Book 2 is a low pick for me. It has a lot of plot, but it had an aimless feeling to it. I did like the new characters though. #BeyondtheYellowBrickRoad

After Tip runs away from the witch who raised him, he teams up w/ the Scarecrow, the Tin Woodsman, & new friends to save the Emerald City from an army of revolters.
I forgot just how silly this one is! My dislike of General Jinjur & her army & the revolution storyline is mostly outweighed by my love for the Woggle-Bug‘s jokes, the Gump, & the Sawhorse! & I love the reactions to Ozma‘s reveal. & so much new world building!🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this for #BeyondTheYellowBrickRoad - I dunno about you guys but old Mombi here used to FREAK ME OUT when I was a kid, watching Return To Oz. The story in the movie is quite a bit different, but Mombi is an ever present evil throughout the book. I‘m amazed once again at the creativity of Mr. Baum & can only imagine what kids back then thought of these wonderful books. 5⭐️
Throwback to yesterday, when I reread a chunk of the second Oz book and saw what the world of tequila seltzers has to offer me. This particular one was too sweet. Hopefully the prickly pear can won‘t hit me the same way.
I got the ebook from Project Gutenberg and it‘s got the WEIRDEST formatting. According to the included facsimile pages, I read over 150 pages yesterday. According to Kobo, I read 30 and I‘m only 16% into the book. 🤷♀️

In some ways I liked this book more than the first in the series, though that could be because there‘s no movie-related nostalgia influencing my thoughts about this one. While I found one of the main characters annoying, I liked the twist with his character at the end.

After finishing this book, I remember watching a movie based on it as a kid. Now I'm determined to find it and rewatch it. 😁
This series is so much fun. I love how almost anything goes in the Land of Oz. Need a horse? No problem, make one out of wood and use magic to make it alive. Whimsical dialogue, outrageous characters, and fun adventures are all perfectly handled in the second book to this classic series.
I've set out to read all the OZ books. This book I have is over 40 years old and had the first 2 oz books in it. ❤️
This may be an unpopular opinion, but these books are not for me. I don‘t find them whimsical or charming, just downright tedious. Luckily they are fairly short books, but I think it‘s fair to say I won‘t be reading any more. 1⭐️
📖 The Marvelous Land of Oz -- L Frank Baum's Oz 2, with Jack Pumpkinhead 🎃
🎥 Trick 'r Treat -- I enjoyed seeing this movie twice for the 1st time this year; a DVD buy, and on the AMC channel. 🎃
🎵 Betty Grable's 'Haunted House' -- The humours of vintage tap dancing songs. 🎃

“With the point of his knife he made two round eyes, a three-cornered nose, and a mouth shaped like a new moon. The face, when completed, could not have been considered strictly beautiful; but it wore a smile so big and broad, and was so Jolly in expression, that even Tip laughed as he looked admiringly at his work.” 🎃

2 - Tootsie Rolls, I had braces for five and a half years. I could never eat them! 😭
3 - Watching Arsenic and Old Lace while passing out candy, four maybe five years
4 - My mother sewed me an Ozma of Oz dress when I was eight, made me the headress and wand and everything 🌺

I started this iBook as a read between work shifts, now arriving at the end while fully enjoying the story. Tip adventures with the Tin-Man and Scarecrow, with some new friends (Jack Pumpkinhead, Sawhorse, and Woggle-Bug) traveling in an enchanted flying sofa Gump. 😄💗 The magic wordplay and logic conversations are hilarious fun! I was glad to get reading this Book 2, as I'll sure keep on for the full Oz series in iBooks.
I kind of liked this story about Tipp and his adventures with Nick Chopper (Tin Man) and the Scarecrow.
Not sure why I waited so long to read this series I guess I thought it would be boring since I don‘t care for the movie.
“Presently Jack Pumpkinhead became uneasy.
‘I wonder if riding through the air is liable to spoil pumpkins,‘ he said.
‘Not unless you carelessly drop your head over the side,” answered the Woggle-Bug. ‘In that event your head would no longer be a pumpkin, for it would become a squash.‘”

Work had called 15 minutes late, the other day, to ask me about starting another hour later. 😛❄️ I was fine with sitting in the stairwell, getting to the iBooks digital of The Marvelous Land of Oz. I've sure waited long enough to get around to this one! 🎃 I'll tend to save these for outside break occasions. Now 2 years ago, I read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz on a bench near the Swiss Chalet job; arriving early on the bus.
“These females are also of the opinion that men have ruled the land long enough so they have captured the city, robbed the treasury of all its jewels, and are running things to suit themselves.” 😂 Who knew L Frank Baum was such a feminist? #eveningcommute #feminist
"You must acknowledge that a good heart is a thing that brains cannot create, and that money cannot buy. Perhaps, after all, it is I who is the richest man in all the world."
"You may have noticed that if one has money without brains, he cannot use it to advantage; but if one has brains without money, they will enable him to live comfortably to the end of his days."
"That proves you are unusual," returned the Scarecrow. "And I am convinced that the only people worthy of consideration in this world are the unusual ones. For the common folks are like the leaves of a tree, and live and die unnoticed."
November 18: #bookstack It‘s a windy, balmy 80 degrees in South Louisiana this weekend before Thanksgiving. And once again, I am taking a picture of a #fall bookstack in summer conditions. There‘s no place like home, that‘s for sure! 😂 Happy Thanksgiving Week, everyone! 🍂🍁🍄 #lilbookishthanks #itssohotthough #oldbooks #OZ #vintageOZ
The pumpkins! Prompt made me think of Jack Pumpkinhead from the Oz books. #pumpkins! #hallowreads
This book was nonsense!!! Lol, I must have started it at least 2 years ago when I got the whole collection for $3. I read the Wonderful Wizard of Oz and that was cool. This was crazy! Mombi, Captain Jinjur and her knitting needles, that Woggle Bug and the Gump...lol, I know it all had a purpose but what a strange story!!
things about this book that I didn't know until today:
1) original title was The Marvelous Land Of Oz and it's the sequel to the Wizard of Oz.
2) the "popular edition" has the original copyright of 1904 but was probably published in the late 20s or early 30s. it also has black and white plates instead of color plates.
3) it would be worth more money if i had the dust jacket (oh, well)!

I cast another coin wish, in the iBooks well of classic wonders. This is the text only version of L. Frank Baum's Oz book # 2, while price variations should include illustrations. I'm going to save it though for after I finish reading Gregory Maguire's own 'Out of Oz' in the Wicked series. Comic spinoffs and other variations do feature one of Oz's original lead royals, and yet a lesser known history story, in The Marvelous Land of Oz. 🎃🔮🎀
4⭐️- while it was very slow for the majority of the book, I did enjoy the story in its conclusion. The characters are quite lovable, and Baum comes up with the most outlandish names (H M Wogglebug T E, Mr Knowitall to name a few).
One of our oldest editions in the library, but still in great shape and is checked out quite a bit. Reliving my childhood- looking forward to rediscovering this series!
Pumpkin + Scarecrow = New companion to listen to The Marvelous Land of Oz with. He's not quite Jack Pumpkinhead, but he fills in nicely. (Available on Audible.)

I can't believe I didn't know there was an "Oz" series! Here goes reading book number 2!
The Wizard of Oz has been a huge part of my life but I only read the first book in the last few years. I love all of the stories that have come from and are inspired by this world so I want to know more about true original world.
