#ShelfTalker day! Today we're featuring @hwheaties , a high school English teacher and book blogger. Check out her interview on our Facebook page!

http://buff.ly/2hqbR8T

CherylDeFranceschi I did the update on my iPhone and now Litsy is frozen at opening. Anyone else having this problem? I want to play with the new features! 7y
tnociti Uncomfortable read during this time in the US! 7y
TheLadyArtemis @tnociti So agreed. So much of the news today feels like a precursor to a dystopian future. 7y
See All 63 Comments
TheLadyArtemis This is such an important read, especially with the current climate in this country. 7y
tnociti @TheLadyArtemis definitely. My daughter is in college and in going to make her read it! 7y
hwheaties A big thank you to @Litsy for having me as a #ShelfTalker it was fun! 7y
hwheaties @tnociti Definitely. But necessary. 7y
hwheaties @tnociti @TheLadyArtemis I'm considering having my 16yo daughter read it. That's the age I was when I first read it. 7y
Bengali.bookworm My favorite Atwood novel 7y
SKary29 Atwood is one of the best novelists alive. I just adore her!! 7y
RobinOHara I loved this book. So unique. To me it's about reaching inside for strength, doing the right thing, and finding warmth in a cold, cold world. 7y
Bonnie2 I have always considered this one of the scariest books I have read as a woman. I have also been known to give it to young women to read. 7y
Maria.Bpl Personally, I love Margaret Atwood and The Handmaid's Tale was an eye-opener in high school because it was the first novel we read where the protagonist was a woman and not a man in a dystopian society. 7y
bookgirl320 I read this book every year, and each year it gets scarier and scarier. 7y
jfbalke I've read other Atwood boods but never this one, so I finally got around to reading it right before the election and ended up finishing it afterwards. As a result, it got darker than I had even expected. 7y
Maude-sarah I'm currently doing my dissertation about the representation of women in the Handmaids tale 7y
HMG I studied for A Level, I really think that this book had a profound impact on me. I still have my copy 17 years on, full of notes, ready to pass to my daughters when they are old enough. 7y
SarahPolaris I studied The Handmaid's Tale for A-Level as part of our "Struggle for Identity" module. My essay focused on the 'subjugation of women' and I remember I thoroughly enjoyed writing it. It's still on my bookshelf and - on reflection - has definitely had a marked impact on my life and indeed my chosen career path! I sincerely hope all who read it, immerse themselves in the story and are able to get something from it. 7y
NoConfusion Its LIT 7y
JulieR By far my favorite Atwood book! This story was a page turner. 7y
PegHerring Also my favorite of hers. I was privileged to hear her speak last fall in Michigan. What a treasure she is! 7y
Nageki This is one of the best books I have ever read and will surely read it again before the movie is relased in Italy ❤ 7y
BrittBasse Favorite ❤ 7y
a_bookish_shelf I bought it just last week. I can't wait to get into it! 7y
Bookwoman99 Read this years ago and loved it. 7y
armyof7 Read this as a independent study class in high school. Loved it so much my teacher gave me his personal copy 7y
Elle91 Read that so many times......amazing 7y
kostadimer Read this as a teenager. Awesome novel. Also recommend Atwood's Oryx and Crake and The Edible Woman. 7y
mommytrax Atwood is an incredible storyteller and a thinker as well. 7y
CPhelps I never read it In high school, but I want to read it before I start watching!! 7y
Mary25 Atwood's books are great! Her imaginary is crazy and it will capture you and encourage you to read on. 7y
Erinxx90 Started watching the tv series this week 7y
Smothette I started watching it too. Might stop now and read the book. But I'm already halfway through another 2 novels, I can't start reading another 🙈 7y
Melanie42 I read this years ago and am enjoying watching the TV series. 7y
Awashi97 I just finished this book few days ago and now I'm watching the series which is amazing 😍😍 7y
TheGamingBookwyrm Just started reading this the other day! It's so intriguing! 7y
Kerioddie Love this book. The ending made me both sad and angry. 7y
Nkirkwood Read this for English lit AS at secondary school at influential age. Reread now for book club & loved it all over again. Frustrated by differences in tv series. Still need to read another book by atwood 7y
MyBookBath This one is on my July list! 7y
Safsquatch Every woman should read The Handmaid's Tale... heartbreaking and thought provoking 7y
Smiffysays One of the best books I have read. 7y
Marta73 I am a contrarian. I did not like this. I felt very upset and uncomfortable about the woman's situation and do not need that angst and gloom. I agree it was well-written but do not recommend to those who have limited time to read. Choose a happier more pleasant read. I recommend Deanna Raybourn or Margaret George. 7y
RainbowStar This is an excellent book. I have read it many times since my first read in High School English. Every beautiful book written by the awesome Ms. Margaret Atwood has left footprints in my mind and heart. She weaves magic with her writing and invites us to enter into some dark areas of humanity but brings you back to the hope and Love of humanity before her tale is finished. A Canadian treasure!! 7y
Leone The day of the Triffids was my first dystopia as a young teenager. Later, I followed it up with This Perfect Day by Ira Lervin. I was by then hooked on dystopias. Later again as a 20 year old, I read The Handmaids tale. It taught me that in the future there could be a more worrying menace than flesh eating plants or science gone mad. There are humans. This is a gripping, eye-opening, terrifying story that everyone, not just women, everyone should read! I haven't watched the show as I like to keep the characters as I imagine them written by the author, not a director or producer. Sorry, just my bias there. 7y
CarlaCC It was okay but I prefer other books by Margaret Atwood. Try "The Blind Assassin" :) 7y
Ilovereading1 I do want to read this book. I lobed the TV Show. I loved that it got renewed 7y
Gilapfeffer Read this years ago and it's still a favourite of mine today. Most scenes make an indelible impression, even if in a terrifying way! 7y
bloodytears1986 It's next on my TBR list. I'm getting antsy!! 7y
nanancay Is this the book the Handmaiden was based on? If so, it's an amazing choice, can't wait to read it. 6y
abida.etc I thoroughly enjoyed this and the series were awesome!!! 6y
voy I read it so long time ago. 6y
Jack-Cade Outstanding book. Margaret Atwood is a literary gemstone. Probably worthy of a Nobel in Literature someday. 6y
32325324 It is good 6y
ssbates Anyone who hasn't read this since high school should give it another look. Even better the second time round. 6y
rhubarbtart My daughter turned me on to M. Atwood last year. I‘m an English teacher too seriously limited in what I can teach. 6y
vividandromeda I was given this book by my English teacher! We studied it as a class, and each got to keep our own copy. I loved it, and mine has this amazing cover art that implements Scrabble into the title (if you've read the book, you'll see the relevance). A provoking read 6y
FeatherV I wish they had me read this in high school, I finally just read it and it was amazing 6y
YABookShelf Read this in university and loved it. Watched the Hulu series last year, and loved what they did with it. If people are looking for other reads in a similar vein, I‘d recommend Perfected and Tarnished by Kate Jarvik Birch. The last book in the series comes out on April 3rd, 2018, and it‘s called Unraveled. 6y
AnastasiaPoirier Great book! It should be required reading for everyone, especially men. A friend of mine once said this book is the only book to ever make him feel empathy for a fictional character. 6y
EllieRaine This is an unknown user 🤨 6y
Lmcressman I read Orwell‘s 1984 back in 1984 and THT a few years afterward. Just finished re-reading both, together, as a grownup. Fascinating to compare and contrast with each other and with our world today! 6y
alphawoman Read this book. Made me very uneasy. 6y
Historilyn One of my favorite books! 6y
