59 posts | 69 read | 35 to read
From New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot comes the sweetly humorous story of a man who has to face his past in order to find his future.Sometimes to move forward, you have to go back One post. That s all it took to destroy the care free, glamorous life of pro golfer Reed Stewart. One tiny post on the Internet. Then again, it s not like Reed s been winning many tournaments lately, and his uncle isn t the only one who says it s because of the unfinished business he left behind back home in Bloomville, Indiana namely Reed s father, the Honorable Judge Richard P. Stewart, and the only girl Reed ever loved, Becky Flowers. But Reed hasn t spoken to either his father or Becky in over a decade. Until that post on the Internet.Suddenly, Reed s family has become a national laughingstock, his publicist won t stop calling, his siblings are begging for help, and Reed realizes he has no other choice: He s got to go home to face his past . . . the Judge and the girl he left behind.Becky s worked hard to build her successful senior relocation business, but she s worked even harder to forget Reed Stewart ever existed which hasn t been easy, considering he s their hometown s golden boy, and all anyone ever talks about. It was fine while they were thousands of miles apart, but now he s back in Bloomville. She has absolutely no intention of seeing him until his family hires her to help save his parents. Now Reed and Becky can t avoid one another or the memories of that one fateful night. Can the quirky residents of Bloomville bring these two young people back together, or will Reed and Becky continue to allow their pasts to deny them the future they deserve? This warm, thought-provoking book, told entirely in texts, emails, and journal entries, is as much about the enduring bond of families as it is about second chances at love, and will delight as much as it entertains. I love The Boy series so much and hope that someday Meg Cabot adds more books to this series. This book was amazing and I love the style of the writing, it is done in emails/text messages/newspaper articles/etc. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.

And that's a wrap for #stayhome24in48. I was 9 hours shy of 24 hours but I got some great books read this weekend, including a few that have been languishing on my TBR. It was super nice to just read all weekend and not obsess over the state of the world. Now good night, Littens!

Meg Cabot is one of my "guilty pleasure" authors and I have enjoyed most of the books I've read of hers. Unfortunately that being said I have to admit this one was probably one of my least favorite of them. I was excited for this one because I love the way the Boy series books are written as a series of emails, texts, and communications. It just felt to me as though part of the story is missing here.

The modern epistolary format (emails, texts, journals, etc) was nice at first, but started to feel like overkill after a while. The story was cute but I didn't feel very invested in the characters.

I loved this. The formatting is so much fun and really gives you insight to the characters. Each one has such distinct voices that would come out in the conversations that would happen with family. Super glad this was a pick for our group. I mailed it yesterday and expect to have some choices for the next round soon. @Schlinkles @bookandcat #lmpbc

bookandcat @TsundokuAleax @Schlinkles my life has been bananas (I quit one of my 3 jobs unexpectedly and we were also away) so I still need to mail Aleax's book to Melissa and finish reading Melissa's book. Hoping to do that today or tomorrow. I'm so sorry I've been such a slacker and that it screwed up the mailing! 😭 5y
bookandcat But also I'm so glad you enjoyed this one! She has a bunch in the series with this modern epistolary style that I want to read 5y
TsundokuAleax @bookandcat dont feel bad. This past year was a hot mess of a dumpster fire and I basically stress read romance novels for my own sanity. I was around to finish the books in a timely manner so no worries. 5y

Finished the other #LMPBC book! This was super cute. Reed and Becky grew up in a small Indiana town and dated in high school but things went sour. Now Reed is back to help out his aging parents in their move and Becky is the person helping them downsize! As with all of Cabot's "The Boy..." series, it's told via emails and texts and chats and the like. And in typical Cabot fashion, it's adorable and hilarious and fun. 4⭐ @schlinkles @TsundokuAleax

I guess I'd call this #romantsy but it's quite an unusual one. The story is told in a series of texts, emails, journal entries, newspaper reports, Internet customer reviews and one transcript of a recording. It's a light hearted story about a disfunctional family that mostly sorts itself out by the end. And a sweet second chance romance. Good fun.

Actually, I read the whole series, because this want to much of a stretch for me.
The first three were solid. Not great, life changing literature, but pleasantly good, enjoyable books.
The fourth was not. The story was ok, but the structure didn't work. It feels like the author didn't understand the media she was imitating (text messages, Facebook, Amazon, newspaper etc). Stop after the third book.

This was a quick, fluffy read. While I didn‘t love the epistolary style of the book (told entirely through emails, IMs, texts, and Amazon reviews), the love story central to the plot was cute and the humor was good. I figured out the “twist” pretty early on, but overall it was a pick.

Great cover I think ^^

I‘m a sucker for an epistolary novel. They are my literary weakness. I guess because it feels like I‘m reading secrets. Anyway, this one is okay. It‘s not disappointing but it does seem like it was written in a rush - the characters a forgettable and the plot is fairly surface. The book description alluded to a lot more tension than what showed up. Cabot has other, better books.

Even though this new installment was my least favourite of the Boy series (I've re-read Boy Meets Girl about a 1000 times!) it was still a fun, quick read packed with Cabot's signature quirky humour. Reed Stewart hasn't been back to his hometown in 10 yrs, ever since he drove a golf cart into a swimming pool on prom night and left his high school sweetheart behind. But now his family needs him as his parents have crossed the line from eccentricity to hoarders and cat enthusiasts... Told in social media formats (texts, e-mails, etc.,) this is a fun and funny light romance, and a quick read (perfect for a rainy afternoon) 😂

I haven't read any Meg Cabot before, much less the previous three titles in this series; but this looks like a great book to while away a cold, rainy afternoon! Reed Stewart apparently had some sort of drunken golf cart incident at his prom and hasn't been back home in ten years. Now, however, familial duty calls as his parents appear to have both crossed over from eccentricity into dementia... Light fare told via text messages, e-mail, etc.

Kat_Reads You should try her book the boy next door! It's one of her adult books and it's written in email form 8y

Okay, what happened to Meg Cabot? I grew up with her. I loved and still love a lot of her work, especially the "Boy" and "Mediator" series'. But, just like with Remembrance, I'm left incredibly disappointed with this book. Maybe it's the curse of the sequel, but she's never left me feeling so annoyed and disconnected with a story so far. I guess I'll just have to hope for the best with whatever she does next... ??

Yesterday's posts about blurbs got me noticing this one and how horrible it is. The only blurb on the whole book and it's some innocuous fluff about nothing. I actually think it makes the book look bad, like "No one could say anything good about this book so we just put this generalized random quote here. Enjoy!"

yaten_34 Really? Is that bad? This book is next on my reading list 😱 8y

My new practice is going to only post books when I finish them, cause the majority of the books I post at the start don't get completed.
But this one! Meg Cabot seems to have gotten her groove back after the slog/snoozefests that were Royal Wedding and Remembrance, probably because while it continued a "series", it was still a new story. And the Boy books have a fun, quick format that makes them easy to get sucked into.

LauraBrook I have the same problem, once something gets marked as "currently reading", wherever it is (here, LT, Goodreads, etc) I never get anywhere with it. I annoy myself with this! 8y

Though part of a series, it stands well on its own... but if you're looking for some deep seated reading, this isn't the place. It's very light with the plot right below the surface and while Reed's and Becky's exchanges were amusing, the BIG EVENT that drove the ten year wedge, transcribed into a non event to me. Still, it had its moments... ☺
