I enjoyed reading this one with the #OokBOokClub. Pratchett pokes fun at gender stereotypes, the military, government propaganda and much more. I loved the diverse cast of characters. @julesG

kwmg40 @PuddleJumper Sorry, I had to resubmit my form for #gottacatchemall. I didn't realize the first time around that I'd actually caught Lycanroc Midnight! 1d
TheSpineView Awesome! 1d
julesG Love the cover of this edition. Also, it didn't occur to me to use Discworld for the crossover prompts of the #52bookclub25. Thanks for planting the idea. 24h

This is one of my favorites, if not my most favorite, in the Discworld series. Pratchett hit the nail on the head again. His take on government is spot on. As usual, there are laughs throughout the story. 4.5 ⭐

Cut your hair. Put on trousers. Pack your bag. And don't forget to pack an extra pair of socks.

kwmg40 After working through the Rincewind books, many of which were heavily dominated by male characters, it was refreshing to see a more diverse and interesting cast. I especially liked Igorina and Jackrum. I also liked how Pratchett poked fun at the conventions of warfare and at the propaganda that tends to surround wars. 3d
BookmarkTavern I think Maladict and Polly were my favorites. I‘ve always related to Polly a lot, being the caretaker so long it becomes habit. And I found myself paying a lot more attention to the politics and religious fanaticism of Borogovia. It feels a lot more relevant right now. 😅 3d

julesG @BookmarkTavern it does feel very relevant right now. 3d
julesG Polly is my favourite, but Maladict and Igor sure are second. And Jackrum, of course. 3d
BookmarkTavern @julesG I really didn‘t like Jackrum the first time through. I thought they were abrasive and a bully. But, on reread, knowing what we know about the character, I appreciated them a lot more. (edited) 3d

Polly, in an effort to save her brother & their inn, dresses as a man & joins the army. She discovers that everything, from her friends in the army to the war itself aren‘t quite what they seem.

I apparently need to reread a lot of these. I really appreciate the satire of nationalism (proud of being proud🇺🇸) organized religion, & gender more than the 1st time I read it. I do think there were too many characters to keep track of.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
