I love to collect Fandom cookbooks and cookbooks from people I admire. However, I kept collecting these books and they simply decorated our shelf in the front room.

For 2023, I challenged myself to make a recipe from one of these books once a month. And guess what? I completed it!

I have a few cookbooks based on literature, tv shows, or movies but I've never tried a recipe. So my goal for this year is to make something each month from one of my cookbooks. For this month, I made Cream of Nontoxic Mushroom Soup from Outlander Kitchen. 😋

We're back from our honeymoon and sorting through wedding gifts. One of my best friends got us a cookbook I've been lusting after (GBBO) and a copy of her favorite cookbook (Outlander).

Have any of you made anything out of either book?

Day 18 of #somethingforsept

The Outlander book series by Diana Gabaldon are definitely #booksthatmademehungry and apparently I wasn't alone, since there's a cookbook now. 👍

Mmmmmmm oatmeal scones with clotted cream. 😍

becausetrains Yum scones & cream 🍽😀 where does one get clotted cream in the United States? 8y
sprainedbrain @becausetrains I'm not sure... the recipe in this book calls for regular whipping cream, which you put in the oven on a really low temp for 8-12 hours, then let it cool overnight. It's time consuming but worth it! 8y
GlitteryOtters @becausetrains how badly do you want clotted cream? Because I discussed this with some British ex-pat friends a while back & they couldn't find it for sale, but did find recipes online (http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/clotted-cream-recipe.html#! For example) 8y
See All 6 Comments
bookishkai @becausetrains we used to be able to get it at our local King Soopers (aka Kroger or City Market). When I lived on the east coast I saw it in some Stop & Shop stores, and I think at SuperTarget. 8y
becausetrains @sprainedbrain @GlitteryOtters I'm definitely willing to try either one! @bookishkris we might be able to get it at Harris-Teeter or Wegmans. Next step: baking scones worthy of it 😏 8y
sprainedbrain @becausetrains it's always fun to try! I love baking. ❤️ 8y

Day 3 of #somethingforsept is #readandeat: To me Outlander Kitchen is a perfect inspiration for reading and eating because the author has taken excerpts from the Outlander series of books and created recipes to go along with them. I love opening up to a recipe and reading a passage to go along with it. I would have made something for you all to see with my picture today, but we are out of town for the weekend. #septemberphotochallenge

BooksForEmpathy Very cool! Did you like the Outlander series? My mother loves them, yet I think the heft of them intimidates me! Can't wait to hear your thoughts! 8y
MeganAnn @BooksForEmpathy I loved the Outlander series, although I can see how they could be intimidating! The first book starts off a little slow, but once I got into it I couldn't put it down and raced through the rest. Jamie and Claire are the kind of characters that once I found them, I couldn't get them out of my head and they have stayed with me ever since. 8y
Leelee08 ❤️❤️❤️ 8y
RealLifeReading Great photo and what a lovely tea cup! 8y
MeganAnn @RealLifeReading thank you! It was my grandmother's teacup 😍 8y

Unpacking some new books this morning at work- and I came across this! An #outlander cookbook! I can't say I'm very good at cooking..but Black Jack Randall's Dark Chocolate Lavender Fudge might be worth a try 😬📚

Leelee08 ❤️❤️❤️ 8y
aLmYbNeNr I borrowed this from my library, but I haven't looked at it yet. Looking forward to it! 8y
readinginthedark Dark Chocolate Lavender Fudge? That sounds amazing! I make mine with cinnamon and three kinds of chocolate--might have to try this! 8y
jessicarenee @readinginthedark oh my goodness. 3 kinds of chocolate sounds like heaven 😻🍫 8y
readinginthedark @jessicarenee 16 oz semisweet, 8 oz German sweet, 1 oz unsweet! It's amazing. Just divide the proportions the way you normally would with your normal fudge recipe. When I make it vegan for my sister, I substitute more semisweet for the German sweet. 8y
