What an excellent book—a huge shoutout to the power of women over misogyny early last century, mostly set in #Canada but a few important moments in #Boston. The main character was raised to be a midwife. When a male doctor comes to town, he insists the old ways are dangerous and his newfangled ways (including forceps) are safer. There is so much to unpack about this book a short review cannot do it justice. In general, it speaks to the power ⬇️

Texreader of women in the face of a culture that deems men smarter, stronger, saner, safer, etc. And it does it, for the most part, in a beautiful and subtle way. The book is set during World War I and the Spanish flu. The author doesn‘t miss a beat with current events in Canada and Boston at the time. Easily one of the best books I‘ve read this year. #foodandlit @Catsandbooks 7d

A Hanukkah holiday story, publisher employee Abi wants to help her favorite writer meet her deadline but is waylaid by the author‘s grandson. With the author unavailable, Abi and Dov set out to finish the last in the author‘s most famous series. Corny and frustrating dialog of the getting to know you type. But the underlying story is good and Oslo the dog is pretty cute. And the food sounds delish.

Another fun read in the Coffee Loft series. I loved the characters in this book. Knox & Lacey are caring, lovely people. When Knox becomes guardian to his nephew, Matthias, he relocates so Matti doesn‘t have to deal with any more change. Lacey is great with children but thinks she is destined for a life without love.

This is a fake marriage troupe and the first book in The Bride series. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I really felt for Ellie, the female MC and thought the plot worked. 4⭐️

This is book 1 of the Vampire's Choice series. It covers the same events in Cora's Choice but is told from the POV of Dorian Thorne an ancient Vampire who finds his consort after being alone for 300+ years. Loved the world building and getting into this character's mind. Loved the world too. 4.5⭐️

The language in this #PictureBook is fun, and I really like the illustrations. Betty has to stay busy all the time and has to remind herself to focus on one task at a time and finish the task. Sage advice. But, I‘m not sure about the message about starting a business. So-so read for me. #BBRC #LetterB

LibrarianRyan It's interesting to see when celebrities' write kids books. The way they mix ideas. I can not remember if I have read this one or not. 5mo
Librarybelle @LibrarianRyan Yes! It was an interesting correlation between being busy and using that extra busyness to create a business. I‘m not sure how I felt about that angle for a picture book… 5mo

This is for #letterB #BBRC

This is a picture book about 9/11 and a tree that they found at ground zero. They replanted it and then brought it back to ground zero 10 years later. I had no idea about this at all (the tree).

Amazing. This biography on Edith Clarke introduces little ones to the first female electrical engineer. The text is simple, but what I love most about this is the extra content at the end - a fuller biography, timeline, glossary, other noted electrical engineers, bibliography, etc. The watercolor illustrations work very well with the text. One of the best #PictureBook bios I‘ve read so far for #BBRC ! #LetterB

LibrarianRyan I liked this one. 1y
