Bookwomble @Ruthiella It was, and given the machismo amongst Hollywood leading men in the '50s, Douglas was given a hard time by John Wayne, who couldn't understand why he'd want to play the part of a tortured artist, saying "Christ, Kirk! How can you play a part like that? There's so few of us left. We got to play strong, tough characters. Not those weak queers." ??♂️? I think Douglas's interpretation was incredible for its time. 2y

Bookwomble @Aimeesue @Ruthiella It would certainly have been a different film if Wayne had played Vincent! And, as these toxicly masculine attitudes become increasingly archaic, perhaps we can hope that, like the other dinosaurs, those who hold them will eventually become extinct 💀🦖💀 2y
