I'm a huge fan of celeb memoirs, Rainn Wilson, and The Office, but this was just a so-so book for me.

I‘m a huge office fan. I quote it daily so I knew I had to read it. Yeah there was a couple slow parts. I mean it‘s a memoir so not everything is going to be action packed but I enjoyed it. He is really funny.
My review of this book can be found on my Youtube Vlog at:

Enjoy!
⭐️⭐️⭐️ Very accurate subtitle. The man notably known as the delightful weirdo Dwight Schrute tells his life story thus far. I had completely forgotten he was on Six Feet Under for a bit. God, I loved that show. Best series finale of all time. I digress. This is a solid celebrity memoir. Nothing juicy, just straight forward, and often funny, storytelling.
I enjoyed this book! Usually i lose interest in memoirs after i have read about 2/3 of the book. But this one kept my interest all the way through. He has lead an interesting life and he talking about many different topics, which helped to keep my attention!
Week 12: A celebrity biography
Reading: The Bassoon King. Art, Idiocy, and Other Sordid Tales from the Band Room
Book mail!!!! Best part of my day!!!! Besides of course the highlight where @LiteraryinLititz told me there‘s a new Great British Baking Show season available! 😂
Loved this audiobook. It‘s so smart and funny. If you‘re a Dwight fan, it‘s a must read/listen.
My husband and I started watching The Office (we are almost done with season 2) and I felt compelled to listen to this on audiobook. So far, I am LOVING it. So funny!!
I didn‘t ever think that Rainn Wilson would be a person I would want to hang out with. Until I listened to his audiobook. 💯
I think this is my first “bail” on Litsy. I tried guys, and I got about half way through. I love The Office, but I think maybe Rainn should have waited another 10 years or so before writing a book. His childhood was interesting, but I‘m just not interested in his young adult stories. Anyone who‘s read it, can you tell me if it gets better?
I came for The Office anecdotes and ended up with way too much Baha‘i faith for my tastes. The last chapter in the audiobook is an addendum to the paper book (as I found out when perusing it in B&N today) and is a detailed history of the religion and feels like a sales pitch, I should‘ve skipped it. At the book‘s conclusion you'll be a Baha'i expert. There are some fun stories throughout but the heavy-handed ending didn‘t work for me.
I‘m wish I would‘ve skipped the lengthy addendum about Baha‘I but I was on a long road trip and after hearing it talked about at length I wanted to know why it was superior. Turns out it began like most other religions, with lucid dreams and hallucinations.
Or as Mark Twain once said, “faith is believing what you know ain‘t so.”
I went back to the best religion ever (and later I‘ll spend pages and pages later explaining why my religion is best) because I don‘t understand science. Read some Hawking or Lawrence Krauss. Please. 😖
I‘m pretty much done with this book. I have enjoyed very little of it but I connect with his 80s experiences and share similar music tastes. I‘ve seen Bob play more times than I can count in Minneapolis and twice in Chi-town. My favorite music man, he is.
This resonated with me, so I thought I‘d share. Love the GoT reference, but mostly, this social commentary is on point.
Just finished this awesome memoir— In my car 10 minutes before work. It is one of the most thoughtful celebrity memoirs I‘ve read.
My boyfriend surprised me with this find yesterday. So far, I‘ve only read the forward by Dwight Schrute, but I‘m already loving this.
I have been a fan of Wilson‘s work since The Office, but it was great to get more insight into the man who brought Dwight K. Schrute to life. There are a couple of chapters who are duds, but the rest of the book is great.

#Audiocoloring while listening to the hilarious Rainn Wilson, better known as Dwight Schrute from The Office. I'm getting an eye exam today after I'm done with classes. It will be my first one in years and I may be getting glasses, depending on the results. (I've definitely noticed my eyes are changing.) But my anxiety is starting to kick in since I'll be doing the full exam and I've never had my pupils dilated. 😱
I love Dwight. This was a pretty good read and I'm glad I listened to Rainn Wilson reading it!
Catching up on #readingwomenmonth: Day 14, signed book
"The Bassoon King" by Rainn Wilson funny and fascinating, and I'm only on chapter three. It is the book I wish I'd written. Also, he narrates his own audiobook, which is as close to perfection as one could hope. #basoonking #Dwight #RainnWilson #memoirs #humor #hometownhero
You know how sometimes people add a subtitle to their books just so there is one, but the book isn't actually about that? This is a celebrity memoir, so that's what I expected. I was wrong. "My Life in Art, Faith, and Idiocy" is a perfect subtitle for this book. And the art and faith parts were really fascinating to me. The idiocy? Not so much. 2/3 isn't bad. So if you're a fan of Rainn Wilson or Soul Pancake, read this. The audio version is good.
I had high hopes going into this one but it fell into the trap that I feared it would. Outside of Dwight Schrute, I don't find Wilson very funny. So I figured he would either A) force funny or B) resort to Dwight to be funny, and he did both. Don't get me wrong, the book was funny and entertaining but it over wore it welcome. I only wanted Office stuff and I got wayyyyy too much of his religious side. I read it, closed it, and said "meh".
4.5🌟 Rainn Wilson is hilarious, and you don't have to be a fan of The Office to enjoy this humorous memoir. He writes about his unconventional upbringing, early career struggles, and his life on The Office, with a few asides for serious matters.

Off to work at my office. 😉😉
Okay, I'm sold.
New audiobook!
If you are not a Rainn Wilson fan, I doubt this book will make you one. It was interesting, but not so much so that I didn‘t take a two-week break from listening to it. I wonder if it would have seemed as snarky and preachy had I read it instead of listening to the audio. I was most interested in his childhood – probably because we are the same age and his was so incredibly different. He also went off on tangents & shared a lot of lists.
Fun enough read. I listened in the car. Generally, I don't like authors to read their own audiobooks; but, Rainn, like most comedians/comic actors (e.g. Steve Martin & Billy Crystal) is an exception to that rule, IMHO.
My favorite part was toward the end, in the 10 Things I Know For Sure section. It's the Game of Thrones entry. I won't spoil it for you. I hope you find it as perfectly funny as I do (even as a non-GOT reader/watcher).
I enjoyed this more then I thought I would. Rainn had a pretty interesting start in life which I am always interested in. A fair amount of this book talks about his faith which I don't usually care for but it was done in a non preachy way that was not uncomfortable.

Listening to this on audiobook. Apparently it is to loud for some members of the household.

Wilson narrates the audiobook himself. This should be enough to get the attention of The Office fans.
Unique things about me 1. I worship at the church of Dwight Schrute. It lifts my soul. 2. I am freaked out by ALL monkeys, apes, gorillas. Planet of the Apes is real shit yo. 3. I'm happily retired from dating. I put in 25 yrs which was plenty. 4. I am from Detroit... Suburbs. But I love the street cred so I leave off "suburb" 5. I once jumped in a lake with all my students in October. (Not my idea and parent ok'd!) #day14 #augustphotochallenge
I'm one disc into this audio, and enjoying it so far! I didn't realize he was Ba'hai.
