is fantastic and highly recommend. I was excited about reading How to Stop Time and I loved it. The story is very thought provoking and that‘s what I enjoy most about the two Haig books I‘ve read so far. I genuinely start feeling more appreciative of the life I have and living day by day. Can‘t wait to start the next Matt Haig book.
I personally found it hard to connect with Tom, but I did love all the timeline weaving and the action, so it's overall a pick from me. But Good Lord, I have never met a character SO unable to see that the world is not actually like their conception of it!! #fiction #allofthegenres
Don't wanna return it but gotta. Had to stop due to personal big life issues. But with what I have read, it's a solid read. Thinking bout buying it so I don't have to worry bout the library fines 😅
Indie Bookstore Day!!! #ibd
I think last years goodies were nicer, but I really liked the duo “meet me at the bookstore” cloth bag and collapsable water bottle. Although it was the House in the Cerulean Sea character stickers that I was most excited to nab, it‘s an absolute favorite read.
This book grabbed me because of its Addie LaRue vibe; immortal man falls in forbidden love with a mortal.
How to Stop Time took me away on a heart warming journey through the many different lives of Tom Hazard. It reminded me of The Invisible Life of Addie Larue at times in tone and theme but probably because it is a story across centuries dealing with a form of immortality. The ending left me wanting perhaps a little more in relation to the character arc of the daughter but it was wrapped up nicely. You can‘t help but root for these characters.
Tom Hazard has anageria - since puberty he has aged very slowly, about one year bodily aging every fifteen actual years. Always moving on to keep it a secret, he has been looking for his daughter since his wife told him on her deathbed in the 17th century that she had inherited the condition.
Very enjoyable mix of historical and speculative fiction with reflections on how things stay the same even when they don't.
There is no possible way of living in a world without books or trees or sunsets. There just isn't.
I am old. That is the main thing to tell you. The thing you are least likely to believe.

Meh. I love Matt Haig‘s children‘s books, especially about Santa Claus, but this one was too slow for me. The premise was interesting, and I didn‘t mind the flipping from present to past, since I imagine someone who has lived hundreds of years would reminisce a lot, but the overall story was rather anticlimactic, in my opinion.
Sounds like an interesting story on it's own and I was already sold, but I guess it's being made into a movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch? Alright I'm in.
I still need to read The Midnight Library. That's been on my TBR for awhile now. That is the same author right? If not oops.
Also...$79.38 😳

Day 240.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.
I just started this book and I‘m enjoying it!
No blackout, but I managed to get a few bingos for January's #bookspin. The best thing is almost all of these were books off my physical tbr shelf, so yay for actually tackling that monster (...well, a tiny piece of that monster). I am committed to finish this year with fewer books on my shelves than I started the year with. 🤞
#two4tuesday
1. I‘ve always been fascinated by Tudor England under the rule of Queen Elizabeth.
2. Tagged. Such a great book and now being made into a movie.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
I liked this one a lot more than Midnight Library. I went into it fairly blind as to the plot, and it was just really good.
This was my 7th finished book for the year off my physical tbr shelves, so I'm super excited about that. Good start for my goal to finish 180 this year.

What are you reading this weekend?
Thank you @j9brown for this great #littlechristmasswap 🎁
I love it! I‘m excited for this book.
The cocoa and chocolates have come to work with me today.
Bonus points for the FANTASTIC card!❤️
At first I wasn‘t sure about this as I thought it would be too similar to Addie LaRue. However, I ended up liking it more than Addie.
It seemed to have a simpler concept / storyline, which made it easier to read and get engrossed in. I‘m not a huge fan of fantasy and this was also less fantastical than Addie, if that‘s possible with an MC who doesn‘t grow old!
Thank you for sending this to me Victoria @Birdsong28 ! 😘

Just finished a book about an hour ago, so picked another one out of my lucky dip jar, and this is next so it‘s my #weeklyforecast for the week. I‘m very much looking forward to it, Victoria @Birdsong28
I‘ll also continue with Apples Never Fall on audio. I *might* finish it this week, depending on how much work I have on and how many #audiowalks I get to do. If I do finish it then I‘ll move onto the Gucci audio, recommended by you Cindy!
HOW MANY LIFETIMES DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN HOW TO LIVE?
Tom Hazard has a dangerous secret. He may look like an ordinary 41-year-old history teacher, but he's been alive for centuries. From Elizabethan England to Jazz-Age Paris, from New York to the South Seas, Tom has seen it all. As long as he keeps changing his identity he can keep one step ahead of his past - and stay alive. The only thing he must not do is fall in love . . .
This was a nice surprise! It was an impulse buy at a discount book store. I hadn't heard much about it, but it was cheap and sounded intriguing. I enjoyed it so much! I've not had great luck with recent books, so maybe this was a case of "right book, right time." It was just what I was looking for. Incredibly readable with some lovely aphorisms throughout ❤.
I picked this book up when I was on my vacation and I was instantly drawn into the store that spans centuries. Narrated by the MC he tells his story of loves lost and the history he has lived while searching for someone important to him. I love Mr Haig‘s writing style. Great escape and perfect as a vacation read.
My #20in4 wrap up for September!
📚 Completed 4 books, made progress on a 5th
⏰ Read (just) over 20 hours
💵 714 pages means another $7.14 in the bank for #pennyperpage
🎉 Finally on track for my GR challenge - or I thought I would be but between one day and the next it seems I still fell another book behind 😪😪.
Thanks @Andrew65 for hosting! Very happy with how it went this time around 🥳
A delightful read that felt personally tailored to my interests (history! music! Shakespeare! Fitzgerald!) while telling the story of love(s) that span centuries. My first book by Haig, but I‘m now eager to read more of his work — especially The Midnight Library, which is already waiting on my shelf.
July 27, 2021 Mannnn Listers!!! The last post was on May 8, 2021. Sorry for the hold up. I have been busy here and there. Isnt that what life is about??? Anyway, I am close to finishing this book. Very interesting. I like the way Matt Haig writes. He pulls the reader in right away -- just my opinion.
May 8, 2021 Happy early Mother's Day Listers (or Happy Parent Day). Today I went to the bookstore, Books Inc. in particular, and decided to browse. But you know how it is! When you are inside a bookstore surrounded by so many fabulous authors, for example Matt Haig, you cannot stop yourself from buying... at least I can't :) I'll tell you what I think when I finish
A stunning book that weaves its thread through centuries and manages to tie a bow at the end. Inspiring.
When i went to the library to return The Midnight Library I decided to see if they had How To Stop Time. They did and Im really hoping its as magical as The Midnight Library was!
A intriguing book, a better version of the Addie Larue type story 😉 Read for the #Buzzwordathon - March‘s word/prompt is Time. 4/5
“History isn‘t something you need to bring to life. History already is alive. We are history. History isn‘t politicians or kings or queens. History is everyone. It is everything. It‘s that coffee. You could explain much of the whole history of capitalism and empire and slavery just by talking about coffee. The amount of blood and misery that has taken place for us to sit here and sip coffee out of paper cups is incredible.”
Soooo... I came across the bookmark I made last year and was going to turn into a blog header/logo today, and on a whim finished said header/logo and changed my whole blog layout afterwards. 🙈 Not sure if I'm completely happy with it yet, but a new year means a fresh start right? 🤔😂🤷♀️
