Going tenuous this morning!

If you Google #barracuda from here, you may reach the Bridport and West Bay website, home of the Bridport Barracudas swimming team. West Bay is the main filming location of Broadchurch. The novel was inspired by the tv drama.

Some of the series was filmed on campus when I worked at the uni. Always fun to be late for work because David Tennant‘s interviewing suspects outside the library front door!

My other book from #dollartree #cheapbooks #dollarbooks #broadchurch I‘ve watched all of Broadchurch and watched the American remake Gracepoint (I loved both FYI - the writing works better on Broadchurch but the cinematography is much better on Gracepoint). I may as well read the novel as well. Lol

Vexingcircumstance @cinfhen I occasionally find the most random stuff there. Before Christmas I found the AChristmas Carol coloring book there. The expensive one made for adults with the detailed drawings. They had one copy. I bought it and gave it to my mom for Christmas. I also occasionally find really good DVDs there. 5y

@GingerAntics They had Broadchurch! There was no book jacket, so I wasn‘t sure it was the right one, but I opened it up and saw “Mark Latimer.” I think this was my favorite find!

5🌟 The book is somehow even better than the show, because it has extra little tidbits. You get more of the internal life of the characters, things that are only implied in the show. Can't wait to watch again now, with the new, extra knowledge. I held it together at the end of the last episode, but there is so much more detail on Danny's funeral and the beach that night. I'm not a crier, but I was crying through the last few chapters. 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

gradcat I loved the show—well, the British version...didn‘t see the American one. Am I really showing my ignorance by admitting that I didn‘t know it was a book?!? 5y

GingerAntics @gradcat no, it seems a lot of people didn't know, and honestly shows to books often sick. This one was remarkably successful. I think the Story itself is just that good. The American version got stuck opposite Thursday night football on bloody Fox. They touted this great different ending and it felt like a cop out to me. I know people who loved it, though. DT with an American accent is a hoot, to be honest. lol 5y

gradcat @GingerAntics I saw the first episode. I think it‘s very funny—not broad humor, mind—what with Jennifer Garner‘s need to control everything + Juliette Lewis‘ complete abandon! Probably not for everyone (as the critics seem to be saying) but I like it. I wonder if it‘s as good as the UK version—I haven‘t seen that one. 5y

GingerAntics @TheWordJar it's called Gracepoint and she's not Miller and he's not Hardy. He's Emmett Carver. I can't remember what her name was. Apparently David Tennant being in it was contractual. He said in an interview he wanted to do it, but even if he hadn't wanted to do it he would have had to do it anyway. His voice is somehow lower and gravellier in American English. He sounds kind of Mid-Western. It's adorable. (edited) 5y

GingerAntics @TheWordJar It's actually really good. It's the exact show (you can imagine each episode go by), but the extra little tidbits are great. I imagine the next time I watch the show that it's going to be even better. You get those little internal/mental notes on various characters. It's great. 5y

Loved the show, figured it was about time to really read the novel. I remember starting it once and thinking "wow that's gender normative" and putting it down. I saw it at the library as an audiobook and thought I'd give it a go again. The kindle version I have looks like the left, but the audiobook looks like the right. Here's hoping it's better than I remember.

I just finished season 3 a few minutes ago and I feel like I was punched in the gut. It makes me very scared /sad about the narcissism and utter lack of empathy that is now the norm. Anyone else watch?!

batsy I just watched it for the first time and finished the first season a few days ago. I'm still reeling and need to recover before the second. I'm amazed at how they did the big reveal without making it seem like a cheap trick at the expense of characters. It just seemed like something that could happen, based on how much we don't know about people 💔 7y

I know it's always been a possibility, as we saw with Missy. However, I love the show with a male doc and his female counterpart. I don't like the idea of a woman becoming the next Doctor. 🙄 7y

monkeygirlsmama @jenniferw88 I will say you're right there, in reserving judgement. I didn't think I'd like Capaldi too much, but despite the flack a lot of people have given him I adore him. So, while I won't completely rule out liking the next Doctor, I certainly am not over the moon excited. 7y

I don't want to start my new year challenges in Dec so I've set myself a mini challenge 🤓 #7booksin7days This was a good start: a well-crafted whodunnit with lots of twists and turns and an unexpected (if abrupt) conclusion. Loved the character of DS Miller especially when I imagined her as Olivia Coleman who's an amazing actress. #book1 #christmastimereads
