pickI love a good book in a school setting! Alternating between past and present, this novel delves into the lives of “The Divines” with all of the “mean girl” vibes: their jealousy, faux friendships, and outright animosity towards others. We see how, as an adult looking back, things are so much clearer and yet some actions can never be reversed!
pickI really enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. I received it this month as my Literati Book Club book. I was a member of Susan Orlean‘s club and switched to Elin Hilderbrand this month and I think I‘m going to stick with her club because of the rest of her selections are like this one I think I will really enjoy them! 🌟🌟🌟🌟!
pickGosh, high school girls really are vile twats. The present day timeline left me with a lot of unanswered questions and I thought Josephine‘s adult self could have been more fully fleshed out. But I seriously could not put this down. If you need to like characters stay far FAR away as everyone is a cruel little shit. Naturally it was right up my alley. 😂
so-soThe writing here was good, but the story was a bit cliche. The author introduced the idea that boarding schools impacted future relationships, but this wasn‘t as well fleshed out in the modern day timeline as I would have liked, and ultimately the boarding school experience didn‘t even seem to be the relevant issue in her relationship. 3⭐️
panSo this was a giant disappointment. It‘s set up to be like a mystery set at a boarding school told in flashback...but the reality is there is no real plot, just spoiled rich girls being snots to their teachers & each other. I wouldn‘t recommend.

pickI‘m still giving this a pick, although I‘m left with mixed feelings at the end. There is not one single likeable person in this story, yet I was completely sucked in and needed to know what happened. The end was underwhelming. Overall, not great but not bad at all. 3.5⭐️
pickPerfect book for my mood these days 🙌 enough happens to keep me interested and guessing, without it being action packed. I‘m not sure it will stay with me forever, but it was just right for now, and that‘s okay 🙌
Bording school drama, bullying, sexuality, friendship and identity are big themes, so if that‘s your thing, I would give it a go 👍

pickI love a boarding school story, and the audio (with fabulous narrator Imogen Church) was a page-turning one.Toxic frenemies, sexual experimentation, mean girl cliques and ‘Divines‘ vs ‘Townies‘ kept tensions high. I was drawn in by adult Josephine‘s recollections and reflections on her teen struggles and memories. Not sure I would have loved it as much in print, but this one definitely kept me gripped.

The narration was lovely but soooooooo slow. I had to speed up to 1.5 to 1.75 to listen. If your player acts funky at high speeds, skip it.
The book itself was a disappointment. The narrator and most of the characters are completely unlikeable and not redeemed.

This book is interesting because there is not one redeemable person in the story, yet I liked it. It starts off as a slow moving character study of superficial adolescents in a British boarding school and picks up at the end. It has a contemplative Lord of the Flies feel to it. Imogen Church reads the audio version and she does an excellent job as narrator.

pickI really enjoyed The Divines. It is a coming of age novel where the main character experienced every possible problem imaginable. The story also discusses Jo‘s problems in adulthood. The Divines really focuses on what happened in the past and how that affects Jo in the present.

so-soNetgalley book, novel of a woman who was in a private school and an accident happens to one of the girls. the woman reflects on her life back then while starting a new life with her husband.
it was okay to me.
so-soSephine is caught up in her past as she reflects on her teenage years as one of the Divines. Newly married and carving out her adult life she cannot fully let go of the past. The writing in this book is sharp and I was transported back to uncertainty of navigating high school relationships. Sephine‘s adult life is less engaging, partially because Sephine herself is flailing but also because the focus seems to disappear and the plot feels aimless.
