You'll Be the Death of Me
You'll Be the Death of Me | Karen M McManus
From the author of One of Us Is Lying comes a brand-new pulse-pounding thriller. It's Ferris Bueller's Day Off with murder when three old friends relive an epic ditch day, and it goes horribly--and fatally--wrong. Ivy, Mateo, and Cal used to be close. Now all they have in common is Carlton High and the beginning of a very bad day. Type A Ivy lost a student council election to the class clown, and now she has to face the school, humiliated. Heartthrob Mateo is burned out--he's been working two jobs since his family's business failed. And outsider Cal just got stood up . . . again. So when Cal pulls into campus late for class and runs into Ivy and Mateo, it seems like the perfect opportunity to turn a bad day around. They'll ditch and go into the city. Just the three of them, like old times. Except they've barely left the parking lot before they run out of things to say . . . . . . until they spot another Carlton High student skipping school--and follow him to the scene of his own murder. In one chance move, their day turns from dull to deadly. And it's about to get worse. It turns out Ivy, Mateo, and Cal still have some things in common. They all have a connection to the dead kid. And they're all hiding something. Now they're all wondering--could it be that their chance reconnection wasn't by chance after all?

Ivy, Mateo, & Cal ditch school, but they‘re not the only ones. They follow their classmate, only to find him dead. They spend the rest of the day uncovering clues as to who murdered him.

This one was a good pallet cleanser. It was a quick read. I liked that it all occurred in one day & there was some romance. I just didn‘t like the additional ending, & I wished there was more diversity in characters.

vy, Mateo and Cal used to be two best friends but their interests changes overtime of their friendship. They all run into each other after having a bad day. They decide to skip class and go into the city just like they use too. They find a fellow student at their school and follow them.

danicavanee7danica.vanee They didn‘t know they were following him to his own murder. They also didn‘t know that they were all hiding something from each other. They wonder if they weren‘t just brought together by chance. 12mo

Enjoyed this #Audio . It was easily engaging :)

Hubby surprised me with flowers yesterday. After such a challenging work day it was such a wonderful surprise (also like same wavelength type of thing he had no clue what had happened at work yet)

I love hearing/reading stories from multiple perspectives. Ivy, Cal, and Mateo rekindle their middle school friendship only to become wrapped up in the murder of a classmate. They are witnesses turned suspects, and no one is safe. Another homerun by McManus!

Three former friends who've drifted apart over the years are thrown back together when they decide to skip school together. They stumble into a crime scene, where one of their classmates is dead.

This one was between a pick and so-so for me, but I gave it a pick because it started out well. I just don't think it was as well-written as her others, and the ending felt rushed, weak, and fairly unbelievable.

4✨Another great read from Karen M. McManus! Three teens, that were past friends, decide to skip school. Their reconnection adventure goes really wrong when they stumble upon a dead peer. As the main mystery unfolds so to personal ones between them. My only complaint would be the sudden unfinished ending where a problem character may cause more issues for the three teens. #Scarathon #TeamSlaughter @Clwojick Word search total 189! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I've continued to read all of McManus' YA novels to date, because they are well-written, with well-developed characters, and a suspenseful plot. I enjoy them at my age, and I would have loved them as a teenager.

Book 73🎧 2⭐️

Hmmm…Meh🤷🏼‍♀️ I always have high hopes for this author but overall this one falls flat… which seems to be a common occurrence for me.
I just don‘t connect with the characters, nothing truly locked me in to the story.
It could be due to it being an audiobook?
The ending was an improvement🙃

I will keep trying her books in hopes that one will shine!

This was a good crime/teenager thriller with three friends who hadn't really hung out together for ages. They picked a bad day to start their friendship again. I suppose you kinda know how it ends but still enjoyed it.

I just love K. M. McManus books!
This one is also well written YA high school drama with mystery crime, full of secrets and of sinister discoveries. It is an interesting and entertaining read. 😁

And the good news that there will be one more new book by her - Nothing More to Tell! 🤘

There's no denying that parts of this were suspenseful, but I couldn't help comparing this to her other books…..and it kind of underwhelmed. I was more interested in the dynamics of the friendship than in the mystery, and even that didn't make me feel vested enough to stay glued to the pages like she usually keeps me, which is a shame because I wanted to love this one so badly! Entertaining, but definitely not her strongest. Soft pick.

Another McManus in the books. I really hope there is a sequel or an extended epilogue after that cliffhanger 👀 I liked the addition of the Carlton speaks YouTube channel though 😂 And believe that I am finding some sugar babies later today. 😉

I'm a sucker for some YA mystery/suspense type of books. I have yet to read The Cousins and You'll Be the Death of Me but enjoyed reading the others. I find them so quick to get through but also keep me on the edge of my seat and trying to guess what the fuck is going to happen next 😂

This was actually more of a pan for me, but giving it a bump because I normally love this author's stuff. The mystery and story was interesting, but honestly I hated all the characters except for one. Everyone felt so "juvenile", and I found myself literally rolling my eyes as we learned more about everyone's individual motivations. Not McManus best!

Karen M. McManus remains my go-to author for quick, YA thrillers. This one wasn‘t quite as exciting as some of her others, but still enjoyable enough. 3⭐️

Nalbuque Never read her, what would you rec starting with? 2y
candority @Nalbuque I‘ve read her books in publication order. Her first - One of Us Is Lying - is the most popular. I also enjoyed Two Can Keep A Secret (it sounds like it could be a sequel, but it‘s not). They do have a lot of YA thriller tropes, but they‘re fun! 2y

3¼⭐

The narration was quite excellent…the story was only okay.

It had all the makings of a Karen McManus book, great characters, a fun retelling of sorts, and a murderous mystery…but it was missing something. It just didn‘t grab me, it was so trivial for the first three-quarters and the last quarter, which was good, just wasn‘t enough to carry the book as a whole.
