A few years ago I read this article https://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/20/opinion/jane-austens-guide-to-alzheimers.html... it really changed my perspective of Emma as just a spoiled rich girl. She's parenting a parent. Which I've done and it never easy.
They don‘t seem to ship to the U.K. .... which is probably good news for my bank balance! ☹️

so-soIt had been almost 15 years since I had read this one and getting back into it reminded me almost immediately how much I am not a fan of Emma. She is unwise to say the least in her decisions to meddle and matchmake. She is shallow in many ways. But as I read along, maybe it is my added years of experience this time around, I judged her less harshly. Not my favorite of Austen's but still... ❤

I think I'm crashing the #seasonsreading2016 party because it's Jane Austen's birthday today! My favorite #janeaustenadaptation is the 1996 "Emma." I totally want a friend group like this, where we host balls, pick strawberries in fields and have picnics. And if anyone would like to propose to me someday, please do the scene at the end of this movie. Or at least incorporate Rachel Portman's soundtrack. :p. Emma's issues were so relatable here.
Confession time: I have not read a single Jane Austen. I think I will have to change that in the next year. That being said, I do love this film adaptation! (And Paul Rudd!) #seasonsreadings2016
When Jane Austen began writing Emma, she said of the titular Miss Woodhouse, "I am going to take a heroine whom no one but myself will much like." Austen must have greatly underestimated her ability to craft relatable characters.
