The Silent Patient - Alex Michaelides
The Silent Patient - Alex Michaelides | Alex Michaelides
The Silent Patient - Alex Michaelides THIS IS AN EBOOK NOT THE PHYSICAL BOOK (PDF VERSION) NO PHYSICAL BOOK WILL BE SHIPPED Product Description The Silent Patient - Alex Michaelides "The Silent Patient is a shocking psychological thriller of a womans act of violence against her husband - and of the therapist obsessed with uncovering her motive. Alicia Berensons life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of Londons most desirable areas. One evening, her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicias refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London. Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations - a search for the truth that threatens to consume him...." What a twist ending! I certainly didn‘t expect that. This thriller was hard to put down. Alicia is very troubled and confined to an asylum. She hasn‘t spoken since she murdered her husband. Theo is the psychotherapist who is obsessed with her. I may never think of therapists in the same way again!

The twist at the end I've seen from reviews is love it or hate it. I honestly thought of it and rejected it because it didn't make sense to me at the time I thought about it then BAM it happened. I've also heard it was perhaps poorly edited but because I listened to it I didn't notice that and was able to just enjoy the story. Definitely a good spoopy season read.

Michreader3 I agree with this, the first time I read the plot twist I had to reread the page a few times because I didn‘t quite understand what was happening 7mo

This is the #1 book I always recommend. A perfect slow build to a jaw-dropping twist. As I continue to read in this genre, I keep thinking about this one.

I‘m so glad the infidelity comes up just as soon as you see how much Theo loves Kathy, instead of dragging you on with hope and dread like most books of this nature. The latter always rips me up unnecessarily.

If I talk about the best thriller books I have ever read
then The silent patient is surely one of them.

Five gun shot.
And six years of silence!!

The story hooked me from the start and didn't let go
until the end.

Just finished The Silent Patient by Alex Machaelides 🙌🏻 Excellent read!! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The plot, the characters… kept me guessing to the end - an ending which I didn‘t expect. Great beach vacation book, short enough yet packs a lot of drama and tension. A mystery to the very last sentence.

I did like the book even though I could see after awhile where it was going and what the twist was. The ending was just kinda there even though I knew it was coming. I give it 3 stars cause it is a good book and I'd read it again but idk if I would put it on my favorites list

🎭 THE SILENT PATIENT🎭
by Alex Michaelides

Five fatal gunshots.
Six years of silence.
What are her first words?

This book is a psychological thriller in which a lady, Alicia shoots her husband, after six years of marriage and then goes silent for the next six years.

Everything about the plot, language, and climax worked well for me.

Between this book and “The Maidens”, I can say that I‘m definitely an Alex Michaelides fan & look forward to reading more books by him. As a Greek Classics scholar and someone who is writing a retelling, I appreciate how he uses the Greek myths in a way that deep dives into the history and psychology involved and then shows a different way of looking at the myths.

This is one of those books where there's been so much hype that you know it's going to fall short of expectations, but because of all the hype, you have to give it a shot to find out what all the fuss is about. However, even though I expected to be let down, I wasn't! There were several nice twists, and while they weren't all completely unexpected, some were definitely crafty! Considering that this was a debut book, color me impressed!

LoverOfLearning I enjoyed this one too and I really didn't see the twist coming at the end! So plus! 2y

December 21, 2021 Listers! I finally came to the end of the book. It was such a roller coaster. The author depicts so much with in the last 100 pages of the book. I COULD NOT STOP READING. I wanted to see for myself whether Theo would indeed help Alicia out and get her to talk again OR if Alicia was going to be silent the whole time. There were a lot of parts in the book that made me speechless and also feel sad for Alicia. 5/5

lilpumpkin2.0 What happened at the end? Did Alicia kill Gabriel or did someone else kill Gabriel?? Who was the man who was staring at Alicia's house and making her uncomfortable and endure fantasies 2y

I bullied a coworker into reading Gone Girl, and they made me read this in the spirit of reciprocity. This book is about a famous artist who murders her husband and refuses to speak another word after. (Which, honestly is a smart legal strategy) A psychotherapist enters and is determined to get to the bottom of things. This book is built on unreliable info, which is not good for the pandemic trust issues I've developed over the past year 😩

#LittensDressedInBlood Today‘s prompt is: Every Breathe You Take. For me that brings to mind obsession, stalking, the warped mind that mistakes possession for love. I recently read the tagged book and it was the third book that came to mind for today‘s prompt. I‘ll tag the other two books in the comments.

MidnightBookGirl Let's face it, Every Breathe You Take is probably Joe's theme song, and he probably finds it terribly romantic. 3y
MidnightBookGirl I won't apologize for the love that Twilight once held in my heart, my friends and I bonded over this series, and even went to the Midnight release of book 4 together and spent all night reading, just like we did with the HP books... and we were adults. But Edward's sojourns into Bella's room to watch her sleep is definitely worthy of this song and all of it's darker implications. 3y
WJCintron I haven't read it yet! But I've heard a lot of great things about it!! 3y

I just thought this was ok... I'm trying to clean up my "reading" list on goodreads. My library switched ebook/audio book systems a few months ago. I miss our old system. We did use Overdrive. I'm sloooooowly getting used to cloud library. Do any if you use it?

rabbitprincess My hometown library switched to CloudLibrary and I find the interface clunky and the catalogue less well stocked than the old Overdrive catalogue 😕 3y
TravelsWithBooks I use Libby. 3y
kricheal @rabbitprincess is there a way to request books on there. I haven't figured it out yet. I know on Overdrive I could request up to 99 books they didn't have in their catalog a day. 3y
See All 13 Comments
kricheal @TravelsWithBooks I used to be able to switch between Overdrive and Libby with no issue because they were both supported. They reportedly made the switch for "more content"... I'm not a fan. 3y
Myhusbandhatesreading I have both available but still use Overdrive…it‘s just what I‘m used too. I know at some point I am sure our library will switch totally over to Libby too. 😕 3y
Jennaree3 I agree. I thought this book was good, but certainly not great. People raved about it and I was waiting for some great creative work of literary prowess…which, unfortunately, never came 😆 3y
kricheal @Jennaree3 I think the hype made me rate it lower than I would have normally. I felt so let down. 3y
rabbitprincess @kricheal I haven‘t found a way, but I haven‘t looked for one. My hometown library is my « backup » library so I don‘t use it very often. 3y
kricheal @rabbitprincess what do you use if you don't mind me asking? I think I'm going to look elsewhere. 3y
rabbitprincess @kricheal My main library (Ottawa, ON) is an Overdrive/Libby library. 3y
absolutebookish My library did the same a while back & I'm still not happy about it. It glitches a lot: highlights & notes disappear, books close randomly or have trouble downloading, dictionary doesn't always work, app shuts down. 😖 What I do for requests is go to SEARCH, click the FILTERS at the top right, & switch the toggle on for SUGGESTIONS FOR LIBRARY. Then when you search titles your library doesn't have, you can click SUGGEST so your library can get it. 3y
absolutebookish @kricheal You're welcome! ^_^ 3y

I usually don‘t gravitate to thrillers but my mom sent me this one so I gave it a try. I read it in a day because I was so enthralled.

The story centers on a woman who goes silent after her husband has been murdered. A psychotherapist tries to figure out why she is silent. And, that is all I‘ll say about the plot.

I recommend this book if you like whodunnits.
