Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy, The-Holiday Ed.
Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy, The-Holiday Ed.: and Other Stories | Tim Burton
From breathtaking stop-action animation to bittersweet modern fairy tales, filmmaker Tim Burton has become known for his unique visual brilliance -- witty and macabre at once. Now he gives birth to a cast of gruesomely sympathetic children -- misunderstood outcasts who struggle to find love and belonging in their cruel, cruel worlds. His lovingly lurid illustrations evoke both the sweetness and the tragedy of these dark yet simple beings -- hopeful, hapless heroes who appeal to the ugly outsider in all of us, and let us laugh at a world we have long left behind (mostly anyway).

Welp, I couldn‘t help myself: I read this August #roll100 pick in about 20 minutes last night. Very forgettable and meh. Edward Gorey did it way better, in my (very novice and non-horror loving) opinion. I‘d recommend a read for the biggest Tim Burton fans and a pass for everyone else.
Nice to get a jump on August‘s #roll100 picks though!

PuddleJumper Nicely done! 😂 2y

Day 130.
Here I will note 365 books (or as many as I will have before I get tired) that have shaped my taste in literature. No explanations, no reviews. Just the cover of the book.
I do not challenge anyone. You are all welcome to take part.

Maybe just not my thing? I‘ve never in my life thought “I want to read some cutesy yet very bleak doggerel poems”. I know lots of people like this and found it quirky but it just seemed to me like what if shel silverstein got really really depressing.

As expected, just as dark as Tim Burton's movies, I loved the illustrations and the quirky poems and short stories that went with them. Definitely reccomend for a quick, dark and utterly odd read!

This book of stories is really a collection of poems about unfortunate children in Tim Burton's signature creepy style. A super quick read with cute illustrations to go along with the stories.

#LilithJuly Day 29: This collection of illustrated grisly and grim poetry by Tim Burton is perfect for #GetUrFreakOn. It has an assortment of beautiful misfits with characters like Brie Boy, Junk Girl, Melonhead, The Pin Cushion Queen, the Hideous Penguin Boy to cite a few. They are all strange and surreal archetypes of the people that we are – perhaps concealed in the farthest corners of our minds. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-5zO

Dark, freakish, and cute short poems. The theme reminds us of children's stories, but they may be a tad too dark for them. Loved it.

#WitchyReads Day 29: There are 23 odd little poems in all in this collection with the equally-strange and beautiful illustrations done by Tim Burton.
My favorite though in this collection is #Voodoo Girl:

“Her skin is white cloth,
and she‘s all sewn apart
and she has many colored pins
sticking out of her heart.”

This book is FANTASTICALLY NUTS! 😜😜🤣🤣🤣It's so crazily tragic yet freakin hilarious at the same time. Love the macabre sense of humour.

2017, Book 15 "The doctor said gently,
"What I'm going to say will sound pretty wild.
But you're not the father
of this strange-looking child.
You see, there still is some questions
about the child's gender,
but we think that its father
is a microwave blender.

The Smiths' lives were now filled
with misery and strife...
He never forgave her unholy alliance:
a sexual encounter
with a kitchen appliance."

We all know Tim Burton tells great and imaginative stories, from his movies. This book recalls the same features as Vincent, and is very fun to read.

My pick for #booktober #longtitle. I love Tim Burton's movies, although some were a hit and miss. He really made a good comeback with Miss Peregrin (I have yet to read the book) seeing the movie yesterday made me think of this wacky book again. The tales in it are all a bit dark and sad, exactly what you would expect of Burton. The art is great and it's perfect for this time of the year. @RealLifeReading
