This book kept me glued to my couch with its complicated & twisty plot.It is set for the most part in the Scottish highlands at a castle & its whiskey distillery, where snow & ice prevailed.Haunting, with glowing ghostly apparitions looming. Holmes & Watson at their most humane best. #SherlockHolmespastiches #Sherlocked

When 15-year-old Mary Russell trips over a man on the ground studying bees, her life is changed forever. Sherlock Holmes is retired doing the occasional odd detective case. After discovering Mary‘s very similar style of observation and deduction, she becomes his apprentice. Mary is a woman now as she narrates this story, solving mysteries together or on her own with his help. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am happy to learn it‘s the first in a ⬇️

Each story/novel stands on its own, but i don't think anything beats reading them in order because the first one shows how Watson and Holmes meet, and the continuity of their relationship changes over time. Bookwomble @JenlovesJT47 The publication order of the stories is not exactly the chronological order of the internal narrative, and different Holmesian scholars have proposed different orders for the adventures. Reading them in publication order is, as @dabbe says, a reasonable approach, as there is a development in the Holmes/Watson relationship, secondary, I think, to the mystery at hand, but nice to follow, nonetheless. 3w

dabbe @Bookwomble @JenlovesJT47 Plus the publications can be confusing because in the USA some dates were different than in the UK. The link I gave you goes (I believe) strictly by publication date, NOT necessarily the chronological order of the stories themselves. 3w
