Snow Crash | Neal Stephenson

Mehso-so

I didn‘t hate this book, but I wasn‘t sad when it was over. I might have had too-high expectations (I absolutely LOVE Seveneves by this author), but while I enjoyed the clever premise, the world building and most of the humor, this 90s-published book felt very dated, and the characters were a bit thinly developed, I did like Hiro Protagonist (lol) and YT, but disliked the casual racism and the one sex scene in the book was gross. So… ugh.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

sprainedbrain I should also mention, for an Audible exclusive, I was not impressed with the quality of the audiobook in general, or the narrator specifically. Maybe the audio was also too dated… but this was my ‘weather term in the title‘ book for #Booked2022 and also ticked the technology themed box for the #52BookClubChallenge so there‘s that. 2y
DuckOfDoom I had similar thought when I read it. It felt very dated to me and Stephenson is always hit and miss. Loved The Rise and Fall of Dodo but really disliked Fall, Or Dodge in Hell, both read as #buddyread with @julesG 2y
Oryx I also loved Seveneves but bailed on this one. 2y

Bk1 of January 2022 & #JumpStart2022 is done! And it‘s Bk3 of #NewYearSpecial #20in4 #readathon. Plus I got a ton of #audiojournaling RC for this year & this crossed off a few prompts already🙌I freaking loved this book! I highly recommend the audiobook, read by Dave as he‘s so funny & personable, it‘s like having a story told by a mate over a few beers. Awesome man, awesome writer.❤️ #NonFictionBingo2022 #Roll100 #Pop22 #AudiobookChallenge2022👇

Bk3 of December & #WinterGames2021 is done. And what a beautiful book it was! A lovely meditation on the meaning of life during a journey taken by a disillusioned Tea Monk & a Wild-Built robot called Mosscap. So sweet. #BookspinBingo #Pop21 #SpaceTimeReads #52BookClubChallenge #BooklistQueenChallenge #MonthlyKeywordGXO #Pageathon #PennyPerPage #AVeryMerryBingo #AVeryMerryReadathon #WinterCosy #WrapItUpReadathon #MistletoeManiacs 856pts👇

Bk8 of August & Bk5 of #AwesomeAugust #readathon is done! Read as an audiobook on Scribd, I finished it today whilst sewing in the ends for my new scarf. I‘m very happy with it, but I‘m not sure if I should make tassels for the ends or leave them alone? The book was horrifying, tragic & very informative. Told from the POV of a few residents of the city, it describes a hellscape I‘m not sure I‘d want to live through.War is hell. #NonFictionBingo👇

Lauredhel Nice! I‘m not a tassel person, but you do you :) 3y
julesG Yeah! You could add pompoms. But I'd probably leave it as it is. #knittersofLitsy 3y

Andrew65 I think I‘d leave it as it is too. Stunning time. (edited) 3y
Librarybelle Love the scarf as is, but if you would like to add tassels, I‘d say go for it! 3y
TheAromaofBooks Love your scarf. I'm personally all about tassels 😂 3y
Lizpixie @Lauredhel @julesG @Andrew65 @Librarybelle @TheAromaofBooks thank you for the suggestions! I think I‘m leaving it as is, it‘s too chunky to add tassels to. My next scarf is a patterned one that will suit tassels more I think, then I might do a beanie with a pompom if I can master pattern work👍🧶🧣 3y
kaysworld1 I love that scarf 😍 3y

Bk6 of August & Bk3 of #AwesomeAugust #readathon is done! This was July‘s #owlcrate book & it was fantastic! There‘s been a few YA witchy books lately and most have been brilliant, this one among them. A little bit Garden Spells, a dash of Ancient Greek myths & a pinch of Roz from Sabrina stirred with an Owens spoon. Magic✨ #Booked2021 #Blackjack21 #PickYourPoison #NerdReading2021 #52BookClubChallenge #Pageathon #PennyPerPage #BookspinBingo

Bk7 of July is done. Wow. This book was both really hard to read and compelling as hell at the same time. Anything with neglected and/or abused kids makes my stomach hurt(bad memories)but the story & characters had me riveted. How can you pass on a hard as nails 13yr old called Duchess Day Radley? Highly recommend but be warned, it‘s not an easy read. #ChunksterChallenge #52BookClubChallenge #CloakDaggerChal #Pageathon #PennyPerPage #BookspinBingo

Bk27 of June & Bk1 of #20in4 #readathon is done! At first this seemed like a Daisy Jones knockoff, but it turned into a beautiful book in its own right.Set very much in the folk/rock scene of the early 70s, it has a softer side than Daisy coz Jane has her family in this which makes all the difference. Looking back now, you can see that control & drugs were the music industry then, I wonder if much has changed at all? Loved this.✌️#BookspinBingo👇

Bk24 of June & Bk17 of #JoysOfJune #readathon is done! This will most probably be the last finished book of the readathon but I definitely achieved way more than the goals I set, which is brilliant. My first Feeney, I very much enjoyed this. The ending completely blindsided me, I had no idea of the killers identity till then(which doesn‘t happen often anymore)so that says a lot about the book. Highly recommend. #Pop21 #52BookClubChallenge 👇👇

Bk8 of May & Bk5 of #NutsInMay #readathon is done! I read this as audio on Scribd & loved it. It reminded me a lot of Stars Are Legion by Kameron Hurley except in this it‘s African descendants travelling the stars in living ships in a Matriarchal society where men are treated like women for a change(sorry male Littens!)Its quirky, a little bit weird but highly enjoyable with LGBTQ rep as well. 4⭐️ #LitsyAtoZ2021 #LetterE #Pop21 #PickYourPoison👇
