so-soThe writing in these stories is great and reminds me of Lorrie Moore. However, I typically like the main characters of Moore's stories and I didn't like any of these women. They collectively seemed to think being fat or enjoying "mom" activities were the most horrifying traits a woman could have. I couldn't relate to them.

I‘m a licensed veterinarian, and I have never experienced this. Maybe with a dairy calf. Generally you use a mechanism with a trigger that delivers the medicine to the back of the tongue. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
pickSolid short story collection. The title story was so beautiful, also the other stories that also included Maya and Rhodes. I could real an entire book about them.

so-soFinished this one between ALA sessions and free books :). And just feel meh. I mean I think the topic is something new and refreshing for how it's handled but just didn't blow me away with the writing. And one story came up a couple times which made the collection feel disjointed to me.
pickI'm not a short story person, but have started reading and appreciating story collections within the past year. This is my new second favorite! The title story, which is about a dog and a relationship, may have been my favorite, but almost every one hits the mark. It was a great audiobook. Next up I plan to read #amanualforcleaningwomen.

pickThe thing that drives me crazy about short stories is that they just...end. With no ending. But I suppose if the only bad thing I have to say about these short stories in particular is that I wanted more of them, well then. I'd have to recommend that book.

pickI think the best thing I can say is that this is a short stories collection and I liked it and would recommend, and I rarely like short stories! I listened to the audiobook and the narrators were great. I will warn that many of the stories are about adultery, which doesn't bother me but some people may not want to read about it. Also, the title story involves the death of a dog, or at least it seemed to be moving in that direction-I had to skip!

so-soLots of second person narrative...not my favorite thing. Most of the stories deal with marital strife... beware if that's a trigger for you.
Enjoying these short stories in between errands and chores and cringing a little when they hit too close to home. I didn't realize i had an audience until i took the picture!
pickI have all kinds of complicated feelings about this book. The writing is exquisite, but I found these stories hard to read. I remember in my adolescence having a conversation with a relative who said he didn't read books about adultery. I was taken aback. So many great books featured adultery! But as I've gotten older, I've grown less comfortable with the theme.
These stories are stark and real and complicated.

I already shared my TBR yesterday, so I'll have to do a lunchtime quote, well two. This book is very quotable. The people aren't single, though. A lot of extramarital affairs going on!
I'm closing in on 500 books since April 2012 when I purchased my first Kindle. I'm at 493 right now. It took me 2 1/2 years to read my first 200, 16 months to read 200 more, and I've read the last close to 100 since 1/4/16. I'm getting faster! Plus cutting out TV helped! 😉
It could haunt you for months, even for years, the unknown reason, and take on a nearly mythical importance, until you forgot, or almost forgot, that the truly important thing was that someone you wanted to be with no longer wanted to be with you.
