Great book! I loved the symbolism of the nicknames Denna and Mare used as they became closer. Denna has been promised to Mare‘s brother, Thandi. But, as Mare teaches Denna how to ride horses, they friendship blossoms into something more. Mean while, people with magical abilities are being prosecuted and killed and Denna has to make sure no body finds out about hers. A sweet, cute read. 4⭐️

I loved this tale of two princesses falling in love! One is amazing with horses, one has a secret magic power. There‘s a twisty mystery (whodunnit was fairly easy for me to figure out, but lots of twists got us there) and they struggle with serious issues about rulership as well. I‘m really looking forward to the sequel.

I‘m several chapters in to the tagged and really enjoying it, but realized I was getting a bit fuzzy on the characters and world due to reading two secondary-world-fantasy YA f/f romances in a row! 😆 I decided I‘d better alternate it with this book club selection, which is quite different. (Actually, they‘re both for book clubs, but two different ones.)

I wanted to enjoy this one, but I found myself disappointed and bored. The first few chapters were promising, but the middle slogged on. I wanted more worldbuilding and adventure throughout, not just here and there. I liked the f/f relationship, don‘t know if I‘ll try the sequel or not.

I finally got around to putting this in my bookshelf after receiving it for Christmas. #alittlebehind #tbr

loved the strong, smart, capable female characters, and the ending was a good one. The plot is a mystery set in a fantasy world, which I'm always here for, and the f/f relationship (especially for main characters) is one that still feels underrepresented in YA. I don't know if I'll read the second book, because I actually liked how this one ended.

Almost done with this audiobook- it's been on my tbr for awhile!

I successfully completed all 12 OWLs! I loved the majority of them - God Emperor Of Dune and Unicorns of Balinor were just not for me, but the rest were 5 star reads for me. Wrapped up my owlcrateathon with this gem! Ripped my heart out. ❤️

Good in the beginning, slow in the middle, good in the end. It‘s good enough that I want to read the next one, but not good enough that I‘m rushing out to read it. Some things got wrapped up way to easy, but i really enjoyed the way the author discusses how the women in a traditional kingdom have no freedom, and how duty isn‘t always enough, especially when everything else is taken from you 3.5/5 stars. Read if you wanted more from Ash Princess

This one was cute, i hope the next one comes out soon, I need to know more about the wlw.

I really enjoyed this, wish I hadn‘t waited so long to read it—and now I have to wait a year for the sequel, it seems! The author did a great job building this world, its magic system, and conflicts. I appreciate that unlike a lot of YA fantasy, the plot wasn‘t absurdly convoluted and was easy and exciting to follow. I adored the slow burn romance between Denna & Mare, which was very authentic (and hot!). Both girls were great characters. 4/5 ⭐️

This romance is a definite slow burn, but I‘m kinda loving that about it. It feels so much more authentic, especially for Denna, and this being her first realization of liking girls. Aaah memories 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 (Also, nice to get the opposite of insta-love for once!)

3/5 ⭐. The beginning promised a slow-burn romance & I was excited to delve into the worldbuilding. However, the 2nd half failed on that promise. The overarching plot thinned in favor of the romance happening faster. Much conflict came from stubbornness that didn't make sense. I did like seeing 1 princess embrace and take control of her own agency within the court. Overall I enjoyed the book enough to make me want to read the sequel. #projectnew

this was actually a REALLY cute and light fantasy. only complaints were that the two female POVs kind of blended together and that there were some long stretches where nothing really happens. I'll def pick up the rest of the books

OMG. This book is one of the best I've read in a hot minute! I adored the characters and found myself cheering for them, grieving with them, and celebrating their victories with them. Excellent plot line and there were some nice twists as well. Loved it!
