Hard to pick a favorite among the Discworld novels, I would put Raising Steam in my top 5..
As my original reading of the Discworld books was wildly out of order, I wonder whether the strong linkage to Thud! and Snuff stood out to me as much then as it did in this reread. While Moist being himself in another adventure is enjoyable (with his ever growing list of associates), as are any moments with Vimes and the City Watch, there's a fair amount of space made not just for Iron Girder and her attendants, but continuing dwarf intrigue. 1/2
I have been 100 pages into this book for 2 months and I can't bring myself to go back to it. Something about the writing! My brain can't take it! #OokBOokClub
Steam engines have come to the Disc. At the same time, a small & vocal group of dwarves are committing terrorism & arson in the name of “Dwarves First.” Fortunately, chaos is where Moist von Lipwig thrives.
I love the Moist novels. Chaotic & thrilling, but also thoughtful commentaries. Here we watch a vocal group push against progress & change, because they are scared & angry. Loved the whole cast, loved the goblins, loved the ending. 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌗

A whole lot of my favorite characters work together in this final Discworld novel. Moist, Vimes, Vetinari (who is on my bookmark 🥰), along with some new characters, help to usher in the age of the steam engine. Dwarven politics come into play again, with some twists I really loved.
It makes me really sad that this concludes my reread of the entire Discworld series. I think in 2023 I‘ll reread the Tiffany Aching series.
#OokBOokClub-ers, our Discworld adventure continues TODAY with #RaisingSteam!
Looking forward to our discussion next month!
Happy reading!

I think this paragraph is a good example of the problem I am once again having with this book - I feel like it's constantly skipping over dialog or happenings with the narrative just saying "Moist did this." Why not just write this dialog?
#OokBOokClub
I have just realized I am reading this too early! Because the Long Blank books are so forgettable that my brain elided over them! Whoops!
#OokBOokClub
I am trying to put my finger on what doesn't feel right about this (because it didn't feel right the first time and it doesn't feel right now) and: maybe it's the very long speeches people are giving uninterrupted?
(Moist also hasn't been in it much, for a Moist book, but that's more disappointing than anything.)

Starting this book for #OokBOokClub and I am reminded: I don't much care about trains. It was one of my problems the first time around!
My final #bookspin board for 2023! Thank you @TheAromaofBooks for continuing to host this fun monthly challenge. 💕📚❄️
These really aren‘t seasonal, but my #AuthorAMonth and books for both of my bookclubs are on there, as well as a few books I picked up at the #TexasBookFestival last month. Looking forward to the picks!
A joy. The best of the Discworld books leave you with hope about the future, and this one did. It reminds people that hate is corrosive to the individual and the group, that acceptance is something we should all strive to practice, that invention can be essential, life-saving, and change, necessary. I had a lot of fun with the train journey and flipping back frequently to the map at the front. 🚂
Note the change in hats! 🥹
Dwarven smack talk. 😆
Well that's a vivid rebuttal to an old turn of phrase!
Assimilation of a culture: "Something was being stolen from the world without anybody noticing or caring."
In love with these end papers.

As always with Pratchett, an adventurous tale that is actually an in-depth look at many issues — the challenges and dangers of progress and change, the instability of peace, and always, always the incredible power of the imagination, both singular and collective. I‘m not sure it all held together as seamlessly as some of his earlier work, but thoroughly enjoyable regardless. The Librarian recommends.
Taking a break from The Luminaries, because what even is that book, with something hopefully a little more digestible…
It hurts a little to rate a Pratchett only So-So, but I'd say this was the weakest of his books I read so far. Sure, it does have its good moments, especially with the dwarfs, but all in all it just ended up way to long. The story drags on, no real plot is in sight, and Terrys usual wit is totally missing. Actually, this was the first time I got bored reading a Discworld novel...

1.Moist is one of my favourite characters ever,I absolutely love how he always tries to do the right thing.Adorabelle Dearheart too.Genuinely badass
2.Lauren Olamina from Butler's Parable duology,so resourceful,brave and humane.
3.Psmith, from Wodehouse,totally hilarious.
4.Captain Vimes, for the humanity and sense of honour.
5.Gilbert from Small Island,he reminds me of my dad who's one of the nicest people I know.
AnkhMorpork enters the Railway Age.
Lots of cameo roles for people from previous books, making it a conscious swansong even if it wasn't actually the last book.
#audiobook Moist von Lipwig drags Discworld into the modern (steam) age by way of the railways. A fun installment of #Discworld, but this felt like it was trying to wrap up too many characters‘ storylines at once for me. I know it‘s one of the last of Pratchett‘s novels, but I‘m reading them all out of order. I‘ll probably appreciate more of the references when I‘ve read more of the books.

Today I got the last two of the Discworld series in this edition. I‘m hoping maybe they‘ll reprint the Tiffany Aching series in a matching edition, but there are already so many different releases of those, I‘m not sure they‘ll actually do it.
❤️ my Pratchett. #PratchettPosse

It couldn't pain me more to give the last Discworld novel before Sir Terry's death a so-so but I feel that some of his decline comes through. There are brilliant bits, angry bits and that essential moral core but the pacing is off and the plot feels loose and uncoordinated. There's plenty of Vetinari and I was thrilled to see Vimes but they weren't quite themselves. A bittersweet end to the "adult" Discworld. Just The Sorcerer's Crown to go ?
It was ok but I can't help but feel not a whole lot happened and I didn't really get attached to any of the characters. Well, ok, I liked one goblin but that was partially the audiobook narrator doing a great job.

Well, viva escargot! ... although the secret ingredient, he was quite sure, was likely to be avec
Because that‘s where he puts people he doesn‘t like
#riotgrams - Day 10: Book Deserving More Readers. Raising Steam is the rare fantasy book that challenges us to fight for justice, not accept the status quo, and genuinely look forward to a better world. It‘s so good.
Next up: one I've waited too long to get to. My sister gave me the companion book for Christmas years ago, but I didn't tell her I hadn't read this one yet.
I have tonight and all of tomorrow to read this, so I decided to chance it.
And look: End papers! A map! 😍

"Moist and his unhappy but hopeful band were shepherded surreptitiously from behind by Of the Twilight the Darkness, who was becoming a great lieutenant, despite the fact that he brazenly considered Moist to be a bit of a tit. But a useful tit all the same." After starting a new job yesterday, I've come back to an old friend for a comfort read; my brain is too fried from information overload for anything new. #sirterry #discworld
I suck at social media. Well when it‘s more than two.
Anywho, quick book update:
Read 60 books this year so far. Currently reading this one.
Delved into the world audio books and loving it. The Help is my fave so far.
Err..... I have a new bookcase for my TBR as the boxes weren‘t working.
Christmas is expected to be full of books. I will try and remember to share with what I‘ve got. ^_^
